>...Forward 12 years to 1973 and the two sides locked horns again with England playing two friendlies against Italy in 1973 – one in Turin and one at Wembley – losing both games 0-2 and 0-1 respectively. The former was Italy’s first victory over England having played eight previous friendlies prior to this one. In the latter, a certain Fabio Capello scored the only goal of the game.
Under Don Revie, England beat Italy 3-2 in May 1976 in Yankee Stadium in New York as part of the US Bicentennial celebration tournament. But the serious stuff started the following November as the two teams were drawn in the same 1978 World Cup qualifying group along with Finland and Luxembourg.
>England traveled to the Olympic Stadium in Rome in November 1976 knowing that only the winners of the group would qualify for Argentina and that this would likely make it a straight fight out between themselves and the Italians. The game finished in a 2-0 win for Italy leaving England knowing that, at the very least, they would likely have to reverse that result when Italy came to Wembley in November the following year.
>And so we come to England’s only victory over Italy in their entire history in a seriously competitive match. The positives were a good performance with the old firm of Keegan and Brooking scoring one each in a reasonably comfortable 2-0 victory. The slight negative is that Italy came into the game assured that, due to a superior goal haul against Finland, as long as they kept the score reasonably low, victory at home against Luxembourg would achieve qualification. Which they did.
>It should be remembered, therefore, that, for all the stick England took in the media for failing to qualify again, ultimately it came down to goal difference against one of the best sides in Europe. But as the results table at the top of this article shows, this match was England’s last triumph of note against the Azzurri.

Hopefully the Russian hooligans batter them then the Russian police come and give them another beat down, it's embarrassing these "people" represent us abroad
Jayden Anderson
He'll play well and then inevitably it will be a Hendo-Ox midfield partnership for the WC

>Bicentennial tournament >let's celebrate America getting independence 200 years ago by playing the sport they hate in a game contested by the country they fought against and, for some reason, Italy >Don REEEEEEvie Everything about this is retarded
Josiah Cox
Considering England bans their top lads from going over and Russian encourages gang members to cause as much mayhem as possible it'll be pretty one sided
Benjamin Ward
England to win and both teams to score 5/1 on Betfair, lads. Easy fucking money, got £100 on, let's fucking do thisssssss.

He was their best player against Argentina

It's literally just 1-11, so a placeholder I guess. Would be unironically the single worst England side ever put out otherwise.
Nathan Jackson

>still memeing 3-5-2 with Walker on the right At least he started Vardy for once.
They were going on about that the other day on the radio, the old Wembley had such a unique look to it than you'd have thought they could've done more in the way of an homage to it in the design.
Hunter Rodriguez
not a bad side tonight vardy needs to be starting every game imo
Henry Evans
Yeah, England should win by at least 2. If they don't then there is no valid excuse unless the VAR (being used tonight) is poorly utilised.
I cant understand why he doesn't get called up. Maybe he is just a cross-babby and cant do anything else
Benjamin Morgan
>Bilic Why though?
Alexander Jackson

Poor ITV, why the fuck does this man get air time
Dominic Russell
I love this song.
Carter Johnson
Yeah, I like Albrighton too, but you can't play a completely different system because of one decent player.
Josiah Gonzalez
Leicester fans will forever seethe at him not being called up then.

Just seen our formation and line up, wtf are we doing ffs. No width at all, Ashley old doesn't have the stamina to overlap for long and trippier is fucking garbage, no pride.
