What are your thoughts on the casting for The Dark Tower?

What are your thoughts on the casting for The Dark Tower?

From what I've heard, Idra's demeanor and personality perfectly fits the character, and I loved him in Luther so I think it's going to be great.

The kid looks like a young Moot.

Idris Elba is way too buff. Roland should look like a fucking scarecrow. Like a mix of Clint eastwood and David Thewlis and long hair..
but w/e the movie is gonna be trash anyway

Idris Elba will be a fine Roland, but I hate whoever the fuck they picked for Jake. Maybe when I see him in action. He looks way too old and just not at all what I pictured.

>Like a mix of Clint eastwood and David Thewlis
why not denzel washington?

>but w/e the movie is gonna be trash anyway
at least the poster is kino

Yea, why not Scarlett Johansson

I'd suck his dark tower if you know what i'm saying

No Eddie no buy. He's the best character in the series I could take or leave Susannah since shes damn near irrelevant and Mordred went nowhere (like every single fucking plotline in this series)

...

Should've cast Andrew Lincoln. I don't get the Idris Elba meme.

I'm looking forward to the porn parody.

his face is to nice

That's a fucking smartphone r-right guys?

>I don't get the Idris Elba meme.
Do you genuinely not understand why people are claiming they like him so much?

Really? Come the fuck on man.

I always thought they were kn the desert in book 1

>take Dark Tower
>give it the tone, look, and plot of a YA novel

What the fuck were they thinking?

>not a typical adaptation, but more of a new take on the series

why even fucking bother then

Are trolling? What about Beasts of No Nations, Prometheus, and Pacific Rim should make me go "yup fuck it put him in everything"?

Apparently it takes place after the series is over and this is kind of an alternate reality Roland. I read there are hints in the movie that the story in the booms already took place before the movie.

The movie in general is giving me a very Ghostbusters 2016 vibe of fucking up an established series with both demographic-widening and just straight up baffling decisions. Roland's going to be shooting at mostly generic CGI scrubs, possibly for dat PG-13 rating: retarded but not surprising. Nigga Roland fighting some New York war: what the fuck.

youtube.com/watch?v=vZfiB4L7_vg

It's been pretty much confirmed since the EW cover story.
This Roland still has the Horn and everything.

Because if you invest $200Million in a movie it needs to have an already established brand

The bulk of the first book occurs in an unnamed desert, yes.

>The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed

Such a good line, King's self-insert brags about it in a later book.

But that would be too kinoboring for plebs. And a lot of the second book does take place in NYC.

It's because he's black you dipshit. White people love to signal how non-racist they are on places like reddit by giving undue praise to non-whites.

Goddamn this looks absolutely horrible.

I knew it would never be GOOD but this doesn't even look remotely close to the first book. Or any of the books.

I remember trying to read The Dark Tower series when I was 10 and not understanding any of it.

I remember reading up to a part where a guy ends up on an ocean beach, and another part where a black woman in a wheelchair is described, and I think she was a drug addict, and she was on an elevator at some point. And maybe something about a portal. But I understood none of the details. I didn't even know which character was which.

Was I retarded?

So, this movie is supposed to take place after the books, but isn't Roland reliving the same exact events over and over with absolutely no memory of having lived them? So isn't it literally just an adaptation of the books?

Ten is a bit young to be reading the series, yeah. I'd say give it another try, at least the first one or two since they're relatively short.

A bunch of nerds like it so I might as well give it another shot.

The third book, Wasteland, is pretty great too. Wizard and Glass is ok. After that, eh. It gets a little too meta for me.

The story as a whole isn't a masterpiece or anything by any stretch, but the first 3-5 books are pretty enjoyable. The last two kinda suck.

Supposedly he has the horn of eld now, so this time it is different

>complete cycle
>tower punishes you by deleting your save and turning you into a nigger

lmao

This really. Let us turn to the poem, inspiration for the books, for clarification:

bartleby.com/246/654.html

>There they stood, ranged along the hill-sides, met
>To view the last of me, a living frame
>For one more picture! in a sheet of flame
>I saw them and I knew them all. And yet
>Dauntless the slug-horn to my lips I set,
>And blew “Childe Roland to the Dark Tower came.”

Bullshit complete sjw libby bait bullshit

...

I don't know user, maybe the radically different characters he pulls off in each

It's the Mohaine Desert, pleb

Ill be honest, thats a really fucking cool poster

Took you way too long to google that

0/10

Jake is supposed to be a blonde-haired shota what the fuck is this REEEEEEEEE

>Idra's demeanor and personality perfectly fits the character

what is acting you fucking dumbfuck. That doesn't means you need to niggerswap him.

Why wasn't this just a HBO miniseries or something? They fucked it up, and now they won't be able to try again (if they ever do) for another 5-10 years, or else nor miles will get confused. Maybe Eastwood's son will have aged into it by then, at least.

At least Idris acts and talks like a white man. That's all that matters.

He's an Honorary White Person, deal with it.

It's long ago since I read one of the Dark Tower Novels, but wasn't there a huge story arc were blacks was hated by everybody so Roland could pass everywhere just because he was not black?

No, that sounds like Sup Forums brainwashing tbqh

There was a black Gunslinger, who only pops up in the Peter Straub/Stephen King joint novel Black House (coincidental naming)

not fat enough

>Sony

...

He's a nigger.

Hey Steven

>He didn't cancel apocalypse

just wait until you see the trailer and those STARGATE stargates they use for dimension-hopping. you'll stop fretting about muh blackwashing and muh cultural marxism then. this flick has much bigger problems.

Sony's paying the price for their "progressive" casting decisions, 719 million dollar loss so far, black-staining roland is going to cost them too, guaranteed

nope but susannah (the black schizophrenic wheelchair bitch who gets raped by a demon) constantly gives roland shit for being white and calls him things like peckerwood, honkey etc.

there are dozens of other black actors. why don't those get shoved down our throats as hard as elba is?

>yahoo!
holy shit that still exists

I was only referring to people's reaction to him starring in TDK. I don't know why hollywood is in love with him in particular.

I like Elba too but its gonna suck

based stuart gordon

I was sure rolland was white.
Stereotypical cowboy pretty much.

>TDK
TDT*

Niggerlover.

They made a woman ceo and almost went bankrupt

It really doesn't matter outside the Detta/Odetta storyline (but it's an important storyline, so... it does matter?), Roland is a fantasy-land post-apocalyptic returned to medival/western civilisation but with magic and demons and shit dude.

I just hope they make D/O a white supremacist.

like, not love

learn to read, Klettus

He's also a descendant of that world's equivalent to King Arthur. Plus black people were so freakishly rare in Roland's world that they were considered borderline mythical even when Gilead existed.

But then I think King himself fucked with that concept later on, so whatever.

King is not the most consistent of writers. Flagg went from a mulato who could pass for whote or black to a vampire-pale guy over the years.

Dropped harder than the casting director as a baby

ENDLESS

>date pushed again and again
>that casting
>'majority of the filming is in new york city'
>that weird list of characters cast
>no trailer despite it being in theaters before IT
>trying to make the main storyline a clear black and white protagonist antagonist story between Roland and Walter

it's going to be garbage, but eh.. I've already seen all I look for in an initial Dark Tower movie in Logan this year

now that's what I call a dark tower

The actual trailer is supposed to be releasing tomorrow. No clue if it'll be brand new or the same thing as the leak with finished special effects.

TRASH

>I just hope they make D/O a white supremacist.
they completely scrapped susannah's character, because 'it's a sequel lel' and wheelchairs hard yo

No Hat, No Care.

how much you wanna bet Idris will still have all his fingers for the movie?

>Matthew Mcconaughey casted as Randell
>the guy who has been an actual cowboy, a gay cowboy stripper and a lawyer cowboy not casted as Roland "blue eyes" deschain

what were they thinking with this casting decision?

Roland and Jake aren't even in NYC in book 1. Man fuck this shit movie.

>not a typical adaptation, but more of a new take on the series
its easier to write a new take an to make a good adaptation since you can make up new stuff instead of being creative

>. I've already seen all I look for in an initial Dark Tower movie in Logan this year
Autism speaks

My Jimmies will be rightly rustled if that happens. And wheelchair bitch bether be calling him nigger, porch monkey, coon, etc

>I just hope they make D/O a white supremacist.
is the evil white boogieman not a completely boring and tired concept to you?

a vehemently anti-white black supremacist would have been pretty interesting.

he doesn't lose his fingers until the end of the first book/beginning of the second

they probably won't do the lobstros though, that would be too awesome for this YA shit

why?

>perfect father child relationship
>willingness to sacrifice the child transforms to willingness to sacrifice for the child
>main character constantly injured and on the cusp of dying
>proper treatment of a wheelchaired character with mental issues
Hugh Jackman is basically Roland who won't use a gun in that movie

Isn't there kind of racial tension dynamic in the book? Casting a black guy means that it can't really be shown in the movie.

they could just make a new racism dynamic about Roland being black :^)

They could just turn Detta into a racist schizo white bitch. Also she'll have her legs because fuck wasting the budget on making her cripple. Also Eddie will be gay. Also no Oy.

i don't care if she has physical legs as long as she's in a wheelchair. if she's walking around then they fucked up.

He looks just as a gunslinger should

Fuck, reading online, it's not a new try from Roland at the Dark Tower like King said, it's a reimagining of the DT series as a whole.

I guess they decided that people don't read non-YA novels anymore and to drop that angle. Shit.

That and splitting IT in 2 parts that are distinct from each other (no adults versions of the kids in the first movie) makes me... no want to see the movies? Okay, that's a lie. I'll watch them when they will be on tv in a few years.

Idra needs to be older.

Never gonna watch a nigger Roland

the real question is, will this tank in China? I hope it does

...

the vest looks too much like bondage gear tbqh with all the buckles

guns look alright though. better be sandalwood grips.

she's not in the movie at all and won't be going forward
see Tirana, Arra and Pimli are main characters for some reason

>a rare instance the main character being white actually plays a role in the story
>make him black anyways

Maybe it will still be good? John Carpenter's Vampires was 98% different from the novel and it was a good movie (the novel is better though).
