Serious question Sup Forums. So recently I've went and watched what you would call the "big" sci-fi released in the past few years; >Gravity >Interstellar >The Martian >Moon
I was wondering if there are any other sci-fi flicks that were hyped or as big budget as these? I'm looking for new recent scifi to indulge.
Started listening the top 100 sci-fi books of all time its top shit, films cant compete. Since sci-fi is expensive as fuck and the its not popular.
Lincoln Walker
>elysium Social justice and trans-human garbage!
>passengers Watchable. Would have been better as a slasher flick, with Chris Pratt's character stalking and terrorizing the passengers in some twisted game.
>life Better than Gravity.
Justin Fisher
The best recent sci-fi is not on the big screen. It's The Expanse Has it flaws (the main guy), but the sci-fi aspects of it are really good
Predestination letterboxd.com/film/predestination/ Lol, this is literally time travel stuff pushed to the limit of nonsense, i hated it because i hate time travel stuff but i some weird way i liked how much stupidly intricate was
Tyler Jenkins
>Under the Skin >Oblivion >Life
These are the only ones I haven't seen. I'll check out Life and Under the Skin.
Haven't seen these either. I'll take em into stride.
It looks like most of the good stuff (i.e., Chappie, Source Code, Moon) I've already seen.
Austin Roberts
>It looks like most of the good stuff (i.e., Chappie, Source Code, Moon) I've already seen.
This is good, i suggest all Neill Blomkamp's movie other than chappie, District 9 and Elysium are great movies. Also, i suggest In time (the one with justin timberlake) it's a pretty good movie, more action than scifi but sends a great message.
Cameron Fisher
I think I should buy you a beer buddy we seem to have real similar tastes. I've saw everything Blomkamp has on offer (District 9 > Chappie > Elysium). I watched In Time at the cinema back when it came out and surprisingly remember much of it, I think it might be a hidden sci-fi gem.
Jason Brooks
Fury Road Dredd
Eli Sanders
Under the Skin is definitely worth it, enjoy
Leo Wright
Thanks, unless something else comes along, I'll be watching it tonight.
Liam Russell
you are literally a pleb. I am not even baiting
Wyatt Mitchell
>Under the Skin you will fall in love with this movie or hate for the rest of your life >Oblivion Tom's kino. Enjoyable >Life Havent seen >Arrival Interstellar wannabe. Enjoyable shit >Jupiter Ascending shit. shit. shit. And this comes from a guy who masturbated once to Mila Kunis >Predestination well, kinda watchable >Passenger Really watchable. Dont put too much hope into it
Chase Morales
Agreed, I actually hated the Martian for forcing so hard the whole quip-fest thing with Damon and him sporting a cast-away beard all of sudden near the end of the film was fucking ridiculous.
Evan Murphy
Martian was mediocre. I really dont get it why it is so praised
Jonathan Thompson
>>elysium >Social justice and trans-human garbage!
Actually, Elysium is a metaphor for South African history. >Whites build a society filled with wonderful things >Brown people proliferate massively >Brown people turn society into a third-world dystopian nightmare as whites NOPE out >White people retreat to their isolated, guarded enclaves >Brown people make it their mission in life to tear down the walls of the enclave and violently pillage the last bastion of whites >The only reason they succeed is they flipped a white and he did the heavy lifting
Isaiah Rogers
It's a series not a movie, but check out The Expanse.

Jacob Davis
>In Time +1 for this. Very unpopular opinion here
Daniel Powell
Contact, a bit older but one of the best sci fi ever
Luke Rogers
...
Jayden Rodriguez
I liked the concept of In time! Any other movies with the same premise?
Alexander Thomas
Pandorum is pretty good.
Lucas Price
Its not. Good general idea. Lousy plot and execution
Camden Martinez
>premise ? limited time or artificial world?
Nathan Nguyen
>Snowpiercer You would enjoy this one for sure
>Divergent (only the first one) If you can stand the teenage drama, is watchable.
>the Robocop remake Is surprisingly above the average. Maybe bacuase i was expecting some low budget trash movie like the original one.
>Edge of tomorrow If you can stand Tom Cruise and time travel shit.
>Transcendence I dont know how to explain this, the movie is really poor explained if you know a little of those thing works in real life, but it also give you a lot to think about.
>Attack the block A pretty nice "goonies with aliens" movie
Ok man, now i'm really out of bullets
Jack Watson
>If you can stand Tom Cruise > stand Tom Cruise >Tom Cruise >stand
Caleb Sanders
Ok now i get it, kek!
Juan Martinez
or Dark Matter, or Killjoys. but Expanse is better
Samuel Russell
I watched Moon recently, it was very bland, lukewarm, dull and predictable, a very overrated flick overall.
As for recommendations - Until the End of The World by Wim Wenders.
Charles Robinson
Also, Godard's Alphaville.
Wyatt Thomas
OP here, Alphaville was weird as fuck but I loved it.
Ian Young
Timeless
Parker Cruz
Dark City desu
Wyatt Richardson
pandorum sunshine solaris (original one) primer
Jacob Russell
>Dark City Never saw this, will watch.
>Pandorum >Solaris I'll have a look at these.
Primer was great but kind of forgettable.
Connor Lewis
Die you fucking ignorant rube.
Jack Adams
>Primer was great but kind of forgettable.
Forgettable as a movie, but it's the only movie ever made who deal with time travel in the proper way.
Camden Stewart
Many good films already mentioned. Somehow no-one has mentioned the really big movies, like Star Wars and Star Trek.
For interesting smaller films not yet mentioned I would say Europa Report and Source Code.
Robert Ward
>t. the plebbest Holy shit, I never disagreed with anyone more than with you.
>Passenger Romance flick, absolute shit. >Arrival Yeah, it really wasn't any good. >Jupiter Acending Twilight in space. >Exmachina Absolute kino. >Chappie Pure shit. >Predestination Nice movie about CTC.
Ryan Turner
Don't worry mate, not everyone could have god taste in movies, you are one of them. There is nothing wrong in it.
Charles Howard
Your post is quite ambiguous. Please tell me if I should be feeling offended right now.
Dylan Evans
>Not liking Chappie
Can you explain this?
Logan Collins
>Star Wars and Star Trek They are so ubiquitous that it doesn't make sense to mention in these threads. Besides, most of them are shit in a sci-fi point of view.
Ryder Brown
Oh they are rather light on the sci-fi side, along with Avatar, but still they are movies with spaceships and aliens.
Lucas Morales
Jupiter ascending was god-fucking-awful. I didn't even last more than halfway through. I'm mad I wasted the bandwidth downloading an HD copy, I can't even imagine how people that paid to see it felt. I don't even understand how a studio sees a rough cut of something like that and says "Yeah, this is good, continue spending millions of dollars polishing this",
Dylan Walker
The sci-fi aspects of it weren't that bad, it's just the rest of the movie that was. Wolverine was dumb "hurr durr your robot is better than mine i'll kill you" and pointed a gun to the poo-in-loo in front of a lot of people in the office, nothings happens. The drug dealers were very retarded, very very retarded, "oh, you know, robots are machines so they must have a remote controller. i know! lets kidnap someone to make a remote control for us!" and the poo-in-loo was another retard that goes back to the kidnappers instead of inventing a story about being coerced to steal a robot or they would kill his grandma or something.
