It makes sense if shield technology got really strong and you would need to fire close to stop interception systems.

18th century naval combat is kino

have you fucking watched Star Wars?

it's been WW2 in space since the word go. ships of the line trading broadsides fits right in

Considering how fast everything is moving in space it's somewhat sensible for the ships to use the same strategies.

>doesn't understand it's been like that since the OT

Reddit, its time to leave.

>he doesn't think space broadsides are kino

Lasrt Exile fights were fucking stupid

Which one did it better?

If Star Wars attempted to show even somewhat realistic space combat then the children watching would become incredibly confused.

There are sci-fi books that describe space combat accurately. They have no place in film though, for very obvious reason - they're even less effective-looking than modern fighter doctrine, where all that matters is whether you can lock-on on your target faster than he can.

>they don't even have real shields or mastery of physics enough for molecular energy transport

Ensign, beam a quantum torpedo onto the Death Star's bridge and use the phasers to carve a big smiley face into its hill!

The shields stop any form of energy just not physical matter, what makes you think the shields wouldn't stop phasers or teleporters?

>what was George Thinking?
it's like those cool old pirate movies

>Ships of the Line
>WW2

American Education

>In the middle of combat
>"PREPARE FOR ATTACK"
>"All batteries fire"
What did they mean by this

Battle droids were not very clever

well, ships of the line were until the 19th century and the naval strategies were somewhat similar, just with longer ranges

its a space opera.

a tale of the future.

it's entertainment. like Shakespeare, George is a DEMIGOD!!

A poet you mean

I saw this movie in theaters and I don't remember any of this shit

>Clone Wars are Ship of the Line tactics
>OT are dreadnought/ww2 era tactics
>Rogue One are classic mediterranean galley tactics

What the fuck Disney, what the fuck.

This seemed like the best thread to ask.

Does anyone have the 'watch it Chrissy' image except it's Darth Vader saying 'watch it Leia' at the start of A New Hope

The same thing as putting in magic and fucking lightsabers.

Disney only made the last one
