that's not strictly true. Turks were nominally Muslim and their elite was thoroughly islamised by the 1070s, but the average folk were by and large shamanists. Only the work of the Persian Sufi Mevlana in the 1200s truly islamised Anatolia and brought the local Turks and Greeks together into what we know as the modern Turkish nation.
