In what way?

Cartoons are the cancer killing Sup Forums

Sup Forums should be split to have a Cartoon Board and a Comic Board.

So they've got a height based caste system and a short green obnoxious alien. The way that watermelon steven got destroyed might be a direct reference to .gif related. Doesn't really hold a candle to the five anime references an episode they end up doing.

>So they've got a height based caste system
No they don't.

Yeah, god forbid we push one of the fifty Civil War threads off the board.

What we need is a /capeco/ board to banish capeshit forever, especially the movies.

Gems literally more powerful with size, and their leaders are shown to be massive compared to other individual gems.

Size is both social standing and power level to them.

Peals are taller than many gems shown, and has the lowest status.

If that were the case then wouldn't the world just be run by fusions?
Like if being a giant gem means you get more respect, wouldn't being a fusion mean more because same gem fusions are almost literally and canonically just one giant version of the same gem

...

...

>bigger ones are more powerful

And in your mind you think that's plagiarizing Invader Zim? I could point out how Sapphire was a much higher "caste" than Ruby despite them being the same size, but rather than debunk your theory it's more interesting to discuss just how poorly formulated it is in the first place.

...

Here we fucking go again.

ivanhoffman.com/characters.html

The other Irkens were ranked differently despite being the same size as well.

>this plagiarism is okay because of all the other plagiarism they do normally

>Jasper landed face-down
>her gem may have cracked
>when Amethyst cracked, her body turned to spaghetti
>yfw Jasper emerges from the kindergarten like this

>well-written

lol

It's just a shitty tumblr meme that the diamonds are in charge because they're the tallest.

Its not plagiarism. Its called an Expy and its a form of extended reference.

The plot and most of the characters are entirely original, and peridot has had her own extensive character development. Her being a tiny green engineer from a genderless alien empire with tall leaders does not make the story plagerized just because she is

Invader Zim is overrated protololrandumb shit that we have to thank not only for one of the worst fandoms ever but also for the popularity of lolrandumb humor.

Peridot is nowhere near as annoying as that show even if she's inspired by it.

Peridot is much more considerate and understanding than that sociopath zim.

Is it better to be a servant to the rulers of your species or a bottom feeder slave digging holes or whatever?

The acceptability of fusions is a major plot point, possibly started the war in the first place. Diamonds probably aren't hot on the idea of peons being able to band together to be stronger than their leaders.

Future sight makes her an obvious outlier in value. Not arguing that they're plagiarizing though, only that height plays a role in gem society.

Thank you for saying what I didn't feel like taking the time to put into words.

You mean like most of real life?
You know Jasper was under the command of Peridot, right?

tiny green engineer from a genderless alien empire with tall leaders does
U r a faggot.

>Peridot is nowhere near as annoying

>random yelling
>talking in the third person
>constantly praising herself
Yeah, no.

The lolrandom in IZ was largely regulated to GIR, who didn't actually have a very major role in the show at all. It was only the gigantic marketing campaign to sell shit at hot topic that got it the notoriety. Otherwise it was decent dark humor and a show that should have been outright about Dib and Gaz, with Zim supporting.

Jasper was calling the shots when the showed up. 'Shoot the gems with the ship, forget the mission we got Rose, etc.'

>its a homage

> five anime references an episode

Please list a few examples, this sounds like a solid figure you put a lot of time into researching to reach a conclusion.

>it's an "user thinks he's being clever for pointing out superficial similarities" thread

Fight sequences basically directly ripped from Revolutionary Girl Utena, Tiger Millionaire's character was from manga Tiger Mask, Steven has a copy of Sailor Moon, 'Garnet's Universe' is literally an entire DBZ episode with a Usagi Yojimbo reference for good measure. The end of 'The Test' is another direct scene for scene rip of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Lion 3 does the same thing to Cowboy Bebop's Speak like a Child. A handful of Akira references have also been made throughout several episodes.

I'd think of more but you probably get the idea.

There are key differences:
>not main character
>voice is less abrasive
>her behavior is treated accordingly in-universe
>she's actually evolved to a point where she no longer treats others as inferior, doesn't praise herself, and only talks in third person when recording her logs
She also doesn't yell for no reason anymore. The only instances where she yelled were either when she was engaged/scared or had a reason to yell (world ending).

Enigma of the Amigara Fault is another fairly big reference with this entire area.

The show is also referencing movies, vidya and other popular culture all the time.

Makes you wonder how they still have time for original content.

The faces when Steven was contacting the Cluster looked exactly like forest spirits form Princess Mononoke

She's Sugar's version of Invader ZIM if he redeemed himself and loved Earth. She literally wrote a fanfic about that and it's still available online to read. She basically took all the cynicism out of ZIM because her show is all about friendship is magic and how love and beauty conquers all.

Stop arguing with yourself, user.

/cpst/-Capeshit was already suggested and denied

Her edgy fanfic about Dib being crazy is worth a read too.

>Makes you wonder how they still have time for original content.
B-but user! Nothing is original anymore! We should just not even bother trying and make blatant rip-offs because why try to think of something yourself when you can just Frankenstein your way to a popular series?

The Enigma of Amigara Fault references might just get worse

I can't believe Steven Universe is ripping off anime, shitty show, unsubscribed.

>Implying anime didn't rip-off superheroes and American media first.

Literally all of anime is ripped off of donald duck because Tezuka was a disney nerd

>Literally all of anime is ripped off Disney and Fleischer.
Fixed that.

...

Gotta say. As a total softie who loves characters redeeming themselves, I'm fine with her style.

wut anime is dis plz gib sauce

Night Warriors Darkstalkers Revenge.

thx dude papa bless ya

>Invader Zim

She's Gizmo from Teen Titans. Am I the only one who realized this? They are literally the same character. They both even have the same stupid insults.

The key difference being that at least Bruce Timm's originality still far outweighs any "homages" they throw in. Omit all the references in SU and you're left with 30 minutes of content.

Ripping shit off is still ripping shit off no matter who does it, but how people view your work depends on how often you do it.

SU is the equivalent of a teenager in high school who does nothing but spouts quotes as "jokes" because they genuinely can't think of anything themselves.

Except Sugar was a huge ZIM fangirl back in the day. It's more likely that she was inspired by ZIM than Gizmo. Gizmo is a coincidence if anything, much like that anime character who looks like Lapis.

Im pretty sure the tiny technitian is a trope

Peridot, Zim, Gizmo, Ed, etc.

Why the hell did they even need to do two lasers. One laser would have cut through both flying ships and blown them up. It's like using two pairs of scissors to cut through one piece of paper.

>Gizmo from Teen Titans
>a character

Even the 43 year old hairy guy who ate a lot had more character.

>Omit all the references in SU and you're left with 30 minutes of content

Howd you come to that number?

>superheroes
No, more like Disney I guess but I don't see Capeshit influence anywhere

She threw Greg off the fucking roof to check if humans can fly.

She observed an indigenous lifeform that could fly and wondered if this was a constant trait among them.

Jolly cooperation.

THIS JUST IN!!! All fiction is derivitive in one way or another! Every content creator is a hack who owes their entire success to the Epic of Gilgamesh!

why not ask?

>but I don't see Capeshit influence anywhere
Literally half of anime has super powered characters who can leap over tall buildings and fight at the speed of sound with nigh-invulnerability. American comics and cartoons in the 20's onward basically went on to define Japan's anime and manga scene. Shit today is still referencing things we did from the 20's - 50's. We literally cannot get away from it. The only truly creative ones were the pioneers back in the days of discovering the medium.

Japanese superherps are descended from american ones, but the predominant genre, Sentai, is very different.

Compare power rangers to Superman and show the similarities

Japan's better at our capeshit than we are. One Punch Man and My Hero Academia are much better than anything we're doing right now.

ok you convinced me on watching hero academia.

>It's a "thread we've had before and it was equally shit back then" episode

Plus trying to turn the core of earth into something that will please the leaders...

yeah, but Invader zim was total shit.

This shitposting needs to end

Correlation. Not causation

>steven moaning
>It's not even in yet
>it's alright keep going
>I'm going to speed it up to triple penetration

I couldn't have been the only one to pick up on that.
