OFFICIAL FA CUP SIXTH ROUND: WIGAN ATHLETIC v SOUTHAMPTON MATCH THREAD

This is probably the only tie of the FA Cup last 8 where the far lower ranked team are the favourites. That's because Wigan Athletic, 2013 winners as Dave Whelan will never let you forget, are flying high in League One with 1976 winners Southampton in the Wigan-esque position of battling relegation from the PL while on a cup run. It won't help Saints fans that they're coming up against a former Portsmouth manager in Paul Cook, the Latics haven't lost a home FA Cup tie since 2011, and while the appointment of former player Mark Hughes is a damn sight better than the disastrous Mauricio Pellegrino, it's not really THAT encouraging.

Kick-off at 1:30pm GMT with coverage on BBC One from 1:15pm.

Wiggle: Walton, Byrne, Dunkley, Burn, Elder, Morsy, Roberts, Power, Jacobs, Massey, Grigg.
>Subs: Jones, Perkins, Bruce, Hunt, Powell, Colclough, Fulton.

Aints: McCarthy, Soares, Stephens, Hoedt, Bertrand, Hojbjerg, Lemina, Tadic, Boufal, Carrillo, Gabbiadini.
>Subs: Forster, Yoshida, Ward-Prowse, Sims, Romeu, Redmond, Long.

Hope Wigan batter 'em desu

>Mark Hughes
the absolute state of relegation team

In other news, Cardiff fans are blaming Derby for postponing their early kick-off on the Rams' injuries: twitter.com/dcfcofficial/status/975288431470358528

You'd think Cardiff weren't 7 points clear of the play-off places based on these tears.

Wigan are 3/1 at home
Excellent value. It's basically two Championship teams playing each other

>Starting Gabbiadini and Carillo together

It's fucking incredible. For the first time since the days of Ronald Koeman, the strikers won't be totally isolated.

Watching for Sam Morsy

Hope hes in form for the world cup

Fair enough desu. Leicester is going ahead and Boro were docked points for trying this sort of nonsense.

It's fine here in Leicestershire, our game will be on later. The snow worse worse a couple of weeks back and our game was on then.

Derby have proper rigged that.

Well, that didn't take long

Hughes can keep >us up, r-right lads?

Fuck off, plastic.

wigan 0 - 4 soton

Groundsmen have put a pattern on the pitch too, seeing as it's not a Premier League game.

I thought Wigan got knocked out last round

this shit is extremely distracting for the TV audience, they really shouldn't bother outside of friendlies

what the fuck is going on in the stands

>forgetting Delph getting red carded
>forgetting Kyle Walker's inability to control a ball
>forgetting Aguero being set on by Wiganers

>TV audience

Wankers.

That's right. I was thinking of Wigan-with-money

think hughes might do alright for you guys desu

we are all that matters

>the absolute state of this graphic
Football has well and truly gone.

Some weird pattern, I dunno.
Hopefully it looks better when people are using them.

hope wigan get pumped solely on the basis of this

Reminder that this will be a league game next season

WILL ON GRIGGS FIRE

no fun allowed footy is for men innit

lmaoing @ ur life eel eater

>I Was There: 18/03/2018

They unironically flog these for £10

>american doesn't understand why those scarves are an embarrassment

what happened to /epl/ lads

>fire your manager
>Silva is still available
>hire Hughes, who was doing just as badly at Stoke
For what purpose?

Les Reed is retarded.

But truthfully, anyone was going to be than Pellegrino.

Silva is probably looking for a more long-term job and is unlikely to want another potential relegation on his CV

The only real question is why Pellegrino wasn't sacked back in December when a long-term replacement could have been found/made some January signings

>Soton in black and turquoise

Ugh

>people still going on about beating city
>all they needed was an understrength city side, a man advantage, a rare defensive error from city and a dollop of luck

Yes truly a fairytale just goes to show anyone can beat anyone in the fa cup :^)

>still crying
They were fucking shit.

State of the pitch

>I hate underdogs, lower league shitters should know their place

Attached: download.jpg (242x209, 11K)

>4 weeks later
>still literally seething with rage

They had 11 v 10 for half the match ffs, why do people pretend that the fa cup is some sort of leveller when the "upsets" either rely on atrocious refereeing or the stronger team benching half their top players or both?

Did delph deserve red just because he plays for city?

would you say wigan is more known for pies or for cheap sportswear?

Who are you supporting, Wigan as the underdogs, or the Saints as a more realistic chance of knocking Spurs/United/Chelsea out

Rugby League.

Wigan. Fuck Southampton, they'll get everything they deserve for hiring Hughes as manager.

>saints
>any chance of knocking a good team out

Attached: 1520191896857.gif (300x300, 34K)

Man City looked fucking hopeless at the back when they had 11 men, let alone when Delph got red carded.

Cunts like you need to take up another hobby.

>QPR fan still seething over half a decade later

What's so bad about Hughs, it's got to be better than them getting fucked over by Dirty Hary twice

Any /spurs/ man in?

I dont support city you utter mong, simply pointing out that a 1-0 win with a man advantage at home against a weakened city side is not some sort of feat

You want a feat try wigan beating city in the final a few years ago

Just another shit manager who somehow keeps getting hired by PL clubs despite repeated failure.

>beating the greatest premier league side in history isn’t any sort of feat

Fucking state of this board these days

>cigarillo

Truly hopeless and yet won the league by december Lmao

MIFFED

Yep, who are you hoping for in the semi?

>You want a feat try wigan beating city in the final a few years ago
Didn't they win that against 10 men as well

>Greatest PL side In history

United won the treble. Man City didn't.

>seething customer show

Hampton

They're still in the CL, which is the only thing they have left to focus on

go have a snooze grandad we're not talking about amateur-era football here

*posts a picture of Salah and says blocks your path*

the premier league is gash this year

Aye, Zabaleta got sent off

I still have no idea how Rooney managed to change the shape of modern football forever

i, for one, only acknowledge football that occurred during the new wembley era

prior to 2008, you might as well have been talking about a different sport

Use your left, you dopey cunt

southampton are fucking toilet, jesus christ

ragdolled by non-leaguers

League 1 isn't it, but I'm starting to think that the saints are the underdogs here

>new wembley era

Attached: rodgers smug.jpg (600x325, 31K)

Really good hold up play from Grigg there. Southampton are dogshit

>two meffs with those Will Grigg scarfs

Fucking hell

These teams will be in the same league next season desu

You say that but they could well be in the same division as each other next season.

>Not liking the short shorts they used to wear back in the 80s
>>/lgbt/

I for one will be quite sad to see Southampton relegated. I think they’re better than that

Lads what ever happened to Clyne? Haven't heard about him in yonks

Lads, I reckon these 2 teams could be playing each other in the league next season.

ded

They're a much better side on paper than their results say. Austin getting injured has really fucked them.

they just need to beat West Ham to be clear again, and I would love to see them go down instead

still injured

hope he get some game time ahead of the youngsters he definitely good enough for the england squad this summer

He won nothing and is now injured

I want Mark Hughes to fail desu

that was fucking awful defending, should have escaped to the left where there was space

Hoping for west brom, west ham and either palace or stoke to drop personally

sick to death the commentator and keown sucking wigan off

southampton look sunderlandesque today

Has Gabbiadini got kidney failure?

Don’t think you need to hope about West Brom tbf

>soton players in charge of wanting to receive a pass

looks like me in PE

Attached: Untitled.jpg (573x576, 164K)

West Ham will be the next Sunderland

I wouldn't mind Palace staying up. I just want to see the Woy happy.

Desperately hope so

The pictures in this game is really comfy. It’s like watching a bunch of lads down the park, you almost forget they’re millionaire sportsmen

>Wigan
>millionaires
lmao

lemina is pogba if he cost a little bit less
