Essential non-capeshit

I'm feeling a little overexposed to capeshit at the moment, what are the essential non-capeshit recs? Anything not on here that you recommend?

I would love to give you a bunch of suggestions but

a) I am in the middle of story time

b) do you realize how big a task you just asked random people to do for you?

No qualifications, no specifications about what kinds of stories you like.

The list you are asking for is near endless, just saying.

Was just kinda expecting people to namedrop a comic or two they liked, I'm not asking for an essay on every single good non-cape comic

Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron is pretty good
any european comic will fir you I fucking love them.

Beautiful Darkness is a great creepy/cute Franga that I highly recommend. I just picked up a prelude story to Fury Road that I'm really enjoying, mostly because I worship the movie.

what's missing:

Lucifer
The Bus
Daytripper
Habibi
Low
Saga

also "Finder" isn't there either

Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron

Anything by Moebius. Incal for example.

read A Contract With God And Other Tenement Stories by Will Eisner

>Saga

it's non-cape

I quoted it under a different context: The first few volumes are good but the quality falls aprt thereafter.

Asterix
Bone
Jonah Hex
Donald Duck/Uncle Scrooge (particularly Barks and Rosa)

Flash Gordon
Popeye
Prince Valiant

Wilson
Patience

Those are literally two of the worst things clowes has done

But they're non-superhero.

Calvin and Hobbes

That list is basically garbage. Read these instead:

Badger
Nexus
Scout
Mister X
Ronin
Grimjack
American Flagg!
Time2
Conan v1 (Dark Horse)
Planetary
Gunsmith Cats
Fist of the North Star
Black Lagoon
Cherry Poptart (this is porn)
Black Joke
Fearless Dawn
Button Man
The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck
Twisted Toyfare Theater
Red
The Heckler
Chandler - Red Tide
Ginger Fox
Get Jiro!

How is So Long, Silver Screen, worth it if you have any interest in film history?

Print comic stuff I liked:

The Maxx
The Airtight Garage of Jerry Cornelius
Rachel Rising
Bone
Asterix and Tintin, when I was a child to help with my French

Any good cyberpunk stuff out there? Looks like most of the good stuff manga

Nexus and Planetary are capes. Good capes but still capes

Seconding these, as well as Beautiful Darkness, Asterix, The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck and any major Carl Barks collection.
