Horror is the patrician's genre

Horror is the patrician's genre.
Horror plays on the social commentary in a very smart on not obvious way like some Biopics and dramas do. I think it is about time horror gets more recognition.

People claim that horror is about social commentary, but I reckon it's about having a hand shandy into a bunch of butcher waste. No other genre's audience would allow someone like Lucifer Valentine to prosper.

Horror is nothing but the same cliche's for the past 40 years. What was the last horror movie that got great reviews from the mainstream and not from horror fans?

Horror is the logical sucessor to the attic tragedy. So of course its easily the most patrician genre.

Banshee Chapter is surprisingly good. Pretty creepy.

Bwho-ho-hollocks!

Woah there buddy. How does Lucifer Valentine "prosper"? For starters that's niche content. He doesn't figure at fucking all in the cultural mainstream, or even in the mainstream of horror. The only way you find out about that shit is if you're seeking it out, and even then - "prosper"? His works are panned by almost everyone who has seen them as being tasteless substance void gore porn and edgy shock horror.

SVD has a 2.6/10 aggregate score on imdb.

I mean well its very true. I cant think of one other mode of art that so expertly explores nietzschean aesthetics. Slasher movie villians are the dionysian hero. Theyre the empty slates which act as the audiences' vehicle for catharsis.

He failed so bad he was able to make and sell a trilogy at a profit. Nice failure.

So yes, it's an outlet for degenerates who have seriously considered molesting their dogs at one time or another, thank you.

You'd think someone browsing Sup Forums would be a little less naive and realise that gore and other extreme content appeals to some people. Not even to mention the fact that what he is doing pushes the boundaries of what is acceptable in a movie. That's bound to cause curiosity. Of course he made a profit. Acting like this is somehow indicative of the mainstream horror community's views about his work is ridiculous. It's niche content that you would only find if you sought it out.

Slasher movies are for horny teenagers to get physically close to each other and for adults who are fucked up in the head. Catharsis is pseudoscience you fuckin NEET

90% of SOV cheapo shit in the eighties and early nineties was horror. Horror never gets so base that it can't get even baser. The Human Centipede is a trilogy made for more money than Valentine's. There are 403, 2920 Saw movies, which are all identical in every respect. Eli Roth has a career. I mean, these are not unrepresentative phenomena, you are enthusiastic buyers of garbage, garbage movies.

>what he is doing pushes the boundaries of what is acceptable in a movie

No it doe't, it's just regurgitation porn + red food dye.

>Slasher movies are for horny teenagers to get closer together.

Never denied this. I mean thats a plus point unless youre a lonely person. Slashers are for people who realize the communal aspect of film watching. Dramas or whatever faggy shit you like are for lonely autistic virgins

Never seen this much projection in one comment thank u based user

Horror fans will pay for a phone video of someone wanking into a nosebleed. That is a fact.

shouldnt ))you(( be in bed? its a school night mister. if i have to come up there youre in big trouble Jordan.

Get Out

*tips fedora*

That's not a horror movie, that's one of those pseudo-genre movies dykes, niggers and assorted dross make for a cheap pop.

I recently watched in the Mouth of Madness. I cant believe ebert gave that movie a 2/4. Its a masterpeice.

What movie is this?

check'd
Banshee Chapter

Ok. The Witch. It Follows. The Babadook. If none of those count you should neck yourself then haunt me for being mean.

Thanks. I've see it on the some torrent sites but never thought it was worth the DL. Gonna check it out.

The Witch is a literal masterpiece

It Follows is really solid minus the garbage 3rd act

Babadook fails in terms of horror, pseudo insight into mental illness, and competency.

>It Follows.

Two pseudo-genre movies and one totally generic load of shit designed to be mistaken for a pseudo-genre movie, though it's actually an incredibly vanilla, conflict-free witch story.

>The Witch is a literal masterpiece
This seems to be the consensus, but I'm not so sure. Beginning was great and the music is great throughout the film, but after ACTUAL SPOILER the boy finds the witches den I just did not find it in any way scary anymore.

>Babadook fails in terms of horror
Nope it made me scared of the dark for a few hours.

That's because you're a pussy ass Jew.

No, The Witch is shit, you just thought it was a masterpiece because a boring horror movie is the closest mouthbreathers like you get to an art film.

I can't get into horror because I get spooked very deeply. Life if I watch a good horror movie that really spooks me I will have vivid nightmares about it every single night for 6 straight months. No kino is worth the literal horror that my baby brain goes through from a really hard hitting scary movie.

(you)

The VVitch

Interesting take, it made me want to go and drop the Big Leg on a feminist.

>It Follows

Fuck off.

Yes this entire board sucked its dick when it released online. Stop being new.

And ironically, it's the boilerplate of all time, but mistaken for a dyke movie because there was a woman on the poster and the film seems pro-witch. The guy who made it is a total cipher of a human being, but canny.

>b-but people here liked it so it's great!
kill yourself numale ledditor

Maybe if you paid attention to the movie, you would've liked it. Paranormal Activity is more your style, I think.

I only like horror movies when the main focus isn't the main characters. When it is, you can expect most of the movie being them reacting to the scary thing, and talking about the scary thing.

Best horror movies of the past 5 years? I'm done with finals and have like a week to do shit.

Can't name a single one that was really good.

>The Babadook
Sup Forums memed me into watching this. Just like I got memed into watching Babylon 5.

Autopsy of Jane Doe was pretty good going in without knowing too much.

>Autopsy of Jane Doe was pretty good going in without knowing too much.

The only way to watch horror movies. Even ones that are good get so fucking overhyped it feels like a let-down.

Horror movies would get more recognition if they weren't trying so hard to be edgy.
