Chris Chibnall on Beast Below:
The Beast Below is probably one of Steven’s best ever scripts, and the production of it was so not what was in the script. I remember watching that and thinking, ‘Oh,’ because it’s a really beautiful, operatic visual piece of writing. It’s bigger than The End of the World, but actually the way the visuals went, something wasn’t quite right on the production of that. The tone of it is odd as well, the tone of it is not the tone of the script. And tone is something that often goes unrecognised as a key component in things. I think it’s always fascinating. I really vividly remember reading that, because I read The Eleventh Hour and thought that was extraordinary and really hurtles along, and then I thought he did something new in The Beast Below, and I think he probably doesn’t look on it that fondly but I think that actually, if he published that script at whatever it was, first or second draft, it was a really beautiful piece of writing.
>The Beast Below is probably one of Steven’s best ever scripts

Question
What would happen if you cut Captain Jack in half? Would he come back whole or in both halves? Would his halves rejoin or would he grow new ones? Would both halves grow new ones?
I've been thinking about this for a bit and I've realized it's probably the reason he's only ever been shot at or killed without wounds (electrocution, dalek ray etc)
- Somewhat unpolished in its script, leaving a few holes
- Marred by extremely mixed bag direction (e.g. some scenes look brilliant e.g. queen's bedroom, others look what the fuck e.g. Doctor meets the queen by the engines). Magical feeling doesn't always come off as a result.
- Has some genuinely uplifting ideas, moments, and characterisation.
6.9/10.
Adric's boipucci
Have you read the script to judge?
He wouldn't duplicate. I think the general assumption is that his separate parts always reconverge back into one, however long it takes. Remember the original concept was that he's a fixed point in the universe.
Yes
Where? Link please.
It's shit
One time he was blown up and the perpetrators shoved his guts into a body bag. The implication was that he was in separate chunks — even minute bits — yet still began to reform from the mass of flesh after a few hours. Once his form had returned, his skin began to regrow, which he was conscious for.
I'm sure that his entire begin was present during the reformation process, so he might've had to regrow something. Dunno if there are rules, though, like certain big organs and extremities must be retrieved and cannot be regrown.
No
Opinion discarded.
pretty good, kind of dumb ending
...
I kind of liked it, I still don't understand how Amy and the Doctor didn't just get blasted into space after being puked out.
Reminder that Nardole took a big smelly shit in the Tardis toilet
So lads now that the dust has cleared, what's the official /who/ verdict on Smile?
Did Hartnell's reputation start to decline among fans when it became known that he could be a bit of a cunt on set from time to time? Currently watching the Peter Purvis wine and dine on YouTube.
That's the thing though. When he's shot his wounds heal- I've no idea what happens to the bullet casings but that's a different discussion- so surely if he's cut in half and wakes back up his body will heal and recreate his other half?
If he's cut straight down the middle so that there is a left and right half, which half would wake up? If he doesn't have both sides of his brain he won't be able to think properly. When he exploded he probably wasn't able to think until his brain joined back together, but if he's still conscious as his brain still technically works what would happen?
My own brains starting to hurt a bit thinking about it
He took a big smelly shit on the shows quality too
A smelly robot shit
>not liking based Nardole
Enjoyed it when it was on, do not care about it in any way now. Probably will never rewatch it unless I'm doing a whole series rewatch
>implying he didn't just have a massive oil leakage
...
>surely if he's cut in half and wakes back up his body will heal and recreate his other half?
The answer is that the logic changes depending on what sort of injury he's sustained. He will always revert back to his expected humanoid form. If he's shot it will heal the wound. If he's chopped into pieces, they will put themselves back together.
They've been reading Doctor Poo
Why do people think Slitheen two-parter is bad?
Farts.
That's all?
>Needs more Doctor Who
youtu.be
Pretty much...Well there's also some extremely dodgy direction like the space pig scene. But basically it's a decent story that gets looked down on a lot for some cringey style choices.
Have you read the script? It's pure kino. It's Keith Boak who fucked shit up.
The script is good for sure.
Worst S1 episode?
Long Game for me.
Poor execution, it would have been great if all the 'farting fat people lmao' shit got removed.
Boom Town
I really liked Simon Pegg's performance in The Long Game
It's not like I dont like the Long Game, I love every single episode of S1, but if I had to choose...
A story about how major British politicians are actually aliens wearing other peoples' skin would be VNA dark, so I guess RTD decided to make the aliens fat green Barney the Dinosaurs who talked about their farts to make the story seem less grim.
Then again, a dark premise ruined by goofy monsters happens in way too many RTD stories to count.
Yeah, thinking about it it'd be very Torchwood without the gratuitous touches of silliness.
I find Slitheen' design great and unique in a way.
chronological user here,
watching Lets Kill Hitler.
I know it's not overly popular, but I've gotta admit, I really think the tesselecta is cool.
Who /simmchad/ here?
The concept is definitely p cool
He doesn't want to go lads.
I'm sick of the ambiguously benevolent automaton caretaker meme in Who.
They're trying so hard to re-create the Weeping Angels from Blink, but every time it comes across as really cheesy.
Who should be genuinely scary, like Blink, completely ridiculous like the Zorgon Invasion, or a little out of the box, like The Doctor's Wife
Doctor Who is today!!!
Who /excited/ here?
...
Not really excited. We still gotta sit through Thin Ice (SJW wet dream), Knock Knock and Oxygen, before some interesting shit actually happens.
>his last scene
>he regenerates
>it's still Capaldi
>puts on his sonic shades, starts up the TARDIS, "see you at Christmas"
>que theme
Why did RTD write 8 episode for S1?
You hate Doctor Who, right?
>tfw 17009 days until the 100th special
Fun Fact: 17009 days ago Herbert Schmidtz made the highest parachute jump from a tower by leaping from a 1,984 ft TV mast in Tulsa, Oklahoma
Second Fun Fact: I wrote a python program to calculate the days and link me to the history fact website. I am committed to this meme forever
If you don't hate Doctor Who you're not a true fan
Capaldi hinted today that he has a touching scene with Simm in episode 11 and makes a ''rash decision'' which backfires. Not anything more than that.
Why doesn't The Happiness Patrol get more blame for killing the show?
Based countdown user
>a touching scene with Simm
Sounds hot
Source?
>Q: "Where would you go in the TARDIS?"
>PC: "I would go back and see my folks, because they're not here anymore."
Besides people laughing at the Kandyman, how did it kill the show?
Post your address so we can come to your house and punch you in the dick if you stop.

what is it with that particular flavour of autism that makes a person think that having the face of the doctor pop up in the title sequence will ever be cool or taken seriously by the general public ever again
like its literally one of the best dead giveaways of autism i have ever seen what is up with that it has a one hundred percent matchup rate i mean anyone that has a thing for custom doctor who intro sequences has to be fuckin autistic anyway right
this comment bought to you by ranch computing
Remembrance gets people excited about the show again, and when they tune in to see the next serial, they see an episode that confirms everything bad ever said about the show.
Imagine how Sup Forums would react if "The Happiness Patrol" came out today, and was about Trump instead of Thatcher.
Good ending: a cyber man throws the masters off a cliff
Bad ending: the cybermen are just generic mooks that don't really do anything and are just there for fan service
True ending: missy teaches the cybermen how to dab
Why did every British writer in the late 80s/early 90s have such a hateboner for Thatcher?
She's a conservative who was in power for a long time. That's literally it.
Im from Australia and as a kid I thought she must have been some kind of evil dictator/hitler like figure based on what I heard on tv.
She treated the lowerclass like shit, closed all the Welsh mines making the Welsh poor and hate a hate orgasm for the Irish.
If I recall correctly, it was supposed to be 7. Boom Town was a quick fill in for an aborted script where they go to Pompeii. The premise got reused for series 4, of course.
The writing had been on the wall for much longer than that. JNT had wanted to leave for years by that point. The show had been in decline since Season 21 and the 1985 hiatus basically sealed the show's fate.
Nice b8
Best ending: Missy sides with the doctor against simm, and shoots simm triggering his regeneration into her
...
le ebil tories
She tried to pass a Putin-level anti gay law, forbidding anyone in education or media from "promoting it as normal".
This happened to him a lot for some reason; Tooth and Claw also fell into his lap at the last minute
>Not being specific about Nardole's name
>a creature of mystery
>mfw I just realized Nardole is an anagram of Doctor
Because it didn't. Simple as that. THP started with numbers below Remembrance, but they didn't fall during the course of the story, they climbed. The next story, Silver Nemesis, had more viewers for its first episode than Remembrance.
Probably because most people didn't judge the episodes by projecting right-wing beliefs from 30 years into the future onto it and triggering themselves. It's not that everyone in England wanted a gay rights parable; most people in England didn't even get that it was a gay rights parable.
And meanwhile, the message from S5, S8, S9, and, most importantly, S23 seems pretty clear: people like it when the programme is telling a very different story with a very different style from month to month. So, it's not surprising that JNT greenlit four very different stories.
No but it is an anagram of Nae Lord.
>I'm the last of the Nae Lords
It's also an anagram of Leandro, that lion guy from the Ashildr episode.
>a touching scene with Simm
>tfw one more sleep until Dollard-kino
Elaborate.
?
we'll have a poll again and we'll all agree it wasn't kino and you'll have to post your dick for real this time user
no getting out of it, you promised
I'm not that user but I voted no in that poll specifically so I could see user's dick. Smile was better than The Pilot, and Thin Ice will be better than both of them. We'll have to wait a little longer.
The Happiness Patrol isn't even bad. Do you have some sort of source that people got upset at it when it aired for its politics? (Especially considering that it was largely a choice of the actress to play Helen as a Thatcher pastiche and you could do the script without it quite easily)
How deep in are you?
I'm upset that Campaign and Blood Heat Director's Cut aren't anywhere on here.
I've written one of the /who/ audios, so I guess that puts me at "Degenerate"
chronological user here,
Starting Girl Who Waited, love this episode.
And I've listened to them, plus watched Doctor Whore, so we're in the same boat.
>/who/ audios
That sounds autistic as fuck. I'm imagining a neckbeard with a $20 headset impersonating Peri with a falsetto.
i KNOW peri i KNOOOOWW
The Missing Tupperware is GOAT though.

I kind of want to read Senor 105 for the novelty of a spinoff of a spinoff of a spinoff of Doctor Who. Are his novels actually any good? Will someone make a spinoff of them?
