Just how far do you go to hide your powerlevel from you friends, family and girlfriend?

Just how far do you go to hide your powerlevel from you friends, family and girlfriend?

Not far. I never bring it up, i just talk about other things.

I dress like a red neck.

My whole family knows I'm a giant dork who collects comics and figurines. They don't care, apart from my mom who passive-aggressively disapproves of what I spend my money on, but I live on my own and pay my own bills now, so whatever.

>friends
Depends. I have friends with similar levels who I sperg out with and friends who I just discuss basic details of movies with. And then there are people I don't bring it up with at all.
>family
I don't have much, but my mother's entire view of anything Sup Forums is that she likes RDJ and my teenage brother is a Deadpoolfag, so I don't bring it up often. I think I gave a cursory, one sentence explanation of CW to my mother when I saw it but that's about it.
>girlfriend
She isn't really into comics but takes a healthy interest, and has a really high powerlevel in a lot of other areas (we're buying two copies of Monster Hunter 4 once I get off work), so she takes the brunt of my sperginess and handles it well, in exchange for which I hear thesis level rants about life in medieval Europe.

Anyone have that webm of that show based on a Japanese animator where he tries to not spew all the observations during the title animation of an anime he was watching with a girl

You're welcome.

Thanks user

My friends and family? Not at all. I kept it concealed from my gf for the first couple of months. But, I eventually got it her into it with pic related as her first.

I got a job so my family stopped bitching
Now I can afford my hobbies too and I don't feel like a sack of garbage at the end of the day. Everyobe wins.

Guy has some great taste, I'll tell you what.

I just never bring any of it up.

But since my father read comics and my parents like to watch animated movie there is not much to hide.

Not really. He broke best girl's heart by saying that he doesn't like girls with short hair, and she was never more to him than a backup for a far inferior girl anyway.

I don't, as I have neither.
I didn't when I still had them.
I should have.

That so? Is best girl, the girl in that webm there? Or is there a girl with even shorter hair? Either way he's wrong, but just curious.

>The only girl in the cast I'd cute.

What is this? I want to watch it.

Easy, don't have friends or girlfriend.

Family doesn't give a fuck.

When I moved, I moved 75% of my stuff before they could help so that they couldn't see what I spent my money on.

Cyborg 009.

My family is reasonably lax, and I don't really bring it up. For all they know, I watch cartoons and read comics "every so often."

My friends have similar tastes, and I discuss currently airing anime with two of them.

My ex was into cartoons and anime, but only the popular ones like adventure time and Death Note.

No one has any idea how deep the rabbit hole goes. My friends will sometimes joke about finding fucked up fetish art of whatever anime or cartoon or something, and I'll just laugh with them. One of my friends found vore art from Bing, and brought it up with us about how insane the internet can be. I've played all three Monster Girl Quest games and am currently playing Paradox.

I am a stand up comic. I use my power level to my advantage.

Are you one of those Patton Oswalt/Jim Gaffigan types who just roast themselves ad nauseum?

Because I hope not. I get it, you're a chubby loser, move the fuck on.

>friends

They know I'm into Sup Forums stuff but don't care. I usually don't discuss stuff with them in any capacity though because I know they aren't interested.

>family

God no.

>girlfriend

Tears in the rain Scoob.

Gaffigan is still funny, even if he's been turned into a meme.

>friends
What I've liked since I've met them I like now, and they all have similar tastes, so I don't really hide my powerlevel

>family
As long as I'm not doing bad shit they're cool with it

>girlfriend
She thinks it's cute
She knows my favorite characters so sometimes when she comes home from shopping she'll bring me something comic related. It's usually just merch made for casuals but I appreciate the sentiment.

Kek no.

I'm just a weirdo into dumb esoterica like everyone else on Sup Forums, but when you utilize that sort of absurdity and adapt it to the stage, people are like "wow how does he come up with shit like that?" And no, I'm not talking about memes.

Also you people have no idea how lucky you are. Well, some of you. Nobody here gives a faggot fuck about Sup Forums stuff, or for that matter most of the entertainment that pervades the US and Western Europe. There are no subcultures or groups of enthusiasts or whatever.

I long for someone with whom I could say, discuss The Weekenders or whatever with all the pervy and common aspects that being a toon lover entails.

The only thing they don't know about is my waifu.

The rest I don't bother hiding, except maybe like YuruYuri.

With my friends and family, it's a non-issue. They're all as big a nerds about something as I am about comics, so when I post about new finds on facebook, they like it and those that are also into it comment. Maybe they're not that into the more esoteric stuff I read but when I post about getting back issues or trades of older cape stuff, they're totally on board. My family's fine too. Hell, my mom got me into comics.

People in public? I'll bring it up if the convo goes that way but I'll probably never mention it otherwise. I have plenty of other likes and things to talk about, because there's more to me than fandom and I have few Sup Forums related apparel, so random people don't generally know my power level.

I used to do everything I could to make myself more normal.
Then I got bored. Now I go out of my way to be weird.

Are you ashamed of your waifu Boco?

No, not at all.

I just get enough shit from mom about never being with a girl already, that I don't need that on top of it.

"You need a girlfriend! You should have a girlfriend! I want grandkids!" SHUT UP!

Respect your parents, Boco

my family can't or well shouldn't judge, collecting runs in the family. plus when your family has a bunch of hoarders in it you generally slip under the radar.

From my what?

You should leave.

>My whole family knows I'm a giant dork who collects comics and figurines.
This, I'm usually who everyone refers to whenever something based on a comic comes out. Whenever my friends see one of the Marvel Legend or DC Universe figures they'll call or text me to explain who or what it is. Though I have a friend I sperg about cartoons with. I can't recall having ever truly hidden my power level, whenever I talk about nerd shit I either make new friends or people are interested in what I'm talking about.

Don't have to hide anything if you have neither!

The thing is, as long as you're a functional human being nobody gives a damn what dumb shit you're into. If literally all you can talk about is comics or vidya or whatever, people are gonna look down on you. But if you're a person who has a life and varied interests and hobbies and, oh yeah, he's all about some Spider-Man, nobody's gonna bat an eye

>not liking girls with short hair
He didn't deserve her

I actually am pretty fucking normie as soon as I step out of the computer.

Some of my friends know that I have a weird interest in furry & rule 34, but I know much worse things than that about some of them, so what the fuck they care. I kinda tend to befriend people who are rather relaxed about others being weird.

I actually once dated a furry, when I was like sixteen. He's the only one who really knew about my various interest in fandoms/furry/various autistic shit. The subject just never came up with any of my other boyfriends/girlfriends.

I sometimes wonder if it should. On the one hand, it's my little weird interests and nobody has to know. On the other hand, those weird little interests of mine are a bigger part of my life than I like admitting, and it would be nice not to have to actively hide some things from my partners - such as the fact that I occasionally draw porn for money, for example.

The one in the webm. It's still a good show, but he's an idiot and a bad person at times so you should be prepared to hate him occasionally.

My parents watch cartoons as well so there's no reason to hide it from them.

Where do you live?

Most everyone where I live are normalfags but we have enough nerds/geeks/whatever to have a thriving number of geek subcultures related to whatever interests. My issue is that most people end up being plebs who don't know all that much about anything anyway.

My family knows. My friends know. My boyfriend knows.

My coworkers, however, think I'm normal. I'm good at faking normal.

Every time it's revealed to anyone they start going on long ass tirades about fucking Avengers movies so I keep it a secret.

>friends

They know. In fact most of them are bigger weebs than I am, and they all watch cartoons on top of it. I'm really the only one of us who is REALLY into comics though.

>family
Stopped caring about hiding it from them now that I live on my own and pay for everything myself. I even left all my toku figures out when my parents stayed in my apartment when they came out to visit over Easter break, and they didn't say a thing. Got my little brother to start reading comics about a year back and we've been swapping books through the mail pretty regularly now that we live on opposite sides of the country.

>gf
>implying

>They know. In fact most of them are bigger weebs than I am, and they all watch cartoons on top of it. I'm really the only one of us who is REALLY into comics though.
Man, I know that feel. Not quite the same but I have a group of e-friends who are all super into anime and though I do like it, I'm more into comic books and such myself. They don't care for Western comic books at all.

Actually IRL I know a lot of people into 'geeky' stuff like comic books or whatever, but I'm one of the only people I know who's all that much into video games and better yet, practically the only person I know with my specific taste in vidya.

Being embarrassed enough by your own hobbies tgat you hide them is beta as fuck and cringey. I don't sperg out about comics but I like them a lot and would never pretend I dont

>friends
Don't have any.
>family
They know I read comics and see what cartoons I watch on Netflix. I download a lot of things that are on there to avoid them finding out too much.
>girlfriend
Don't have one. When I did she would ask about comics and want to talk about them despite not reading them because she wanted to take on interest in what I like. We watched cartoons together and I introduced her to some like Batman Beyond and Wakfu. She got me into anime and we sometimes talk about it, but she has no idea how deep the rabbit hole goes and I would never let her find out some of the stuff I watch unless she mentions watching and liking it first. Even then I would be cautious.

No one can ever know about the things I masturbate to.

>Friends
they wouldn't be friends if I couldn't share in my bullshit, so they all know.

>family
They know my powerlevel is high, but the exact level is kept vague for all our sakes.

>girlfriend
Oh user, you kidder.

>Man, I know that feel. Not quite the same but I have a group of e-friends who are all super into anime and though I do like it, I'm more into comic books and such myself. They don't care for Western comic books at all.

My college roommate is such a huge anime nerd that she's turned cosplay into a side business for herself and she was the one who introduced me to Sup Forums, as she used to be a regular shitposter on Sup Forums.

But yeah, everyone else knows a little about comics, but doesn't follow them regularly. I don't get it.

>No one can ever know about the things I masturbate to.

You know you have to tell us now, right?

>My college roommate is such a huge anime nerd that she's turned cosplay into a side business for herself and she was the one who introduced me to Sup Forums, as she used to be a regular shitposter on Sup Forums.
Heh.

This might be pushing my boundaries here, but was she hot?

>But yeah, everyone else knows a little about comics, but doesn't follow them regularly. I don't get it.
To be fair, I haven't even followed them all that regularly for the past few years. Generally I wait until a run is completed and in trades before I check them out.

>hide your powerlevel
Well, I'm an American watching American comics and cartoons so I have nothing to hide, you poor yellow fevered son of a bitch

>This might be pushing my boundaries here, but was she hot?

Not exactly. She dropped a lot of weight so she could cosplay more professionally, so idk if you'd call her hot now. I wouldn't but I'm a straight female so I don't know your tastes

A girl? On Sup Forums? Say it ain't so.

First day?

No, they're just usually pretty rare or quiet.

Well yeah, if it's not relevant to the conversation, why bring it up in the first place?

Sup Forums has a surprising amount of femanons, you didn't think the gay/beefcake threads were ONLY made by gay guys, did you?

>Sup Forums has a surprising amount of femanons, you didn't think the gay/beefcake threads were ONLY made by gay guys, did you?
...yes,or at least I was starting to.

I don't.

Family doesn't care and it's never been a problem with my exes so I had no reason to hide it. Friends know I'm into nerd shit but unless they're also into nerds I don't talk about it.

I try to make my friends watch stuff like American Pop and Fantastic Planet but most of them don't give a shit about animation so I just don't talk about it with most of them.

>friends
I talk about it with those that watch cartoons. I don't with those that don't. If anyone asks I say it's kind of a hobby I do every so often.
>family
They think I'm only into literature, theatre, history, and classical music, they have no idea of the other stuff I like.
>girlfriend

>Friends
Either into or perfectly aware of my Sup Forums and /tg/ side. We have Friday night cartoons and Monday night boardgames/RPGs. They're just as deep in the hole as me.
>Family
They're aware of what I like. They know my /tg/ side perfectly well, I don't know if they know how Sup Forums I am but they know I watch cartoons.
>Girlfriend
Used to be in group of friends attending both Sup Forums and /tg/ night. Moved away 3 years ago for college. Never found anyone since.

Got any examples?

>"Hey user, do you go on reddit?"
what do you say?

>Why the fuck are you calling me by user instead of my real name and who the fuck are you?

My circumstances are similar to yours, family does their own thing and my friends have similar interests, we watch anime together and give each other reading suggestions some times, it's all pretty good

>No one has any idea how deep the rabbit hole goes.
I'm reasonably sure my best friend knows about atleast one of my fetishes, and I know some of his, each to his own.

>friends
none what so ever
>family
they don't give a shit
>girlfriend
my hand doesn't really care

>yeah, not that often. I prefer Sup Forums

simple as that. A lot of people have forgotten about Sup Forums so it's not so notorious anymore

"Nope"

I don't go any distance to hide it, mainly because my friends are all into the same stuff as me, I'm single, and even if I wasnt, I wouldn't hide my hobbies from her, and my family is cool with it.

>I prefer Sup Forums
Just the thought of saying that out loud gave me anxiety.

>Implying I hide my powerlevel

I get dragged into stupid conversations at work because of it though. Usually with casuals.

Doesn't have any impact on the rest of my life much.

>friends
They're my friends for a reason, we discuss it openly and shit on each other's waifus. I love those guys.

>family
As far as they know I only care about Pixar movies.

>girlfriend
She's seventeen and she's head over heels for me, I could get her into a lot of stuff but I hide my powerlevel even more around her because I want her to think I'm cool

>You like comics? What did you think of that scene in that Captain America movie?

If I hear this one more fucking time.

Not even that kind of casual. The kind who've actually consumed some of the media, but also presume to know everything about it. Be that comics, anime, or what have you.

Shut the fuck up, Boco.

Are you also seventeen? Because you sound like it.

Maybe I'm just jaded as fuck.

You're jaded, sorry about that bro.
Twentyfive by the way.

>being a pedophile
You may as well be mentally 17 you fucking turd.

Fuck off, keep being jaded then

Leave tileanon alone

only as much as it allows me to come up with nostalgic af may mays famalan

I don't. I'll talk about it if they ask, but I don't go into the detail I'd go to when online and anonymous.
>Girlfriend
>implying

>Friends and girlfriend
They are huge nerds.
>Family
They watch TBBT so they think it's funny.

Same here

I can't, I try to be normal but everyone sees through my disguise.

Are there really people out there who have to hide their power level from their family?

My family knows I'm really into Sup Forums, Sup Forums, and sometimes Sup Forums stuff but none of them really care, except for maybe my mom and dad to an extent. With my dad you kind of get a feeling that he kind of wishes he had more of a manly son who was into sports with me, but then he used to read comic books as a kid, used to watch cartoons with me, and watches almost every superhero movie so it's pretty whatever. My mom doesn't care that I read comics or watches cartoons but she does think that video games are a waste of time to an extent but usually doesn't say anything about it.

>Friends
I don't hide it from them
>Family
Everyone has an idea, tt's not a big deal, my older bro watches anime.
>Girlfriend
Non existent, although I'm more open to discussing my interests with guys rather than girls.

>Friends
We enjoy comics/cartoons but I'm the one who always knows more than all of them about this kind of stuff. Sometimes I'll recommend them a few issues/TV shows and we'll just talk about them. It's pretty cool

>Family
I have always been into comics and cartoons but out of my brothers I'm the one who knows the most. They all know and it's just a regular part of my life. My dad was the one who got me/my brothers into capeshit despite him not caring about it.

>Girlfriend
Currently don't have one but my old one didn't care and we would just talk about it occasionally.

Never understood the whole "hiding your power level" thing. If you're ashamed of letting people know you're into comics/cartoons then others will treat you like a weirdo once they find out.

I read "how to be normal for engineers"

i see these people at my uni and 99% are total autists

I don't. I always talk about stuff I like whenever I get the chance.

>Gaffigan
>meme
Explain.

>And no, I'm not talking about memes.
I'm still going to to imagine you getting up on stage with a projector flipping through reaction images.

That's ok, user. She already knows you're gay. She just wants you to bite the bullet one time and give her a baby.

depends, most of the time I keep it to myself since I can't not sound like an obsesive autist
I'm pretty good at it, not even people taliking uneducated stuff about comics can trigger me
though I have a group of semi-casual friends that constantly ask me about some trivia they read and they know the depths of my knowledge about inane shit like capes
>mfw hiding powelevel

>friends
What use would I have for friends who don't share my interests and who I can't be honest with? What would be the point? I'd rather be alone than have "friends" I had to guard myself around.
>family
I don't talk to them in-depth about things they wouldn't have any interest in, I'm not that autistic. But they know I like comics and some of the writers and series I like, so that gives them something to buy me for christmas and birthday presents.
>girlfriend
pic related. I still kinda suspect this was subtle bait because of that "based on your experience of relationships" and "which character resembles your current girlfriend" repeated bait threads that go around (because asking Sup Forums about their non-existent girlfriends means guaranteed replies) but it's actually quite an interesting thread anyway.
