As I understand OPM it is some kind of deconstruction/parody of anime cliches
What would someone who doesn't watch a lot of anime get out of it?

I haven't watched it but that tends to happen to parodies.
I like how he spends all this time talking about how deep the show can be and then finishes it off with "or just get high and watch a guy punch crabmen and make their heads explode."

It's definitely one of the funniest anime I've ever watched, so it has that going for it.
Final fight is fucking ridiculous in the best possible way but only works if you really get a sense of how powerful Saitama is (i.e; the rest of the series)
