How many secret service men are there usually at an event like that? About 50? Say with 100 regular police as support. They're all lightly armed too it's not like tanks follow campaigns everywhere they go.

I mean think about the conventions. A whole stadium full of people and just two dozen or so secret service men at the stage protecting the candidates. If everyone in the stadium decided to chimpout and rush the stage the secret service men wouldn't be able to do shit.

John Hinckly was always surprised at just how close you could get to the president. I think the bigger problem is being in the right place at the right time.
