/doag/ there's becky edition

He really was just lifting weights in there. No homo-room.

FFS Willis. That chekov's gun had wet powder.

What are those pictures?

i can't tell what emotion the strip is going for in the last panel with the imagery and Becky's smile. Is it suppose to be her repressing her bad memories for a future story line, or her overcoming her problems by confronting them in the house? And if its the former, is her smile suppose to be humorous, like a joke?

Her super-christian dad crying over her dead mom would be my guess.

It's funny how the silhouette concept is actually pretty good and subtle, but was ruined by the author literally saying OMG THIS IS REALLY SAD U GUYS

probably repressing them, and the smile is just her pretending shes not upset
its really unclear in this one but her doing that was still previously established

So was Becky's dad a lunatic BEFORE her mom died?

anything good, can and will be ruined by Tumblr

We don't know.

Why is it the last time again? I forget the stupid reason why they're breaking in

Posting this again since the last thread died so fast after it was posted.

to get Becky's social security stuff and birth certificate so she can apply for jobs or school.

Yes he was, Joyce's parents (or at least her dad) hated him but tolerated him for their daughter's sake.

But why are they BREAKING IN to do it? And why can't she come back?

Because Becky ran away from home and had no means of entering

Because it reminds her of her psycho father and dead mom.

You know, for a zealot, there's not a whole lot of Jesus in this house.

I'm not a zealot, but I have a shit ton of little Marys and Crucifices floating around

What's the deal Hacqus, I mean Willis?

Toedad probably thought he was a sinner.

Becky is probably a mild psychopath. Mental illness runs in her family and she's shown to use people with a smile on her face and have little to no grasp of consequence.

I've discovered a way to enjoy this comic.

Don't expand the image.
Don't visit any links to the page.
Don't read any of the dialogue.
Don't look at the art.

It's easy. It's improved my life.

Because the police are meanies and want the girl who was kidnapped by her dad to live on the streets instead of handing over his house keys to her.

I mean presumably, not like they bothered to ask.

You know, for some reason, the whole eye over the hair thing is a million times worse when it's a Willis eye than an anime one.

I don't know, some people like it, but I think his whole style is just ugly

I ponder if Becky is truly lesbian, or just trying to stand out in some way.

>handing over his house keys to her
in what situation would they ever do that, that makes no sense

It's extremely rare to have a 100% anything when it comes to sexual preference. Despite what the people on tumblr and /lgbt/ will tell you, bi people are more common and not all horrible monsters.

i actually like his style most of the time but yeah the eye over the hair thing is fucking awful

I personally think his artstyle is everything wrong with Newspaper comics and early webcomics rolled into one, but different strokes and all.

>bi people

Bisexuality in webcomics is just an excuse to make a gay character without calling them gay.

Okay, so becky didn't know her Social Security Number?

Why not?

Why would you not know that by heart?

It baffles me when people don't know important stuff like that.

The most insane to me is people who don't know their blood type.

I've met a grown man who didn't know his blood type.

It's her house?

bi-sexuals aren't monsters. We're benevolent mythical creatures, like unicorns and pegasus.

no it isnt. its her dads house.

Not necessarily, I've been in homes of hardcore, fundamentalist, church-twice-a-week-plus-bible-study-on-Thursdays types who had nothing on their walls while my parents, who attend church once a week but otherwise aren't involved much, have two crosses and three icons.

They're also Protestant which don't really go heavy on the religious bling.

Because it's her house too, containing all of her personal documents that she needs to live in society, and she's locked out of it now that they arrested her abusive dad who had the only set of keys.

I guess technically the property legally belongs solely to her dad, but it's also been mentioned that she's unable to legally declare herself as homeless until the place forecloses.

An officer could've at least escorted her while she collected her belongings out of it.

More like a bicorn! Or a peg... uh... peg-a-cis? I don't know.

Oh Jesus.

Luther was pretty much the worst thing to ever happen to the Western World.

I get that the Church needed reform, but it didn't need a fat blowhard oaf who couldn't fathom being questioned

No, it isn't. If the mortgage was unpaid, it is the banks property. If it was paid, it is still her father's house. Being incarcerated does not mean loss of property unless that property is contraband.

Becky's a fucking short-sighted moron, this has been long-established

Because most people have very few reasons to use their SS number until they reach college, especially if they didn't have a job in high school.

Also, I don't know my blood type. Never had any major illness or injury so it's never come up.

>Never had any major illness or injury so it's never come up
Yeah, but it's just something you should know.

Why didn't your parent or whatever PC term for mom tell you?

Look, it's something you should know, like where the hospital closest to your house is, but most people don't, it's not one of the problems with the story. There are so many others, you can't get hung up on this.

Becky saying inappropriate things at inappropriate times in inappropriate places.

Do your worst Sup Forums

Becky is a lesbian because its an excuse to make her interesting.

...

I didn't know my blood type till I gave blood. it wasn't even on my birth certificate so even my parents didn't know. Most hospitals won't check if there is no need to give you blood.

No, it's not her house. Yes, the police should have just been able to escort her while she removes personal items unless her dad barred her from the property, in which case the police would have to remove the items from the house for Becky. There is also no such thing as legally declared homelessness, she's referring to a financial aid form.

I meant Becky and her family are Protestant, not my parents.

>peg-a-cis
That's golden.

Then it fails what it's meant for.

joss saying something doesnt make it true
beckys 18 and left home, legally shes got no right to it anymore

What kind of Third World Rwanda tier Healthcare you got, famalam?

Ah yes, guys who run blogs about comic books are the people you need to get your legal advice from, especially when talking about breaking and entering.

Willis tends to do that.

If someone cleans that up I'll try tomorrow.

That mouth looks weird.

Would he usually draw gums there?

Is this before or after the Pleb comix?

Don't know, he's got a massive queue months in advance, but whether he's gone back and edited some of them? Who knows.

>Would he usually draw gums there?

Would and has.

Unless you actually need a transfusion hospitals aren't going to ask you your blood type and they're going to test for type either way. The only way you'll find out your blood type is if you ask or if you have a disorder where knowing is very pertinent, in which case you probably will get a medical alert bracelet.

>Yeah, but it's just something you should know.
why

...

Not much you can do without redrawing it at a larger scale from scratch. She's only like 30 pixels tall in the original.

This is true. I have 3 kids and no idea what any of their blood types are. I asked when my middle son was born, and they told me they don't type babies, there's no reason to. When I was born, hospitals did it. They don't anymore.

I was born in '85 and wasn't typed.

There's something about all this Becky's House kerfuffle and shenanigans that irks me to the point that I can't say it's a "good story", even to Willis/DOA's standards.

I dunno. Maybe it's the trigger warning. Or maybe it's how Willis only now feels the need to show us the extent of Becky's life, rather than having begun to peel back the layers of Becky's psyche the moment she became a main character in the story.

It's the pacing that throws everything off. Toedad was more than six months ago; if Willis was using page instead of strip format this would have dropped a long time ago. He obviously writes for the trade and his comic suffers for it.

'93 and I learned when I gave blood and checked the box saying I wanted a doner card.
Mind you, this was maybe the third time I'd given blood, but none of the other occasions gave me the option.

They just don't tell you that shit these days. Don't know why.

Standard procedure is to give you filtered plasma until they can complete a type test. That way they don't have to worry about a patient being wrong.

It comes off like her father's depression over her mother cheers her up.

I grew up in a fairly devout Christian home, and we had none of these things.

How on earth is that relevant to his post?!

Just happened to have a conversation with a bunch of coworkers today about blood time. It was maybe two dozen people, literally one person knew her type.

So this pretty much confirms that Toedad wasn't a fucking loony, he was just in a state of crippling depression in the wake of his wife's death and probably just wanted to do everything he could to make sure his only daughter didn't wind up getting hurt by a corrupt, degenerate, cruel world.

QUICK! BETTER INSERT A SNARKY QUIP!

HA HA HA! WHO ELSE BUT BECKY??

I don't know my blood type...

No, Toedad went loony following the stress of his wife's death and his daughter's homosexuality clashing with his Christian beliefs that both of them would go to hell. His entire rampage was a desperate attempt by a broken man to save his daughter from the eternal punishment of a strict and implacable god.

Joyce being short with Becky is was just for the last strip's punchline, cool. Cool, cool, cool. At some point, Joyce's complete lack of reaction to Becky's virulent quirkines makes her seem like an idiot.

Also, I was wondering where I had heard what happened to Becky's mom. I saw someone reference that Willis said, who knows where, that she died of cancer a year before the story. Why does he keep doing storytelling outside of his comic. Same deal with Carla being trans. The primary medium is the website and comic, right? Shouldn't the storytelling, especially big reveals/information actually be in the comic, not only alluded to in the strip and then explained in plain\\text on some off-site blog?

If he actually let his strips stand alone sans trigger warning, you'd just assume she killed herself. Heck, even with the trigger warning, it reads like she eventually did kill herself. Why only show positive home memories, then attempted suicide then the aftermath, entirely skipping anything having to do with her condition?

That's the difference between papist idolitors and puritan killjoys

So she gave the finger to his dad despite knowing this shit?

Terrible writting if we are meant to like her.

Because her dad is a controlling nut case who won't even let her drive or have a key to her own house

>Her dad was literally devastated by the death of his wife and, more importantly, her mother
>Becky reminds this and yet he told his dad to fuck off and she now smirks when thinking of her father crippling depression

I'd neve thought Willis writing would be so abysmal

He doesn't like gay people, that means he's worse than hitler and should be purged from the world.

You are confused, yes the house is not her property but it is her home, her offical leagal residence. If the bank or her dad want to evict her there is a process for that but it takes month, potentially years if she decided to fight it.
Even if she was officially moved out there would still be property that she is entitled to. Not just things she has paid for but also anything that had been give to her or that was for her exclusive use. So not the 200 bucks but clothes, furniture, her tv if she has one, all leagal and above board

Anyone have tomorrow's Patreon strip?
