EU to discuss sanctions over Poland judiciary reforms
The Commission is concerned that democracy in Poland is under threat from a raft of new laws, including how judges are appointed.
The Polish conservative government says the reforms are needed to curb inefficiency and corruption.
The European Commission has been monitoring the situation in Poland for almost two years.
Later on Wednesday, Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker will a lead a discussion about whether it is time to recommend the activation of the EU disciplinary process known as Article 7 - which has never been used before.
When you come into the EU, there's a serie of boxes to check in terms of laws (independance of justice, fight against corruption, etc.) that you agree on upholding. If you change those laws afterwards, then you lose access to benefits of the EU. It's pretty fair.
Brayden Harris
I hope we'll exit this shitty union soon
Hudson Rodriguez
I hope you leave too. Less taxes for us, less money for you.
William Collins
>independance of justice, fight against corruption, etc. really? is that why Junker stated he's okey with seecret meetings from the people and lying to people?
>Mr Juncker has never hidden his view that the compromises and deals being worked out in EU meetings or leaders or ministers need be protected from public scrutiny, by lies if necessary.
>"When it becomes serious, you have to lie," he said.
>In May 2011, he told a meeting of the federalist European Movement that he often “had to lie” and that eurozone monetary policy should be discussed in “secret, dark debates”.
>He also sparked controversy by suggesting that the eurozone economic policy was incompatible with democracy.
>“We all know what to do, we just don't know how to get re-elected after we've done it,” Mr Juncker cynically quipped last year.
>Mr Juncker was also closely linked to the EU constitution, before the French referendum on it in 2005 he predicted, correctly, that Europe would ignore any popular rejections.
>“If it's a Yes, we will say 'on we go', and if it's a No we will say 'we continue’,” he said.
At this point whatever the EU shits out is irrelevant.
Thomas Price
> EU to discuss sanctions over Poland judiciary reforms
Mmm...... Isn't Poland a independent country? EU is always like that? I can't understand why EU give a sanction to a judiciary reforms of other countries...

Westerners are not going to stop in their determination to utterly destroy Poland. Merkel, the EU and progressives are threatening Poland with destruction for not bending over and submitting to Brussels rule. Once again, Poland is on the frontline of the defense of civilization, and once again, Poland is going to lose and be destroyed. Poland is the Christ of Nations that died for the salvation of fellow Europeans

all those "sanctions" are really toothless. We should cut gibsmedat money to Poland, that would bring their authoritarian government into real trouble

Poland agreed to certain deals when entering the EU. If Poland doesn't uphold it's end of the bargain, it is only fair to sanction them

i'm sure that losing 2% of our budget will make our country collapse overnight anyways, we understand that we will receive way less from EU funds than before (possibly becoming a net contributor), because we become way more developed since 2007, and with UK leaving there is less money in EU funds overall there were talks about sanctions for like 2 years now and still nothing happened
I've long scrapped this disgusting yurotrash kike flag off my plates.
I dont see how anyone can proudly display this whore terrorist flag on their possessions.
Eli Perez
EU is doing literally nothing wrong here.
While it's true that the action is in part motivated by political agitation from the side of deposed and corrupt polish liberals...
...substance of criticism leveled against nationalist polish government is factually and objectively correct - polish government is actively undermining division of power and subordinating judiciary to political officers.
Polish government is right when it claims that reform is called for, and their reform does many things right. But along with those it contains a power grab.
Someone shit on your car way before you shit on the flag

The law in question is about car locks, and if it had passed you could link me to an articles of what was in it. The """reportedly""" wider aplication is nothing short of sensationalist speculation. Give me an article on what's in the law when it passed (if it even passed). Or stop spreading fake news.

This refugee law is unfair and according to the Radbruch formula (invited by Germans) we are not obliged to accept it.

you are welcome to provide more up to date data
EU is founded on certain principles like democracy or separation of power. Poland becoming a dicatorship is not acceptable for EU
Hudson Long
It's not accurate. Net payments of EU budget are a very minor thing compared to transfers in actual federations, and while from individual perspective it is quite significant, in context of national product it's a fairly minor thing. Furthermore their relative difference in development is due to decades of communism you can consider yourselves lucky to be spared of.
You are also shitting on many honest people who want nothing but to do honest work and provide for their families. If you unironically believe that an average Pole is in any meaningful way worse than an average Italian or an average Brit then you're delusional.

>The judges at the other federal supreme courts are selected by the Judges Election Committee. The Judges Election Committee is convened by the Federal Minister of Justice. The committee is composed of a total of thirty-two members and consists of the ministers of justice of the sixteen German states and sixteen members selected by the Bundestag. (Basic Law, art. 95, para. 2)
So, in Germany all members of the Judges Election Committee are politicians or members chose directly by politicians. While in Poland even after "undemocratic" reforms there will be some independent members in such a committee.
