Future Sight is reliable in Homeworld society because, based on what we've seen so far, Homeworld Gems are predictable as fuck. Every Ruby can be counted on to act like every other Ruby would in the same situation. Every Quartz can be counted on to act like every other Quartz. Every Peridot. Every Pearl. And so on.
If your entire society is based on every Gem acting predictably, and you have an entire caste whose sole purpose is predicting the behavior of Gems and the outcome of events involving them... there is nothing more dangerous than Gems that act different or unpredictably and any who do are SEVERELY punished.
In "The Answer" our Ruby does something unexpected - instead of mindlessly throwing their life away attacking Rose and Pearl, she chooses to save Sapphire and accidentally fuses with them - completely throwing off Sapphire's prediction, and without hesitation Blue Diamond immediately orders Ruby to be shattered. Unpredictability cannot be tolerated because it adds uncertainty to the future.
Now here's where thing's get interesting.
Humans, from a Gem point of view, are the antithesis of their own society. Humans are unexpected, unpredictable, rebellious, ridiculous. Humans aren't designed to conquer worlds - but we did. Humans aren't built to survive serious hardship or injury - but we do. Humans live to break the rules. Humans stand and fight when there's no hope of victory. Humans die to save the ones they love. A Gem can learn everything there is to know about them in a year, and yet after thousand years they can still surprise them.
If you come from a society where acting different and being unpredictable are the greatest of taboos, how do you react to a planet where being unpredictable and rebellious are the norm?
