Yeah I'm not even sure where to get art anymore

I'm so nostalgic for 00's internet right now.

It's weird how, by the time it was easy to get a following on deviantART with the addition of clubs and stuff, the website died and now Tumblr is around where it's even more impossible to get a following unless you pander.

Even if this was meant to be ironic, I've been feeling this lately. It feels so bizarre to see everyone and their grandma use the internet daily and bring drama and memes from it IRL.

Why did everyone move to tumblr? It's a terrible site for archiving art and communicating with other people.

Wider range of content, more customizable, and far fewer rules.
Also their interface and marketing appeals more to computer illiterate hipster teenagers

>It's a terrible site for archiving art and communicating with other people.

People don't want to archive or communicate, they want to scream into the void and feel connected, without those connections actually giving nuanced feedback or criticism.

porn

I sorta miss the times when being an active Internet user was looked down upon

I still have difficulty navigating the site, I searched for porn of princess zelda and only got like 60 results with a few images repeated.

Does anybody remember Elfwood? That was my go-to site for fantasy and scifi art.

pixiv
But its been invaded by DA fags
Still most of it is japanese

i'm sure they use secret codes for porn of popular copyrighted characters

I wish I could go back to the times before mass internet and hashtags.

I moved there to follow artists I liked, but my own tumblrs kept getting deleted so now I'm in some sort of limbo.

I've never had a dA, since they don't allow porn.

I miss when I could just browse sites like Flash Player (that site that became UGOplayer or whatever) for videos and read webcomics and could ignore stupid bullshit. Now drama and politics just seeps into everything.

I remember it.

It feels like every single update they made to the site only made it worse, I can't remember ever enjoying anything new they introduced, only lamenting what they took away.

Man what is the point of hiding art like this? I only know the Stephen Galaxy tag because tumblr mad it a big deal when the series got popular. I don't know how many fandom's use secret codes to tag their shit.

To avoid lawsuits, kinda like how now the overwatch porn community is in flames since Blizzard is taking down SFM porn.

Not personally, I remember it being more popular but it was always 200+ drawings of shitty anime OC, predictable black and white photography of a cemetery and poetry that brought to mind Vogons from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy compared to the occasional gem of quality artwork.

I mainly only ever used it to follow pro's I liked.

People shouldn't expect lasting power for tumblr though, it's struggling to stay alive and doesn't offer much options compared to DA.

My question is what will replace tumblr?

I'm still entirely convinced that the arms race that were sparklewolves back in the mid 2000's (young teenagers constantly trying to outdo each other with more markings, colors, accessories, and so on) is a complete mirror image of genders/sexualities/fandoms/whatever people like to label themselves as on tumblr.

Both are quests to see who can be the most special of snowflakes.

t. got caught up in sparkledragons back in '05-6

I used to have dial-up, I still miss the sounds my router made when it connected.

Yeah, I remember that place. Apparently it's now triggering my anti-virus/security software.

That's exactly what it is, I still remember being a weeb-wolf with a cool Japanese name and broken sword. I wish I could forget that past. Dear god, it was cringy.

Man I'm glad my parents made sure that I never posted anything online that was embarrassing or that could be traced back to me.

>without those connections actually giving nuanced feedback or criticism.
seems like nobody actually wants criticism on deviantart though. Even when the critique function is used all people ever do is praise one another. It's pretty bad.

Conceptart used to be good but, it died out for one reason or another (possibly due to drama surrounding the site's owner
I
>and far fewer rules.
Isn't it easy to have your Tumblr account closed? I have heard that if someone gets offended they can basically report you along with a bunch of their friends and your account gets closed fairly quickly.

>tfw checked my newgrounds account for the first time in like 13 years

I almost vomited, what was wrong with me.

>I have heard that if someone gets offended they can basically report you along with a bunch of their friends and your account gets closed fairly quickly

Artist here, I drew lewds of underaged cartoon characters and I remember that a user called bpdpacifica made a post and rallied her friends to mass report me. Got banned within a week. Now I just post my stuff on 8 chan.

Still can't believe there's a facebook page for every food product in wal-mart.

My issue is that everything is so centralized now and the novelty of surfing the internet is all gone.

Instagram is becoming the new DA,Tumblr

Never forget, user. That shame makes you stronger.

>It's a terrible site for archiving art
No, it's perfect for keeping an online sketchbook.

No, I used ConceptArt.

Shit, now I feel sad/nostalgic.

Somehow I used to think that the internet would be awesome and quality content would increase if everyone used it. I wish I could go back in time and slap myself for thinking that.

I gave up on DA because if you didn't pander or already have a following no one gave a shit. No comments or critiques unless you drew MSPaint shit and roleplayed but fuck them.

Tumblr and Instagram is where I post my things along with a main site that doesn't get traffic. Tumblr is where I've gotten at least feedback and requests from.

It's not perfect for anything artwise. As an artist, I frequently find myself having to put a lot of dead space around my sketches just so they don't show up horribly large or horribly tiny on the dashboard.

I still remember how Devianart cringe threads used to be posted here, I miss those.

Now any cringe threads get deleted usually after they reach 100 posts.

Replying to myself but I remembered a good example of what I'm talking about.
toonimated.com/post/144433534203/may-sketch-a-day-15-quiet-mgsvmade-in-the
This artist has to keep breaking up their sketch canvases into awkward chunks because if it's left unbroken then trying to get a better look at it only results in it being fucking tiny when you're looking at it on your dashboard, and getting the Full Resolution view on Tumblr is a fucking hassle sometimes. So this artist has to chop their shit up a bunch just to make sure it can be actually viewable on the dashboard, even if some of the sketches get botched in the process.

I still don't understand hashtags.

Why are they a banned topic again?

>kinda like how now the overwatch porn community is in flames since Blizzard is taking down SFM porn

Wait what?

I had an Elfwood account. That site was a bitch. I remember you had to take a test based on their TOS to get an account and even when you did have an account you could only have I think 100 pictures in each of your galleries (one for Fantasy, one for Sci-fi and one for Fan Art). Their rules for what was fantasy and what was sci-fi were ridiculous. I once uploaded a picture to my fantasy gallery of a girl sitting on a wall surrounded by three little dragons. It got rejected because "her boots were too modern so she should be in sci-fi."

I moved to Deviantart because I was getting sick of all the restrictions on Elfwood. There was also a big site crash or something that resulted in a ton of people getting locked out of their accounts. Emailed the help desk several times to get a new password so I could log in and edit my pictures before I snapped at them and just told them to delete my account.

I like that they finally gave you the ability to edit your own comments. Took fucking forever for something that should have been a simple thing.

>It feels so bizarre to see everyone and their grandma use the internet daily and bring drama and memes from it IRL.

I remember when I used to keep tabs on my friends and family through face book.

Now all my facebook feed shows me is a pissing contest of holier than thou politics and/or religion memes. And lots of it with pictures of minions.

The devientart rules were a little shit yeah there definition of pornography is an insult to both art and pornography.

I recommend dropping facebook. Its been 4 months since I dropped it and I feel so much happier now that I don't have to put up with petty relationship drama and I'm-better-than-you memes. If you want to stay in contact with your friends and family try getting them to go to another social media site.

dA has a bad uploading process, you have to go through 12 dropdown menus to pick WHERE your art goes.

I used it back in 2003, and then 2007. You can't just upload anything without going through those 12 dropdown options

Try artstation
