Calvin and Hobbes

Fuck yes it's time to read some Calvin and Hobbes

Going to start off with one of my favorite arcs, with a gorgeously drawn, beautifully colored Sunday every 3 or 4 strips.

It's a magical world, let's go exploring!

Literally me in school

...

Right off the bat, Watterson makes a pretty smart, subtle joke about time travel making no sense

BOOM

Show me anything in the newspaper funnies that looks like this, it's fucking amazing

Any strips you want can be found fairly easily using this

These sundays get so ridiculously good around 91 or so, and just keep getting better each year.

Can't help but think of that erotic comic of this. Thr one with both Hobbes.

...

...

Shhhhh, shh shhh, quiet now

...

...

Anybody have the pearls before swine strips that Watterson did?

...

OP can't bump anymore

Did we ever get an explanation for the "noodle incident?"

Silly boy, that is bot how that works.

>We will never get a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon because Watterson is a hermit

Yes, loving it! Thanks OP.

Good. It's not suited for animation.

Not because it's the sacred cow it is, you just can't convey the same movement and beauty of Watterson's art in animation without a budget worthy of bankrupting Disney.

The voice of Calvin would have sucked, and the delivery on the whimsy would never have had the same impact.

Drawing something like this in class today would get the police called.

Plus how would Hobbes work, imaginary or real

Watterson didn't want animation to settle the issue

Course, you left me no choice. I didn't even want these feels right now.

Thanks OP.

Love this one

Silly boy, that is not how that works.

Oh hey, another arc proving calvin's reality warping abilities or a split personality disorder

...

...

I dont get it

...

Calvins a rude lil shit, but I guess I would be too if all my mom fed me was non-descript green mush

I think the connection he's talking about is her not wanting to explain it to him, so it's bedtime

>worm eaten corpse

jesus kid

This is a favorite of mine as well

>Drawing Calvin is easy! You just make a big mouth and add some hair!
Hah, I didn't remember this story but I do remember that line

Watterson gave a very accurate, real representation of being an out of place kid in grade school

...

was waiting for that one

I'm gonna stop saying which ones are my "favorites" because nearly every sunday strip for the last 4 or 5 years of the comic is my favorite.

That hits a little bit too close.

...

The unfortunate part about Sup Forums is that no one storytimes the volumes where Watterson actually provided commentary for certain strips.
On top of being great comics, the commentary was genuinely interesting.

If you get the chance, check out the Indispensable, The Authoritative, and The Essential Calvin and Hobbes Collections, as well as The Lazy Sunday Book. They all have these absolutely beautiful, full color, full page stories and poems that Watterson did just for the book.

Man, remember the binoculars debacle? That one hit close to home. His parents appeared pretty one-dimensional most of the time but they were a great commentary on modern parenting at the same time.

One of the best.

I'm not sure I really understood this page as a kid, but holy shit yes it is incredibly on-point.

Where's this from?

Calvin kills the mood at the Swingers party

just showing this strip to someone else in school today would get the police called

>Where's this from?
Just something Bill Watterson drew.

Everyone's favorite

never again will there be a time where people bought the newspaper just to read Calvin & Hobbes and The Far Side
