‘The Flash’ Lands ‘Dope’ Helmer Rick Famuyiwa

EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros has found its director for its feature The Flash. The studio has chosen Rick Famuyiwa, the up and coming director who most recently helmed the Sundance pic Dope. He will step in and direct the film that Warner Bros has slotted for release on March 16, 2018 starring Miller, who is in starmaking mode at the studio in the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, and who also had a cameo in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and will appear in The Justice League Part One. They will work out a deal quickly.

The script is written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who was originally going to make his helming debut but exited the project over creative differences. Grahame-Smith’s take on the iconic DC Entertainment superhero is based on a treatment by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the Lego Movie duo that once expected to helm the picture. Warner Bros is looking for the right chemical mix on its superhero picture line based on the DC Comics heroes, and the feeling internally was that Famuyiwa provided a vision that would resonate with young viewers and that vision was very compatible with the script that the studio is moving toward the start gate with. That vision was executed to strong reviews in Dope, the 2015 film about a young geek trying to survive in a tough Los Angeles neighborhood.

It is a big opportunity for Famuyiwa, whose resume so far has been small distinctive indies like The Wood, Brown Sugar, and Our Family Wedding. He’ll be playing in a much bigger pond, now. Famuyiwa is repped by WME and Oasis.

Famuyiwa's good. Nice pickup by DC.

I liked Dope, so I'm optimistic. For now.

Thats awesome.

>Michelle Maclaren leaves Wonder Woman, WB replaces her with a superior director
>Seth Grahame Smith leaves Flash, WB replaces him with a superior director

For now, anyway.
>InB4 he is let go for "Creative Differences."

This, to be honest. I'm like 99% sure i t's going to happen, especially with the release still being 2 years away.

Though, to be fair, with this being the first big thing since Johns has been a DCEU Overlord, this might actually stick. Johns has been a HUGE proponent of the new Wonder Woman movie and spent a good amount of time hyping up Patty Jenkins.

>That vision was executed to strong reviews in Dope, the 2015 film about a young geek trying to survive in a tough Los Angeles neighborhood.

So is it safe to assume that this guy probably knows his comics or nah?

I'm hype for Johns's new position, but he hyped GL, MoS and BvS as well. The DCEU has gotta get a win in my book before his endorsement counts for anything more than shilling.

>The Flash movie

>LOOK AT ME NOT CARE!

>Johns has been a HUGE proponent of the new Wonder Woman movie and spent a good amount of time hyping up Patty Jenkins.

Was this before or after he read vol 2 though?

So if you don't care, why do you post other than just bumping the thread and making it last longer?

Maybe. The geeks in Dope are more of the 90s hip-hop enthusiast variety. Although they do mention one of them trying to get a hold of a dead friend's comics collection.

>Watch me, I can not care so hard!

Not using the TV Flash = not interested in the movie.

Then why post? Why waste time posting this just to make sure that people know you're not interested

Interesting, I should watch Dope to get a feel to what this guy's directing style is like. Might leed to some clues on how Flash could be

>snyder apologists
truly the worst kind

>T-Totally don't care guys!

I'm still fairly skeptical towards the success of it, DoFP and Apoc set the standard for on-screen speedsters, people who love Fox's Quicksilver are probably going to have high expectations for a Flash solo movie. Flash also has to compete with itself in a way, if the new guy is worse than CW's Grant then could get shit on for that as well.

Flash is my favourite DC hero so I really don't want it to be bad or perform bad, but between Snyder and the previous director leaving over "creative differences" I'm not expecting that much.

The director recently followed Zack, Ben, Ray, and Mamoa at the time of this announcement. He also followed Tatum at the same time as them.

There might be a bit of truth to Tatum as Shazam rumor. But with this new director it might debunk the rumor of it switching release dates.

I was these two; and I didn't really like BvS man, but that doesn't mean I can't be hype about any of the other DC movies, just like how the Thor movies or Iron Man 2 & 3 didn't ruin my hype for the rest of the MCU. I just honestly think shitposting that

>DONT CARE
or
>LOL ITS GONNA SUCK SNYDERFAGS AND DKEKS BTFO

are helping you at all. If anything the best thing to do is just ingore these kinds of threads and let them die.

Also I can say this completely as a MCUfag, the Chris Evans laughing memes are the most annoying memes this board came up with

People follow each other over non-cape movies too, you know.

*arent

shut up DC shill

What makes you think I'm a DC shill? Just said what I really thought, dont understand how that makes me a DC shill

Hope its not a Frank repeat, he was an up and coming director as well you know.

Stop replying to bait, user.

Yes, but he followed Tatum in between following every other person involved with the DCEU.

Now I get that he may just love seeing them Tatum biceps, but the order he did the following in is suspect is all I'm saying

Yea you're right, just kind of tired of all the shitpost in both MCU and DCEU threads from both sides. It's almost as bad as Sup Forums or Sup Forums console wars. I can only hope Sup Forums can get better.

Good thing at least this is on Page 1, will get more people to actually discuss this hopefully

...

Seth was a bad pick for director
I'm happy he had creative differences

I'm not familiar with Famuyiwa's work but I just watched Dope's trailer and it seems like a fun movie so I'll watch it later.
I've only heard good things about him though.

The fact that they're still using Grahame-Smith's script leads me to believe the rumor that he left not because WB didn't like his work but because they wanted a more experienced director.

Absolutely understandable, I am too but the best course of action is to not reply and move on with discussion.

>DCEU thread
>less than 30 minutes before MCUcks show up to derail it

Every fucking time, mfw the sucide watch is truly real.

Anyways... Dope was pretty decent, def. a big improvement over Seth Grahame-Smith.

this confirms Cyborg is co-starring in it

>the sucide watch is truly real.
it's very real

>b-but muh RT
>b-but muh 1 billion

Remember the Aquaman thread where we talked about Wan using Lovecraftian themes and went into how the sea has some scary ass shit in it?

That thread was fun. Now that BvS came out and shitted everything now all threads talking about DCEU is poisonous with shitposting from both sides.

Let's get back to discussing this stuff, how do you guys feel about this move? What could the new director offer to this movie?

I feel nothing.

WB doesn't know what its doing, especially not with Snyder still calling the shots.

>DC gets black director for white superhero movie

How can Disney compete?

>That gives him the freedom to be entertainingly frank, starting with his most recent film, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, in which he played the loyal British butler Alfred. It was popular at the box office but got an absolute kicking from the critics.

>‘Deservedly so. I mean it took £800 million, so the kicking didn’t matter but it was sort of overstuffed…’

>He lets those words hang in the air, then laughs at the thought of a film described by one critic as the most incoherent blockbuster in years.

>‘It was very muddled. I think the next one will be simpler. The script is certainly a lot smaller, it’s more linear.’

>There’s no getting out of it now.

>‘I’m tied into The Batman at the minute [the next instalment, Justice League Part One, is due next year], which is nice because it’s a bit of income…’

dailymail.co.uk/home/event/article-3611038/Batman-v-Superman-Dawn-Justice-star-Jeremy-Irons-new-life-semi-retired-actor.html

Well, Flash will be a Flash/Cyborg movie... you cant have a movie starring black people without havin a black director nowadays.

>Critical and commercial success? Pffft, who wants that?

Watch them cast white actors for the West family, people will lose their shit.

Snyder only has 2 movies left in this contract (that's if he doesn't fuck up JL) and besides that doesn't really have much power over any of the other movies other than being an Executive Producer.

Think that we can look past the whole Snyder debacle with the other DCEU movies m8

>Remember the Aquaman thread where we talked about Wan using Lovecraftian themes and went into how the sea has some scary ass shit in it?
Yes. I fucking loved that thread.
>that gif of the diver jumping off of an underwater cliff and swimming into black water
>those gifs of freaky as fuck underwater creatures
I love threads like that that'll start relevant to the board, shift into something not relevant, and wind up being a better thread than 90% of the other threads up at that moment that are completely board related.

>sequel already guaranteed

>(that's if he doesn't fuck up JL)
>IF

Stubborness is not a very praiseworthy trait.

>get directors like Rick Famuyiwa, Patty Jenkins and David Ayer for your DC movie universe
>put Zack Snyder at the helm
Bravo WB

You never know really, as much as I want to give up on Snyder I still have this bit of hope inside of me that he could do something right probably (or that Warner Bros/DC will have him by the balls in this movie)

Call me overly optimistic or whatever, but one can at least hope

Pic only related cause I love Hope Corgi

>g-guys stop liking DC, M-Muhvel is dah best ;_;

>rumor
That was actually confirmed by the studio. It was what they stated to begin with when they announced Smith was leaving.

Even better then, thanks for the correction.

>Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Admittedly, whatever minuscule hope I had in BvS evaporated as soon as I started reading details about it within reviews. And sure enough, when I watched it it was as bad as I had been sure it was going to be. After the heartbreaking disappointment that MoS was for me, BvS was his mulligan in my book. I am looking at JL as nothing more than a trainwreck I know is coming, that I'm just going to get a good seat to view, but I have no hope in it at all, because the shit stain that directed the first two turds is back again, and what is the definition of insanity?

They didn't state anything.

By taking the effort of coming here, finding that image, completing the captcha and posting it you automatically care, albeit a little. But you still care.

>still posting wonder skeleton
top kek

>N-not fair. It's not relevant at all when an actor admits his own movie wasn't good. Muh directorfu is flawless. He's brought us a new era of c-ca-apekino. Irons is just too st-stupid to understand the subtle c-complexity of BvS. ;_;

Understandable, and I do respect your opinion on the matter. BvS really did bring my hopes down on the rest of the Snyder movies, but it's not completely gone. Like I said call me overly optimistic (Or I guess in some sense insane) but there's still part of me that says that JL will at least be better than BvS hopefully.

Either way my original post was mainly about not letting Snyder's movies deteste anyone from the other director's movie, I'm going into them with an open mind, hopefully they are better

Famuyiwa was reportedly hired because he can appeal to the younger crowd and can work upon the script WB already has to ensure the movie gets made within schedule.

I don't know, it could be fine, but there's a lot of executive meddling behind it, and when it comes to WB, when there's smoke it often means the entire forest has already burned down.

>Dope is about a bunch of modern nerds who love 90s hip hop
BARRY BEING A HUGE COMIC BOOK NERD WHO LOVES SILVER AND GOLDEN AGE PLEASE

This! Please! Oh, fucking please!

This is a mature movie for mature individuals, boy.

Barry will read Dostoyevsky and Maquiavel and wax poetical about the vicissitudes of time.

Bump

because it's basically gonna be a Cyborg movie at this point and the director makes movies for black people

ONLY DISNEY FOR ME REEEEEE

grow up kid

Indeed. Then he will quip about jars of piss.
