Obligatory Runs

What capeshit runs do people have to have read to have an opinion on anything?

Just read Morrison. His runs are best runs so why bother with anything else.

None

Asshurt plebian detected.

Protip: Morrison is as good as hus fanboys say he is.

>B-but I need my tastes to be validated!

Also,

Cerebus is dogshit

If you think that someone's opinion only matters if they like the same things as you, then you're retarded and no better than [insert boogeyman here]

Animal Man
Morrison's Bat Epic
Superman All Star
Year 100
Secret Identity
Red Son
Justice
Spiderman Blue
Kingdom Come
The Dark Knight Returns
Watchmen
The Killing Joke
Prophet
Ultimate Spiderman
Claremont and Morrison's Xmen
Waid's Flash

That's off the top of my head.

Shit that is relevant to the issue at hand. E.g. Having read every Batman issue ever helps fuck all when you are discussing Hawkman's origin.

Not liked but read. Taste is something you have to acquire.

No one is saying _any_ type of comic is obligatory.

But suggesting that a capeshit run can be obligatory (for the entire medium) is just silly. It's like saying, "what sugary cereal brands do you need to eat in order to have a respectable opinion on food?"

None.

The best though are objectively these:

Golden Age Captain Marvel, in particular the material by C.C. Beck
Jack Cole's Plastic Man
Lee/Kirby's Fantastic Four
Ditko's Spider-Man
Frank Miller's Daredevil
Grant Morrison's Animal Man
Grant Morrison's All Star Superman
Garth Ennis' Hitman (if that counts as "cape")
Garth Ennis' Punisher (if that counts as "cape")
Warren Ellis' Planetary (if that counts as "cape")

>Cerebus is dogshit
Let's not say stuff we will regret later.

That's true though. If you haven't tried the best things you have no reference point for how objectively bad or good something is. Don't worry plebeian, the patricians will show you the way.

It's actually like saying, "what sugary cereal brands do you need to eat in order to have a respectable opinion on sugary cereals?" But okay, just keep being retarded.

I'm a huge Morrison fan, but I honestly think his JLA run is kind of overrated. Like most Justice League stories it's basically just "beat the bad guys up" and Morrison it at his best when he does something more than that. That's not to say it isn't well written, it definitely is, but it's nowhere hear his best.

>agreeing with me is something you have to aquire
Can't tell if serious.

Stop being so stupid. Good or bad is subjective but writing, panelling, and pace are not.

I endorse that list, I'd replace Miller's DD with his Batman Year One though

It really isn't. Cape comics are the major genre of American comics, they're neither the only genre of American comics, nor is the US the only country that makes comics (in fact it has a smaller comics market than France).

this niiger knows.

add to the list
Simonson Thor
Ditko Strange
Gruenwald Quasar
Starlin Captain Marvel
Starlin Silver Surfer
Moore Swamp Thing

so much wrong

You sound like a lot of fun to talk to.

That has nothing to do with taste, tardo.

I'd combine all of And add We3 cause of that panelling. Shit was ground breaking.

Yes it does. What are you 12? You can't have a bearing on what good writing, panelling and pace are unless you've read the runs that show you.

Like for example you may have thought The Walking Dead on AMC is the greatest show of all time. Then you watch the Sopranos or Mad Men and understand that from an objective stand point those shows are better regardless of personal preference.

Frank Miller's Daredevil
something from core Spider-Man
Batman: Year One
Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow
Miracleman
Watchmen
Moore's Swamp Thing
Kindgom Come
Irredeemable
PAD Hulk
the top of the Waid and Johns Flash runs
Morrison's JLA
Starman
Ostrander Spectre
Gaiman's Sandman
Superman Beyond
Multiversity
Hickman's FF
Hickman's run up to Time Runs Out, Time Runs Out, and Secret Wars
Civil War
The Nail
Johns, Donner, Busiek era Superman
52
Cosmic Marvel

>You can't have a bearing on what good writing, panelling and pace are unless you've read the runs that show you.
Well, clearly that's fucking stupid, because the people that made those runs knew it without their own runs to show them.

It doesn't help that all the shows you named are pleb-art trash.

Not even that guy.

>Not even that guy.
stopped reading there

You stopped reading at the end of the post?

yes

jack staff

Is that not the normal way to go about things?

I think he was making a goof.

newfriend pls

Top fucking kek newfag get out of here with your terrible opinions

You what?

>And add We3 cause of that panelling. Shit was ground breaking.
It literally wasn't. Even Jim Starlin was using similar layouts in the 70s.

...

>tfw been here since 2007
suck my irl dick, it's not my fault the only mechanism you have for representing your opinions on television is by parroting the same thing everybody else likes you definitional pleb

But that's literally not what taste is.
Stop being a retard,

I bet you think French and Euro comics are the best thing ever.

Yes it is you lower class trash. Taste is a patrician standard from an objective base. I know you plebeian's think it means personal preference but it does not in the upper class echelon.

N O T E V E N

Some of it is incredible, but I mostly read American comics.

>implying Sup Forums memes are patrician
It's cute when simple people delude themselves.

>Taste is a patrician standard from an objective base

>implying they're not
In all seriousness though, a good comic is a good comic, regardless of where it's from.

>Look at this kid, he thinks bc he's marginally less stupid than the general public he's a patrician.

Stay pleb fuckboi

>Taste is a patrician standard from an objective base.

I felt like I finally got a handle on Derrida's prose, but now I know that my quest is only beginning.

Teach me, master.

I second this one.

Robinson's Starman
Johns JSA and Hawkman
Camelot 3000
Aquaman by Johns
Flash by Waid and Flash by Manapul
Wonder Woman by Perez
Sandman
Doom Patrol, Animal Man and Batman by Morrison
Etrigan, Kamandi, New Gods and OMAC by Kirby
52
And anything by Simonson

>I deprive myself of stuff because it's not what other people consider good in a desperate attempt to prove to myself that I'm smart.
