Nope, Africans get treated like shite in China. There's a lot of them (about 10,000) in Guangzhou but they get constantly harnessed by the police and most of them are forced to work illegally. In China, you can get a job teaching English without even knowing any English, as long as you're white. Even Asians get discriminated against when it comes to teaching English. So I would really recommend against coming to China unless you can deal with the racism and the lack of employment

中 means "central" as in 中国, meaning central kingdom, which is the way Chinese refer to their country. In the ancient times all the way up to the 1800's China was the center of East Asian civilization after all.
汉 specifically refers to the Han ethnic group, that makes up more than 90% of China's population and is the pillar of Chinese civilization. Most of the famous Chinese you have heard of, the characters that Chinese use to write, the language everyone speaks, was all derived from the Han people. The Chinese language is referred to as 汉语 because it is the language group (汉语 can also refer to non-Mandarin dialects spoke by the Han) of the Han ethnicity.
But Han are not the only people in China, so to refer to China as an all-encompassing geographical country with multiple ethnic groups, we call it 中国, the central kingdom, which is less ethnocentric than if they called it 汉国.
So to put it simply 中 refers to the geographical place of China that includes everyone inside it, 汉 refers exclusively to the majority ethnic group that have inhabited and ruled the geographical place of 中国 for millennia.
As for why you can say 中文 and not 中语 and why is it more common to say 汉语 instead of 汉文 (although 汉字 is roughly similar), I can only chalk that up to idiosyncrasies and arbitrary customs.
