First one was a masterpiece in the terms of atmosphere. The feel of being put up against an unstoppable killing machine brought thrill and horror. While the second one is definitely an excellent movie, it just doesn't have that feel because now you have said unstoppable killing machine on your side.

Terminator feels like a horror movie.
Terminator 2 is a fun action movie. It has Arnie as the good guy, funny quips, and an emotionally rewarding ending. It's more crowd pleasing. That's why it gets loved more by plebs.

Terminator 2 should never happened. The story doesn't even make sense when held up against the rules of the original. Case in point, the reason the future visitors always arrive naked is because the time machine can only send living tissue.
Arnie gets a pass because he's a robot surrounded by living tissue. But there's no fucking explanation for how the completely metal T1000 was able to travel through time.

After all these years there are still people who don't know that? The T-1000 arrived in a flesh cocoon. They decided not to put it in the movie because they thought some people would find it disturbing, disgusting or confusing. Google it.
