I guess I should clarify what I mean by leftist. If the workers have no collective power, then in my view it's not a leftist nation. The USSR was only nominally a socialist country. In fact it was a state capitalist country in which the workers were powerless. The few worker-owned companies that exist in the US do just fine. Because the workers have a greater stake in their companies, they care more about the fate of their companies.
