On July 10th, 1941, over 500 Jews were killed by the non-Jewish Poles in the Polish town of Jedwabne. The majority of the victims were thrown into a barn that was then lit on fire.
This challenges the narrative that Poles were simply WWII victims and they are very sensitive about this. They have spent ample time attempting to sweep this (and other) stories under the rug by blaming the Nazis or the victims. However we know (by testimony from the eyewitness including murderers themselves) that the Nazis were largely passive observers (in this case) to this POLISH crime.
I know there are Polish people here. I am curious what lies you have been told about the Jedwabne massacre.
500 Jews? What a horrific tragedy! These 5,000 victims deserve a full international investigation. We'll get to the truth of these 100,000 deaths and stop antisemitism in Poland. Each Pole should personally apologize for the slaughter of these 50,000,000 innocents, and pledge to make immediate reparations to the nation of Israel for these heinous war crimes.

you are treating war like some legal infraction for fucks sake, during war there is major injustice occurring across the board, people get tortured, killed, persecuted, starved and suffer a plethora of other horrible events, to single out the jews as the only group that had it hard is hypocritical to say the least, poland lost 30% of it's population and was demolished, during that time lashing out at other groups was a behavior observed all over history and across borders, the killed should get a statue and be done with it, since searching restitution is a never ending process that could very well lead to another war ad infinitum
tl;dr gready jews, go home

You forget the part when in 1939 the same Jews in Jedwabne made a warm welcome for the Soviet army invading from the east. During Soviet occupation many local Jews took goverment offices and spred terror, or reported NKVD on Poles for non-communist behaviour. After Germans came Poles took their chance to bring justice, and sent commie traitors to hell where they belong.

>in 1939 the same Jews in Jedwabne made a warm welcome for the Soviet army invading from the east This was exaggerated. The Poles were just projecting their own reaction to the invasion of the Germans onto the Jews in order to rationalize the pogrom.
Of course the Jews preferred being occupied by the Soviets over Germans. Of course they had jobs within the government. But that was about self-preservation, and Poles did it too. Some of the main perpetrators of Jedwabane worked with the Germans and Soviets, depending who was occupying at the time. Jedwabne Poles murdered Jews out of hatred and envy. They used this as an opportunity to take Jewish property.

>The 1941 massacre in Jedwabne in German-occupied Poland was committed by Germans, on their own initiative and under their sole supervision like thousands of similar German crimes in Poland.
Consensus among historians, excluding Polish historians, and investigators, INCLUDING official Polish investigations, is that Jedwabne was committed by the residents. We have records going back to the 1940s where they flat out admit it and claim Germans didn't have much involvement. Jedwabne people didn't start denying it until the early 00s when it became a big story.

WHO "ADMITTED"? You don't even know the "wintesses" in question who were questioned. I know, and they weren't evem eye witnesses, but heard it from their Jewish parents in stories. REAL EYE WITNESSES LIKE youtube.com/watch?v=MhzeRKskw4s WERE IGNORED AND SILENCED.

>This challenges the narrative that Poles were simply WWII victims and they are very sensitive about this
And for a good reason. Jedwanbe massacre is now often used to push the narrative of Poles paritcipating in holocaust right up there with Germans, which is nothing more than attempt to water down the historical truth. Yes, there were Poles killing Jews, no one is denying that, (hell, there were even Jews killing Jews, did you know that too?).
Before you get all sanctimonious, don't forget how harsh the occupation here was in comparison to the West. The Germans installed a murderous regime with state-orchestrated mass exterminations, public executions, roundups, general terror and lawlessness, where aiding Jews was severely punished (bullet to the head for your whole family if they found out), and pursuing them encouraged and rewarded. My point is - people did, and WILL kill each other under such circumstances. I'll state this again - some Poles DID kill Jews, that's a fact, but on on entirely incomparable scale. On one hand you have individuals commiting murders (which, mind you, happened on the German territory and under the German law), on the other - mass genocide approved and controlled by the German state. Saying Poland was complicit to the holocaust is just plain offensive.

>Gross is not a historian You don't like what he says, and therefore he is not a historian? Cute. And Gross was not even the first scholar to point out the truth about Jedwabne. This was something pointed out by previous scholars. Gross' main idea about Jedwabne, ie that the massacre was committed by Poles, is *not* in dispute among historians. The idea that the fire was started by the Nazis isn't consistent with any account on record. Anyone at least trying to appear unbiased will at least admit the Jews were taken to the barn and burned by Jedwabne residents, even if they wish to claim they were being directed by Nazis.
When I say "witnesses," I am not talking just about people who saw it happen. I am talking about people who were actually involved in carrying out the massacre itself and were prosecuted for it. A senile old woman in a damage control propaganda video who was allegedly 8 when it happened isn't a credible witness.

He didn't lie at all. His numbers were based on population records at the time, and he didn't believe *all* of them were killed in the barn.

I think that Polish-Jewish relations during ww2 are a little bit more complicated, user: >The Skidel revolt (Polish: Powstanie skidelskie) or Skidal uprising (term used in Soviet historiography) was an anti-state and anti-Polish sabotage action of the Jewish and ethnic Belarusian inhabitants of the Polish town of Skidal (now Skidzyel’, Belarus) at the onset of World War II. It started on the second day of the Soviet invasion of Poland in an attempt to assist the external attack.[1]
>In 1940 the NKVD found clear evidence of the widespread robberies and mass murders committed on the side by scores of intoxicated peasants and criminal opportunists, but the Soviet military court threw out the case as a misrepresentation of the actual class struggle.[2]
>One of the first to be killed in the rebellion was a Polish soldier walking through Skidel alone. The subsequent pogrom of the Polish population in the area included burying alive (see Massacre of Brzostowica Mała), mass killings in the forest near Lerypol on the outskirts of Skidal, and torture murder in Budowla of dozens of Polish nationals. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skidel_revolt

>The massacre of Brzostowica Mała occurred on September 18, 1939 at the onset of World War II in the eastern part of the Second Polish Republic. It was a mass murder of the Polish inhabitants of Brzostowica Mała (Belarusian: Malaya Berestovitsa) committed on the second day of the Soviet invasion of Poland.[1] The massacre was one of a number of similar killings of ethnic Poles in many neighbouring settlements.[2] The perpetrators armed by the Soviets with assault rifles and a machine gun (but also with axes and home-made weapons),[3] were led by the delegalized Communist Party of West Belarus. The fifth column consisted of local Jews and ethnic Belarusians who launched an anti-Polish sabotage action known as the Skidel revolt on the same day in order to assist the external attack.[4] Scores of intoxicated peasants and criminal opportunists have joined the fray.[5] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massacre_of_Brzostowica_Mała

>We wouldn't have invaded you if you hadn't attacked us in 1920.
>The Polish–Soviet War[N 1] (February 1919 – March 1921) was an armed conflict between the Second Polish Republic, the Ukrainian People's Republic, Soviet Russia and Soviet Ukraine over the control of an area equivalent to today's Ukraine and parts of modern-day Belarus.
>As early as late 1919 the leader of Russia's new Bolshevik government, Vladimir Lenin, inspired by the Red Army's civil-war victories over White Russian anti-communist forces and their Western allies, began to see the future of the revolution with greater optimism. The Bolsheviks proclaimed the need for the dictatorship of the proletariat, and agitated for a worldwide Communist community. They had an avowed intent to link the revolution in Russia with an expected revolution in Germany and to assist other Communist movements in Western Europe; Poland was the geographical bridge that the Red Army would have to cross to provide direct physical support in the West.
>The first serious armed conflict of the war took place around 14 February[12][21] – 16 February, near the towns of Manevychi and Biaroza in Belarus.[11][17] By late February the Soviet westward advance had come to a halt. Both Polish and Soviet forces had also been engaging the Ukrainian forces, and active fighting was going on in the territories of the Baltic countries (cf.
