what are your recommended movies that are shot in a single location where the characters are trapped or there is some cool gimmick where they have to solve or escape a problem like this? What would you call that genre? I was thinking something like "mystery house" movies but google doesn't come up with anything

Green Room

is that black rainbow?

Saw

Why not just say SAW and get it over with?

I think it's the Cube

The Cube

trapped movies?

Anyway, Treed Murray is a good one. Based on a play, I think.

Saw is one of my favorite movies, but it drifted into just straight up torture porn after the first one. but yeah movies like Saw but they don't have to be horror.
thanks I'll check these out

yup

Circle

The Movie Cube

The Divide

This is actually great. Wasn't expecting it at all.

The Hole is average, at best.
127 Hours isn't that good, except for weird face's acting.
Panic Room is good. Fuck you it is!
Devil is good.
Daylight is okay. It's been too long since I saw it to give a proper opinion of it, I guess.

They're usually just listed as psychological thrillers/horror.
Buried, 10 Cloverfield Lane.

Treep Murray is great. Speaking of low-budget canadian movies with Doc McKay, Nothing is a very different kind of trapped movie. Worth a watch.

If you include the "don't want to escape because they have a job to do" sub-sub-genre:

Die Hard (and all it's clones)
Airport (and it's sequels, parodies, clones, etc.)
Passenger 57 (Die Hard+Airport+Wesley Snipes with his eyes open)

10 Cloverfield Lane would be way better without it being connected to the other Cloverfield. Kinda spoils the fact that there is shit going outside the bunker.

Assault on precinct 13 is pretty good.

12 angry men, not even being that guy, genuinely one of my fav films.

Yup. Would have been better if they did like Split and only reaveal it's connection in the movie itself, not the title.

I still think it would have been a better War of the World tie-in movie than a Cloverfield one. What the fuck was that alien shit? How does it relate to the movie (or even the manga)?

>the

>127 Hours ins't that good

From the point that he starts amputating to the end of the movie is enough to save it.

youtube.com/watch?v=fppKCutIYrM

alright cunts

Forgot about that one. Even the remake was decent.

There's a few sci-fi space movies about trapped people (on a ship, or even a planet).

Enemy Mine
Pandorum
that potato poo eating matt damon mars movie
Moon (not sure if that one counts, it's more about isolation)

I agree, but it's good despite the filmmaking, not because of it. The camera work and the way it's cut is annoying as hell. Franco and the subject matter saves it.

technically all outerspace sci-fi fits in this category then. Alien, space odyssey, Event Horizon, etc.

...

All the tread's recs are good, but most don't fit the mystery/puzzle solving angle OP wants.

(take that link with a shaker of salt, not just a pinch)

reppn my absolutely (but somewhat nostalgic) terrible australian movies

Fermat's Room gets recommended often, but I thought it was pretty awful.

The Prisoner (tv/mini series)

The original, of course.

Goddamn the cube movies are so good. Even the third one with the wacky villain.

A movie like an escape game? Fun.

I wonder if Agatha Christie wrote something like that (aside from 10 Little Niggers, but that one is more of a trapped with a slasher book, less about solving puzzles). If she did, it was adapted into a tv episode and/or movie.

A lot of people shit on Zero because it ruins the mystery but that's basically the point of the movie, you go into the movie knowing what to expect and I think the explanation for it is satisfying enough, it has a lot of interesting ideas like the "do you believe in god" scene, even then they still leave some mystery to the cube.

The villain in Zero is god tier though. Even if you dislike the fact they ruin the mystery the villain makes the movie worth your time for sure. Great underrated villain.

Exam

thanks user, this helps our a lot actually. I would describe what I was looking for as "World Limited to Plot" and/or "You Wake Up In Room"

>that papercut scene

I saw this movie when I was a kid, forgot about it and it's been on the back of my mind for fucking YEARS. Holy shit, I'm watching this right now.

French call that genre/mechanism "huit clos".

This movie is hella good when it comes to it

It's called a "huis clos".

senscritique.com/top/resultats/Les_meilleurs_films_de_huis_clos/335870

...

...

Not exactly. OP wanted movies about trying to escape by solving puzzles and shit. It's close though, but what he asked for would be a sub-genre of huit clos.

...

Well, all of those have an escape/enigma element. Maybe not puzzles like Cube so to speak but close enough. Especially ROOM or Snowpiercer. Moon and The Others is more on the mystery side.

Anyone seen Breathless? I haven't yet. Kids break into a blind guys house to rob him. Turns out he isn't the helpless derp they though. Sounds good. Hush kinda sounds like this too, but haven't seen it. Green Room has some of this.

I have and it was solid

Worth one watch per lifetime.

if you like cube you'll probably like circle

pretty sure that movie is called "Dont breathe"

Room is probably my favourite
But Cube is a guilty pleasure

>he's too new to have been here when there were daily threads about what a cunt Jane Levvy's character is in Don't Breathe
wew lad
just gonna go out there and admit to being a newfag?

lulz

Try again without the memes and guess what? you've said nothing.

>lulz
give it up newfag

it's called "huis-clos" in french, if that's of any help

If you liked Saw OP watch The Collector. Its entirely set in a house where not-Jigsaw breaks in and sets up deadly boobytraps to fuck with a family. Pretty much a must watch for what youre asking for, id highly recommend it.

>127 hours isn't that good
>devil is great
Typical Sup Forums opinion right there

give what up? what was your point? you're point was me? I'm flattered. only newfags are concerned with newfags.

muh cement

Sequel is even more over the top and ridiculous if you enjoy this OP. (The collection) takes place in the bad guys warehouse full of traps and mutilated people. Don't want to spoil too much but it connects to the first obviously and fits what you're looking for perfectly of people trapped trying to escape through various means and rooms.

You have forgotten to mention main attraction. Main character is played by Sup Forums favorite Mosquito-Man.

I'll list my current millennium favorites -

10 Cloverfield Lane
Panic Room
Don't Breathe
Green Room

I really like this self contained setting genre; similar stuff - Das Boot, Frozen, Speed, Phone Booth, Flight Plan (not so good), The Mist, The Shining, Dog Day Afternoon.

I forgot to add Split.
It's pretty good, just watch Unbreakable before.

>frozen
The ski lift movie? I thought me and my buddy were literally the only people alive who saw that. Funny friggin stuff. Back when the Disney movie came out I'd always talk about that movie and confuse people

Yeah it's not a "good" movies by any stretch and the plausibility of the event are questionable at best, but it's sort of a guilty pleasure of mine.

youtube.com/watch?v=4W895Uzz9wI&t=652s

Brake with Stephen Dorff is surprisingly good.

Hey I have fond memories of watching it. The drop scene especially. Dude doesn't even try to break his fall at all. Me and my buddy laughed so much. We said wed survive by zipping our coats together and hug it out body heat style for three days. Eating our OWN semen if it came to it

Try Green Inferno for a similar stupid teenager/young adult exploitation movie. Bring pot and friends for maximum enjoyment

The first is one of my favourite movies ever, the third is a great follow up and captures that paranoid feeling of the first but the second one is just annoying. i did like the endless brutal murders of that fat retarded guy but the rest was pretty sketchy

After watching Cube I got a huge hard on for those type of films. Small location, few characters and a bit of a mystery. There are lots out there, but I may have seen them all now. Most are pretty garbage desu.

There's a no budget internet series called "the vault. I thought was pretty cool.
youtube.com/user/VaultShow

Try these

Anime-tier "battle of wits" but this has a special place in my heart

This.

Thanks, but I have seen them all. Some great stuff. I just got desperate looking for more and have delved deep into obscure horror films, some have great premises, but ultimately they're pretty bad.

REC not quite a single location but mostly in one area of an apartment building

Exam.
imdb.com/title/tt1258197/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_48

I love movies like this.

Cube Zero had the worst death scene I've ever seen. Shits all over Saw.

youtube.com/watch?v=0nHAZu97ftI

submarine horror from the director of all the Riddick films

also stuck-on-a-boat-or-underwater flicks such as
>Ghost Ship
>Deep Blue Sea
>Deep Rising
>Sphere
>Leviathan

film trivia, pic related was used in the recording of this clip

Watched this based on the recommendation of one of these threads and it is fucking garbage. Embarrassingly bad, one of the dumbest "twists", not the mention the retarded one-foot-in-the-door moment.

There's this, then there's ridiculous shit like that string trap or giganigger soldier, Cube Zero is really strange

...

>deep blue sea
>ghost ship
>sphere
Monica!

Shit movie

people play a game where they torture the shit out of eachother and the last one standing gets a bunch of money.

Japanese torture porn with the usual gore and rape. There's also a Red Room 2 which I remember being a bit crazier than the first.

You should watch pressure then.

+1

Cube was such a piece of shit. Anyone who uses idiot savant as a plot point should be shot.
>DUDE PRIMES LMAO
>DUDE NIGGERS RAPE LMAO
>DUDE PLOT TWIST LMAO

>DUDE NIGGERS RAPE LMAO

What did he mean by this?

This one was surprisingly good, it's also very underrated.

Naw. That's more like a raid/die hard/dredd style tower progression movie. Except, you know, horizontal.

Is that supposed to be acid ?
