American Gods

Whats my opinion of it Sup Forums?

you should sacrifice yourself for them

for whom would you do it?

vulcan my nibba

Pretty cool and it appears to be sticking to the original story, which is rare in Hollywood nowadays.

Though couldn't you have found an on-topic pic to start the thread off? Now the thread will peter out, as people scroll past it, thinking it's about Deadwood.

I want to see lucys boobs

the pic is on topic, that actor is in the new series

Literally just finished the first episode, glad you asked.

Pros:
>Based McShane
>Based Jonathan Tucker
>Some fairly neat visual effects as seen with the reverse birth scene, which gave me deja vu to opening the book to that page when I was a youngster
>Cool hallucinatory vibe in Shadow's dream sequences
>Gaiman seems to have some degree of creative control and refused to be cucked by the showrunners for at least one scene (he nixed Shadow agreeing to a blowjob from the friend's wife)

Cons:
>Some pretty corny sounding dialogue, especially from the leprechaun and the hacker Sup Forums kid
>Fuller's sensibilities threaten to overwhelm any of the show's stylistic merit with excessive soundless slow-mo bullshit which was fine for the scene-setting and food porn in Hanniba but renders the impact of any other type of scene flaccid, and gave me a general "meh" impression at the end of the pilot
>Despite Gaiman's influence, the show is still being run by guys who thought it would be worth screentime in the final act of the pilot episode to depict Shadow getting a blowjob from his dead friend's wife

I forgot to add in cons, the actor playing Shadow isn't very charismatic and basically every other character he's acted across has stolen the scene from him except internet kid, who was a cringe machine

>Gaiman seems to have some degree of creative control and refused to be cucked by the showrunners for at least one scene (he nixed Shadow agreeing to a blowjob from the friend's wife)

Thank god they didn't do this. It would've seemed stupidly forced. I'm so sick of overly sexualized scenes on "premium" cable networks. Sometimes it just feels stupid. It's a drama. Not a porno.

>that actor is in the new series

No shit, Sherlock but the pic you used is from a past series he was in (Deadwood) and if you're going to start a thread about a new series, you ought to use a pic from the new series.

Also; couldn't they have gotten a hotter Black chick to play Bilquis? She's not bad but there are hotter ones out there.

Gaiman straight up threatened to commit suicide if they did that. Unfortunately it's been well established that Fuller has zero restraint as a showrunner so he'll probably continue trying to add in stupid shit like that. One can only hope Neil has it in him to keep being an absolute madman for however long the show lasts.

I thought she had a good look that made sense for an ancient Pagan goddess who naturally wouldn't match up with modern beauty standards but still exhibited timeless signs of fertility, until I saw her pancake tits :/

The first scene with Bilquis sucking that ugly dude into her pussy went on a little too long. I was tempted to fast forward through it.

Not to mention, the actress isn't even that hot. So when the guy kept saying "awww you're so fucking hot", I was just taken out of it.

I haven't read the book, but the whole part with the dead wifes friend was kind of cringe, glad he didn't get the bj

Yeah. I agree some of the acting is inconsistent.

It's either super compelling or cringe. Strange. The Anansi monologue at the start of the 2nd ep is a good example of it falling a little flat. While Gillian Anderson as Lucille Ball was fucking great. I hope it plateaus over time.

The Anansi monologue was fucking great, what are you on about?

I think the internet hacker kid was sort of supposed to be cringe as fuck though

A keyboard warriors idea of what a tough guy is

idk. i recognized the dude was on Mad TV and I just couldn't take him seriously.

It felt more like a middle aged TV writer's idea of what a millennial keyboard warrior's idea of what a tough guy is

It felt spot on for the whole cringy "we are anonymous, we are legion" types that are still around on the internet these days to me, but I can see why you'd think that.

I will admit I liked the aesthetic and visuals of the scene with the faceless droog guys and the frog vape. Too bad Fuller had to go and ruin it with his incoherent, poorly lit slow motion set to wailing strings fetish

im honestly wondering how they are going to pull off the ending.
The second and third acts of the book are going to be the 2nd and 3rd season (this has already been confirmed to be the plan) and most of the second half of the book is them setting up the cons and how he loves 2 man jobs, which is huge when it comes to the final act, but most of this dialog is off handed and not really seemingly important (just more of Wednesdays ranting on car rides/ coffee shops) and mostly done in the opening parts of the second act.

Given that this will mostly likely happen in the beginning episodes of season 2, and the huge twist comes near the end of season 3, I feel a lot of audiences wont really connect the dots like you would when you read the book. Thats going to be almost a year and a half separation. The only real ways to get around this are constant reminders, tipping the end, or those stupid flashbacks at the moment of realization to drive home that its been in your face the whole time.

Either way, I dont see it going as smooth as the book

It was alright, I'm not yank so some of the context was lost on me.

You probably like it, I don't know since I haven't found anywhere to stream it yet.

theirs heaps of shit to cover, mainly the snow town could potentially be an entire season by itself

I haven't read the books but i'm enjoying it
the coming to america segments have been great so far and theres a lot going on so it keeps attention very well
Not much a fan of the guy who plays shadow though, hes just a very boring actor

Yeah I'm thinking the Hinzelman twist is the pay off for the final season. The epilogue episode will be shadow travelling and meeting good Odin.

Neither am I. What context was lost? It was pretty fucking straightforward user.

The snow town was the bit of the book that dragged for me

same first time I read it, now its easily my favorite part

Don't the Gods have to come to America in the minds of their followers? If so why did Anansi kill all of his first wave. I thought the book did it better with the twins.

They weren't the first wave and human sacrifice is clearly a powerful thing for old gods
