So I've been thinking.
CN's been promoting the hell out of this In Too Deep event, and is finally launching some decent merchandise lines for SU. As you all probably know, SU was recently broken up from 3 seasons into 5, which was announced along with a similar announcement for Uncle Grandpa. Just days later, it was announced that Uncle Grandpa was cancelled.
What I'm getting at is that I think this is a make or break moment for SU, in CN's eyes. With all of that promotion, they're probably looking for better ratings, and they're probably looking for good merchandise sales too. Basically, I think that the upcoming ratings may determine if more seasons get ordered or not, and which when combined with merchandise sales may determine CN's entire startegy regarding SU. Sure it's been getting a lot of online buzz, just look at how many views the Dailymotion uploads of the last two episodes have, but that's not necesarilly indicadive of actual TV ratings.
This could actually be pretty important, so does anyone know when does CN releases its ratings for premier nights?

How, you may ask? Think about it. When Cluster began forming, Steven's gemstone started to act up, and after fainting he established a telepathic link with the Cluster, while Peridot was unaffected. So what if Cluster was made to communicate with, and receive orders from Diamond? It would explain why Steven was able to talk to it.
A friend attributed it to the fact that Rose had a sort of "connection to living things", but like in Steven's case it was a voluntary action, not something to get dragged into. The Cluster attempted to establish contact with someone, and Steven got pulled in because Rose was Pink Diamond, and he inherited her powers and gemstone.

I think producers look more at the online presence that a fandom has, since those people are probably more likely to purchase the merchandise when it comes out.

I could see that really, although SU's had some pretty hard ratings fluctuations. I'd assume they're aiming for something in the 1.5-2 million mark with all the promos.
Oh no, don't get me wrong, I don't want the show to be artificially extended or anything. It seems to me like they have room for another 52 episodes or more though, even past the original 3 seasons, with how many plot points and character arcs that still need to be worked on.

The direction of the cluster episode was great though, the blinking floor of the drill and the hands was especially good
