Not even Temple of Doom?

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly.

Does batman begins count?

The Godfather 2

/thread

Godfather Part 2
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
Red Dragon

Half of The Godfather 2

harry potter

It's a chronologically first film in a flimsy, changing continuity.

If it counts, so does Casino Royale

>people here searching "best prequels" on google

lmao

Alien

/thead

Fire Walk with Me

lel, I literally just got back from the list of prequels wikipedia article
which was all garbage, OP is right

This.

Puss in Boots

Dawn of the planet of the Apes

Life was a good prequel to Venom
We all know that venom will be shit

This is the answer

What is the definition of prequel?

What qualifies a movie as a prequel?

These are all awful. Especially Temple of Doom.

The new Planet of the apes movies are prequels and theyre lit desu

Wrong

a movie canonically set before a previous movie but chronologically released afterwards. not complicated.

Revenge of the sith

It's bizarre to me that Temple Of Doom has become beloved over the years. Everyone used to think it was shit. It is shit. Maybe that Crystal Skull garbage just made it look really good, who knows.

I liked the James Franco one, actually I think it is by far the best of that whole franchise. Originals are way overrated and didn't age well at all. So, this.

>It's bizarre to me that Temple Of Doom has become beloved over the years.

Same, although it was only very recently that I found out people like it now, I thought the attitude towards it was still negative.

Is it confirmed to be venom prequel? ??

Prometheus was pretty good

Objectively wrong.

It's classic contrarianism combined with a newer entry into the franchise. Alien franchise, Star Wars prequels, Temple of Doom, etc.

I can't believe how many people I've seen start to claim that Alien 3 and Resurrection were good ever since Prometheus and now Covenant came out.

The hobbit

wrong

very

I remember people starting to be forgiving of it after Last Crusade. Like Last Crusade "redeemed" it, so it was okay to like it.

>Fwwm
>good

Most people don't like it but I really enjoyed Cube Zero

Everybody wants that perfect trilogy so they try to forgive the weak one I think. Like Return of the Jedi.

How is the good the bad and the ugly a prequel?

A good prequel is hard to do because when creating a story, you start with the most interesting chunk of it. You have already chosen that as the more important story than the prequel. It's not as interesting to see how things turned out to be. It's better to leave the backstory a mystery or just touched on in sequels.

What came after is a stronger premise for a story than what came before.

movie takes place before the first one in the series and is not a reboot (exists in the same universe as the first and isn't attempting to make a new universe regardless if the characters are technically the same)

How is it bad? Because it's not comfy?

Not a movie but Spartacus: Gods of the Arena

Yeah it's an uphill battle to make an interesting movie where the audience pretty much already knows how it's going to end.

So for example: Henry IV is a prequel to Henry V but only if Henry IV is made and released after Henry V? If someone made the two in sequence, then Henry IV would not be a prequel?

The Star Wars prequels.

But all of them were shit, user. Not just bad Star Wars movies, but bad movies in general.

but but but thats what normies think ;_;

Ouija 2

In Lynch's top 3.

No, Henry IV would predate Henry V in that case, but Henry V would be a sequel to Henry IV. It's all in the name. pre (latin before) + sequel (lation sequor, follow) = prequel (roughly, before follow)

Anyone want to disagree with this one?

I'll disagree in that it's a reboot, not a prequel

X-Men: First Class
The Godfather Part 2
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

by that logic, any movie that has had a sequel made is a prequel. Therefore, the Godfather is the best prequel ever.

Did they ever do the origin story in the original series though? I haven't watched them all.

From my point of view the fans are wrong.

OP OFFICIALLY BTFO

It's part of a trend of what I like to call half-assed reboots. Essentially they want to call over and connect back to the old movies at the same time, so typically they try to keep the relationship between the old and new series somewhat fuzzy. See also Star Trek 2009 and Prometheus.

Fargo S2

No, not at all

Better Call Saul

...

HOW explain this. Arbitrary bullshit /= logic

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

It's not a prequel because it wasn't made after Godfather II you god damn moron

Prequel means it follows, and is before. IE: Is made after the piece of work, but happens before it in relation story wise.

This is correct.

that is NOT what this user says

Rationalize this

>Godfather 2
>awful

Wow, what a shit opinion

Rationalize what? He laid out exactly how it is

WRONG: What was explicitly said is that a movie need not necessarily be made AFTER another movie to be a prequel. read the post again.

It was a silly premise from the beginning, basically a twilight zone reject, but I still like the old.

New ones have done a good job selling them as a contemporary movie. Now I'm just thinking about the scene when Caesar finally speaks.

>NNNNOO!

Final Destination 5.

The new Planet of the Apes movies are awesome.

The Machine War is top tier Montage sequence.

holy fuck, you're retarded..

I'm gonna get shit for this but whatever I'm ready for it...

>I genuinely enjoyed Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them and think it's a great prequel to the Harry Potter franchise.

Translation: a prequel must be made AFTER the "original" film.

Monkeys look fake

Back to the Future 3

AOTC is my favorite Star Wars

Why though?

However my only stipulation with that statement is that I will admit that Eddie Redmayne saved the movie. I believe if they had cast any other actor in that role it would have been shit. He played the part perfectly.

Eps 4 and 5 are genuinely good films and you're just being contrarian

genosis
kamino
jango

Literally a child's opinion

>The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
>awful

wow, what a shit opinion

i agree

what a terrible poster

looks like something more akin to the Left Behind franchise....

Because it was released at a time when I was a teenager, and young vader fucking hershlag in leafy green fields and spilling his guts like a homo just really coincides with my feelings

I need to watch these.

I mean, what's "good"? 6/10 or higher? 8/10 or higher?
I don't think there has ever been a prequel better than the original.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly probably comes closest, though. I'd give it an 8/10.

good in my mind is that the prequel is better than the original.

monsters university
rogue one

Well I was 7 when it was in theaters. Also Christensen is a good actor, just a shitty script.

so if the original is ass and the prequel is merely below average its a good movie?

you're retarded

You are wrong.
