The idea that movies are no longer good is one of the funniest pleb notions in existence
1998/9 had a nice burst of near-classics or classics: Dark City, The Matrix, and Fight Club. None up at the level of "greatest of all time" movies, but all innovative and memorable. One thing these three movies have in common is that the filmmakers tried to add something to the language of narrative cinema, rather than just relying on the old fundamentals. The Matrix, for example, has a fair number of cheesy elements, but there's a great deal of art in how scenes transition to one another and other such details. Meanwhile, Fight Club has been widely misunderstood as just a simplistic critique of consumer culture, whereas in reality it is also a critique of mindless revolutionary zeal and the conformism inherent in revolutionary personality cults.
Thx. Really disappointed there hasn't been a District 9 follow up. That movie deserves it
This
The first Pirates of the Caribbean. The others will be treated like Robocop 2.
No Country for Old Men, The Social Network, In the Mood For Love
Casino Royale.
the social network? are you fucking kidding me?
Literally compare 2007 and 2008's movies with 2015 until now and come back to me.
Wonder Woman, Get Out that's all I have time for pleb.
It's pretty fucking good d.e.s.u
Great dialogue, captures the spirit of early 2000s like no other movie, fantastic music and solid performances
You probably react this way because you still see it as 'a facebook movie wtf', but this is because you are plebeian by nature.
Relevant, clever, original AND funny! Hats off to you dear friend!

These movies does not necessarily represent the oppinions of user on their worth as true "classics", but are rather broad choices that he believes will stand the test of time in the eyes of the public.

middle school science fiction books have better stuff than arrival
nolan is a living clown car, he's such a living joke that one of the biggest Sup Forums memes in it's history revolved around his attempt to write good dialogue
napolean dynamite had less longevity than 'arrow in the knee' and 'cake is a lie'
The Dark Knight Rises
Pretty fun flick my dude
its a movie about some merchant which we already know is a spawn of satan
why would anyone intentionally watch a movie about a demonspawn justifying his theft and destruction of culture
I didn't care for it. It felt hammy and overacted by DiCaprio.
Late 90s was the last great era in film-making. Movies went to shit after 9-11 just like everything else.
reminder mark zuckerberg is so rich he can afford a permanent marketing campaign for his vanity movie and still have interest left over.
I'll agree it's probably not really a classic, I made my list off the "didn't forget within five minutes' part, I suppose
No Country for Old Men
The Matrix
The Departed
Nightwatch/Daywatch
Road to perdition
eastern promises
Only God Forgives, Spring Breakers, There Will Be Blood, there's three from the last 5 years or so. 20 years was a long time with lots of greats.
>only god forgives

The place beyond the pines, there will be blood and in the mood for love are the three best films I've seen in the last 15 years, hands down
upstream color and the lobster. different and memorable.
>Avatar
Seriously nigger? Nobody cares about it now and it hasn't even been ten years. It will be forgotten in another 10. Cameron missed his chance to get tons of shekels on the franchise
It's an exceedingly well crafted film. Don't you have an ANTIFA protest to attend?

NCFOM
Manchester by the sea
Whiplash
LotR trilogy
EWS
Letters from Iwo Jima

The prestige
Inception
Lotr
American Psycho
Drive
Oh, Memories of murder.
>Collateral
>Road to perdition
Realised the only memorable stuff is grimdark + LOTR. Sign of the times. Economically the west is at the same level of inequality as just before WW2 kicked off. Hope is bleak. Having more than your parents and grandparents is unlikely. The apathy and acceptance of the harshness and powerlessness of almost all people is reflected in the masterpieces.
With that said; the Life Aquatic is fucking great. I don't know if future generations will get it, and I know many hate it, but I love it.
I've never wanted a woman more in my life.
Just some ones that spring to mind:
Life of Pi
Beasts of the Southern Wilds

Not a movie but more a tv-series, Orphan Black it's so good, maybe the best thing i have ever seen.
I'd consider this movie a cult classic, if that counts.
>Really disappointed there hasn't been a District 9 follow up.
Why? The story was told. The ending isn't a sequel bait hook, its a punchout ending.
