Gandahar and time masters are both by the same director, but niether are as good as fantastic planet imo

Can't think of anything quite like Fantastic Planet, but there are some films with some good surreal imagery sorta like it has. The Congress comes to mind. Warning though: the first part of it is in live action. When I first watched it I wasn't sure I had the right movie because it took a while to get to the animated part.

Allegro non Troppo has a little bit of a similar weirdness in some of its segments, and comes from that same era.

>the cat part

Reminder that this will never, ever be translated.

The Beatles Yellow Sumarine is a lot more lighthearted, but they do a pretty good job with having the characters pass by some incomprehensible alien landscapes and creatures.

Don Hertzfeldt's stuff.

no

I heard that too.

I'm a big fan of traditional animation but for whatever reason Fantasia doesn't do it for me. It kind of drags on. I'll look into it, though.

Seems like a weird movie to make a comic out of.

Seen it. This is in the vein of what I'm looking for.

Seen most of his stuff. Bretty good, but only if you want to be depressed and in thought for the rest of the day.

user loves tiva.
Repeat.

tiva was mean

There needs to be a wojack and pepe edit of a draag and om.

All things considered she wasn't that bad an owner. She didn't really abuse the protagonist and was even defensive of him.

Still, that baby shit was traumatizing.

If you haven't read it, you might want to read I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream. That's a bit like Fantastic Planet.

Here, have it in 1080p.

Jan Svankmajer's Alice may interest you if you like stopmotion.

I'm not sure what it is, but The King and the Mockingbird really reminds me of Fantastic Planet. Maybe it's just because they're both french.

Aren't they both french and slav collaborations?

Reminder
>the meditation orbs are so the aliens can fuck other aliens from other planets
>near the middle of the movie they send a bunch of children to mass meditate

I don't like those implications, scoob.

gotta keep the species alive

But just imagine it. Up till now you've just been some draag child playing with your om and playing fantastic console 64 or whatever, just having fun watching fantasticmon. You've been training to meditate, and it's fun, you just fly around in a bubble. Then the day comes when everyone has to float to the fantastic planet, and you don't think much of it, it's just like any other tests. So you get there, and land on a creepy naked body, and so do your classmates. And you wait a while, not knowing exactly what's going on. And then these other orbs you've never seen show up and place themselves on the other body next to you. And before you know it, it's like the body IS you. And suddenly this stranger grabs you and starts fucking you, and you look around and all your other classmates are getting fucked too. Nobody told you about this, you were not prepared, you thought you'd just float around again, and here you are taking this stranger aliens cock up the vagoo, or some boys are unfortunate enough to have landed in female bodies. It is an utterly traumatic mass rape of children, you end up soaked in statue cum and faint, your bubble floating back to your home planet, where you wake up with a sore ass and in a pile with the other children and all the adults in s circle clapping and going "congratulations!"

No wonder all the draag are fucking sociopaths.

it's probably a pleasure so intense it cannot be comprehended by mankind

Don't be a xeno pedo, user

Anyone?

That's kind of hot.

I love Ralph Bakshi.

>mfw rusty french

Maybe I'll try reading it. Amazing how much more appealing something is when it's not utterly devoid of expression.

Best version of Alice in Wonderland.

Why are so comics so hard to translate to english from french? I seriously haven't read a single one that has had emotional or natural dialogue. Is there some science behind it? Do our translators just suck?

DON'T TALK TO ME OR MY WIFE'S SON EVER AGAIN

This girl was cute.
Kind of a shame how she disappears from the movie halfway through.

user love Tiva! user love Tiva!

This may not be a popular opinion but i do not think that fantastic planet is that good.

The art is amazing and the soundtrack is incredible but the story is so shitty and the animation is so poor.

It's only as respectable maybe as Heavy Metal and Heavy Metal kinda sucks.

I can't remember this one so well, so I'm not sure, but I think it was pretty good.

Nah that's fair. The only reason to watch is because of how creative and weird and pretty looking it is. I still really like the movie but yeah.

The story may seem very literal and simple, but it's actuslly one big allegory for the bolshevik treatment of the Slavic peoples. The director and many of the animators were eastern Europeans running from that oppression and the whole film is basically an allegory of that and other similar ethnic oppressions at the time.

I think the animation helps give it that surreal feeling. Like Yellow Submarine or the animations from Monty Python.

loved this as a kid

...

>Do our translators just suck?
This probably.
They aren't writing- they aren't poets. So their translations become the most bare bones and clinical version of what is written.

Thanks, this will show up now on every thread about this movie.

would kids like psychedelic stuff like this in this day

I don't see why not.

what about an adventure show on tv wit a psychedelic setting

Nahh, I'm sure that wouldn't sell.

that's whimsical, friend

It's not psychedelic? Is whimsical at least still surreal?

it's like entry surreal. less and less as time has gone on.

They killed Fritz!
THEY KILLED FRITZ!!

That's why you watch it on drugs friend.

but if i have to be on drugs to enjoy something then it isn't good

>Seems like a weird movie to make a comic out of.

Pretty sure they're both adapted from the same book. I think it's called "Oms en serie".

I didn't realize it was an adaptation. Nonetheless, the title cover of the comic looks like something out of invader zim.

Strings is a bizarre and surreal movie you might enjoy. It's about puppets in a grimdark fantasy world, but the twist is that they ARE puppets. Like their religion revolves around strings and they use archways as walls since no one can walk under them and stuff like that.

There was a stop-motion Alice in Wonderland?

It's the eyes... Those lidless soulless eyes...

Every time I see a Draag I hear the guitar rift.

fuuuuck this was spooky. fucking euro loli with horrible voice dub syncs hanging out with failed taxidermy creatures. that rabbit...

Time Masters is better because it is more coherent and basically normie-tier

I still have nightmares.

...

It's not 100% stopmotion. The girl that plays Alice is a regular liveaction actress. But I think every other character is done with stopmotion or puppetry.

It's also not a typical Alice in Wonderland adaptation. It's technically taken from the story, but it's much darker than usual interpretations.

That looks bizarrely interesting...

This is one of the few movies I couldn't finish because it freaked me out too badly. That's saying something because I've been hanging around Sup Forums since at least 2007 (although I tried watching around 2010ish). Probably just in a bad place at the time.

I hear ya. It's not even particularly explicit, but it's still very, disconcerting...?

I found it interesting, but I think I had a terrified grimace all throughout.

I dont think the point is very similar to fantastic planet other than they were made around yhe same time, maybe? But it certainly is a gem with pretty good animation, great music, a good light hearted fable, and awesome charaters.

Hans, hans, im allright, im fine!

That looks like the type of thing Liquid TV would think was bad.

Oh. Oh damn. There you go again, raining on my parade, stealing my thunder. Just. Oh damn!

these are both good

when you say "like it"? what do you mean? fantasy/sci fi or made decades ago or just "different"?

Flight of Dragons
Secret of NIMH
Plague Dogs
Fantastic Adventures of Unico
Enchanted Elm Forest
Rainbow Brite Movie
Felix the Cat Movie
Felidae
Aeon Flux (i have only seen like one episode and it was weird as fuck)
The Last Unicorn
The Hobbit cartoon
Secret of the Kells
Persepolis
various Hayao Miyazaki studio ghibli stuff like Nausicaa and Princess Mononoke
Heavy Metal

okay well you go ahead and get stoned and watch the trouble with tribbles episode of the star trek cartoon and you get back to us and keep generalizing.

ass.

>degenerate getting all defensive

Lul

Rad thread bump

We need porn of her entering puberty and using a human to play with

Twice is really more just stylish, it doesn't have any of Fantastic Planet's fucked uppery or surreal horror.

Synonymous Botch is best villain, though.

>The Congress
That fucking Bowie, man!

There was this old cartoon I only remember bits of from around the same time.

A guy from a spaceship was jesus and fucked apes to create humanity.

Eventually he went back to the spaceship years later since he had a cryostasis capsule and everyone on the ship had mutated into monsters.

Ring any bells?

Sounds like "Go To Hell!!"

www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1cGYziG_3M

Man that looks nothing like I remember.
But you're right, that's it.

I've been trying to find this for years, thanks user.

No worries. I found it again myself a little while back after spending a long time wondering if I'd imagined "that weird cartoon where lucifer fucked a gorilla" on Aussie TV back in the late 90's.

>implying
They are getting prepared for it.Also I'm pretty sure they don't have "Sex taboo" as humans do.

I mean why would they? It seems like a big part of their culture.

But he's right. If you need an outside source to stimulate yourself in order to enjoy a movie or TV show, then the media in question probably wasn't good to begin with.

There she is
Stupid bitch dcouldn't even properly take care of her pet

>if you want to be depressed and in thought for the rest of the day.
Most of his old work (like his student film and the shorts for the animation show) is mostly comedy, and its pretty funny actually.

You mean that Americans do? The rest of the civilized world doesn't have a problem with sexuality/nudity in culture.

Ankama's Tiva is cute

We have a problem with its absence, as displayed here

To be fair in that comic a lot of the Oms are naked, is just the draggs got more clothing

That's very much not something which I enjoy, but for each his own I guess. People sure like watching humans run around and do human things.

weird seeing them express, like how the one that was killed in the movie only looked mildly shocked, but Tiva does look cute
but in the movie, when the olms are shooting those statues, where the draags dying? or was it akin to castration?

Seemed more like it made them blind, or hurt their brains.

It's breaking the psychic tie to the statue, so just a killer headache. But if the Oms had destroyed all the statues they wouldn't be able to reproduce.

>they wouldn't be able to reproduce
Did they ever give a reason for why they needed the whole meditation deal to reproduce?

Had the Traags just naturally lost the ability without the help of other species?

No. That's what makes the dancing scene so surreal. They say it gives them some kind of meaning but that's it.

It was almost a death sentence to their species. They didn't die from it, but it meant that their weird mental form of recreation couldn't be achieved anymore.

it was never specified if tha statues were irreplaceable or not

>the olms figuratively had the draags by the balls
I'll take it

>weird seeing them express
Yeah, it's kind of a plus and a minus.

On one hand, I think the Traag's cold emotionless faces fit thematically in making them seem more alien and otherworldly.

On the other hand, it never ceases to give me the jibblies.
