>leaking
>shitty eurofighters on it
nothing redeemable about that junk

Even with leaks, it could still sink whole russian "fleet" alone.

What are you talking about? Coal powered carriers are the future

Was it caused by the civilian drone that landed on its deck earlier this year?

>britbongs on suicide watch

>Eurofighters

Uhh its carrier air wing will consist of F-35B's. Plus France really does not have a leg to stand on here since the CdG is out for 18 fucking months. 2 diesel powered carriers is better than 1 nuclear powered.

>HMS
>warship

The QE wasn't commissioned yet at that time and was property of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance, not the Royal Navy. It had no weapon systems installed yet and it was docked at a commercial port, not a naval base. The whole deal about it being a huge security breach is overblown although it shouldn't have happened.

rip in peace

>implying they can't fix it

>F35
People still fall for this?

Name a better successor for the F-16, F/A-18 and AV-8B

D O C K E D

F-35 is a piece of junk full of problems. Would be better keep the F-16, F-18.

They should rename that thing. Now it just constantly disrespects the queen by being an absolute travesty.

2 bath tubs an hour it's leaking, absolutely nothing and this is what trials are for to iron out the kinks especially with seals around the propeller shafts. Non story.

It's not named after the current Queen.

This issue around the propeller shaft has been known for a while don't know why it's suddenly got everyone in a spin, they've been sailing about the place perfectly fine. The ship won't even need to be in dry dock to fix it either, can sort it out while alongside.

Not many people know that.
Boris Boat would sound better.

But you're asking for a jet that replaces all three of those and that's a stupid premise to begin with (and what the F-35 is based on). Part of the argument was that it would be cheaper to develop and buy one multi-role jet rather than have multiple types of jet in your AF.

>F-35
>cheap
my sides

Why aren't any of these ''''''''''''''carriers'''''''''''''' nuclear powered? I thought Euros loved the environment.

Can somebody explain why UK needs carriers in the first place?

to rule the waves obv

Overseas territories and bases to protect and service. As well as general power projection.

Because it has looked across the ocean and realized that the US isn't interested in defending anyone who isn't going to 'buy in' to their own protection.

As well as this

The cost was too high, and the only place in the UK making nuclear reactors is currently too busy with the new Astute-class submarines. You would still need support tankers to refuel the escort ships regardless so refuelling a carrier at the same time isn't a big deal.

Yeah you might want to read up on Red Flag 17-1 to see how the F-35 performed against your precious 4th/4.5th gen fighters. And keep in mind the F-35 didn't even hit FOC yet.

The program has had its delays and cost overruns, but currently it's going quite smoothly. Delivery target hit for 2017, over 270 F-35s flying, first F-35s deployed abroad, block 3F software upgrade coming up and its nearing full rate production soon.
People keep forgetting the development phase of the F-16 and F/A-18 were far more problematic than the F-35, with over 10 F-16s crashed before it hit IOC. Yet it became the most successful plane of its time.

>a faulty seal
Oh no! Seals which are so intricate and expensive, they will have to tear down the ship and start from scratch. Not much of a problem.
Booo, go for broke, nuclear powered frigates and destroyers, nuclear powered fighters too for safety.

they aren't nuclear powered BECAUSE Euros love the environment.

We've got 4 of these new 40,000t tankers on the way we'll be fine.

I didn't say it had to be a successor to all. I asked him to name a better successor for all 3 respectively. As I can see, there really isn't.

Current price including engine is around $90 million, which will drop below $85m when full rate production starts. Eurofighter and Rafale are $100+ million for export orders.

With the F-35 at least some 20% of it is being built in the UK, sustaining jobs and contributing £1billion every year to the economy.
