What are some really good non-cape comics?

What are some really good non-cape comics?

100 Bullets, Y The Last Man, Southern Bastards, DMZ

Does Hellblazer count? If so, check it out. You should also look at Scalped, Criminal, Unknown Soldier, and Preacher.

Manhattan Projects

transformers: More than meets the eye

Bump for interest

The Goon.

Dungeons and Dragons.

The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck

Johnny the Homicidal Maniac

PROPHET
also stray bullets, the Metabarons, orc stain, and the winter men

Do I need to read other Jodo stuff before Metabarons?

Depending on whether you consider this cape, this is one of the best

I don't think so. I read the Metabarons first, then the Incal and, honestly, I liked the Metabarons more

Usagi Yojimbo

Seconding this

I want to Delirium

Concrete

I just finished reading Blacksad and it was pretty good. First book is biggest and best, IMO, but Silent Hell and Amarillo are decent too.

Kingdom Bum is another one, only four issues so it's a quick read but I thought it was aight.

Judge Dredd

That would be CRAZY! user.

...

Why isn't Hellboy considered a cape?

I never knew how much I wanted to hug Megatron

Because he is a paranormal detective, not a hero fighting crime.

I've obviously seen a lot of sandman stuff around Sup Forums, but can someone give me a brief synopsis as to what it's about?

As far as good non-cape comics?

>tokyo ghost
>american vampire
>southern bastards
>locke and key
>black science
>deadly class
>scalped

>can someone give me a brief synopsis as to what it's about?

Probably not without spoiling it.

also he doesn't wear a cape

seconding this

I tried reading it a while back but I can't remember why I quit and might wanna get back into it

sell it to me, Sup Forumsmrades

I always read it as the day to day slice of life of a guy who's basically immortal and trying to fix his shit. But Sup Forums calls it the story of the most over elaborate suicide attempt in the universe

Why would anyone consider Sandman a cape comic?

either of these sounds great

>slice of life
>immortal dude trying to fix his shit/make up for mistakes

I like the sound of this, I'm not really sure how it's all structured, is there like an obligatory/good jumping on point, or should I just start from #1?

I'd say yes, start from #1 and stick with it.

cheers hombre, much appreciated.

Love and Rockets

>Orc Stain
WHEN IS THE NEXT ONE

Blueberry
XIII
Metabarons
Criminal
Arsene Schrauwen

No secret or alternative identity. He's just Hellboy. No costume. He's more of a detective than cape. But he does fight evil and giant monsters... so I'd argue he's kind of a superhero.

If you like Nordic mythology, Valhalla.
Not sure if they're all translated though.

How about a nice Slice of (Alien) Life?
Check out Resident Alien

>God, I started to sound like him
Your fault for not knowing awesomeness tgat is Rodimus.

His trenchcoat is kinda like a cape.

Fell
If only there was more of it.

Death Vigil, its great.

Hellboy's gun always bothered me in that the barrel is the same size as the chamber. I get that it's supposed to look big and menacing, but having even the most basic understanding of how a revolver works kind of ruins the look.

/k/ comments ruin literally anything to do with fictional weapons and your input really isn't needed.

here's a bit more.

I don't even go to /k/, and I've never really been one for fetishizing guns, it just bothers me from an mechanical standpoint; like if he drove a car that had square wheels or something.

>Southern Bastards

First arc? Yeah. After that? Fuck outta here.

Check out Enki Bilal's Nikopol trilogy

Literally anything that's not American.

>pointing out bad art ruins comics

Fuck this meme, and fuck people who defend shitty art. It's pretty much the same thing as pointing out bad anatomy. It's not automatically impossible to enjoy a comic when it's pointed out that the artist doesn't understand simple mechanics, either.

A revolver isn't a fictional fucking weapon, anyway. It's one of the simplest modern firearms.

>Hellboy
>not cape
Ehhhhhhh...
What about Witchblade? The Darkness? TMNT? Are they cape?

it's fantasy, not cape

beyond the first few stories it's mostly a full on fantasy story

that's assuming they are even remotely going for realism, which Guy Davis definitely is not

Seconding this recommendation. The 4e comic is pretty glorious, and because of the edition change, ended before it could outstay its welcome. There isn't enough of it, but better than there being too much.

I love Del Toro's notes on Hellboy's gun, when they were doing the film. They put together his prop gun for the first one based on the biggest revolver they could find and then scaled it up a little more, gust to be sure. And then they put it in Perlman's hand and filmed the movie, and he was so big that on camera it just looked like a normal gun. They went back for the second movie and made the prop so big it could barely be considered a sidearm, and on film it finally looked like a kind of over-sized handgun.

Does the new IDW TMNT comic count?

>bad art
Whoa there, buddy. No need to get ass pained over a style decision.

What issue is this from? BPRD?

The day to day life of Dream.

Also he fights trippy demons and shit sometimes.

Surprised that chew and umbrella academy haven't been mentioned yet

Here's a list of noncapeshit, I would also recommend the Asterix series up to Asterix in Belgium.

>list of American comics
>includes Canadian comics

>it's not bad art, it's style

The mating call of shitty artists everywhere.

more accurately, it's a kind of meta-fairytale

Canada is part of American cultural hegemony, they have no culture of their own

Does the badger count beause that comic rules.

America's hat, I've heard it called.

>Fake ass looking cosplay
>"Jimp"

Genius.

>Bad art
>Hellboy
You take that back mother fucker.

>Hellboy
>non-cape

he literally fights Hitler's brain in a giant ape.
