>What does Sup Forums think of Zatanna?
Only exists so Paul Dini can get his rocks off.

>Why doesn't DC give her any love?
Because she doesn't deserve any.

>Also post recommended reading
Google it.

I'm actually kind of glad she's not in the spotlight right now, with the way that they're treating other female capes thee days, it's nice that she's still the same.

...

Oh shit, and her whole thing is magic. You just know that they'd push the whole Quirky Magical Girl thing on her.

Is it my birthday? I should go buy a lottery ticket.

She's one of my favourite comic characters, after Hal and Supes. Such a shame she's so rarely used in books. She'd probably be tied with Hal for #1 if she actually had more content...

Would kill for a Morrison ongoing, been wishing for that since his seven soldiers run.

Yeah.

She can be a tad overpowered at times. I mean, going up against and beating, a guy who matched the fucking Spectre is a little over the top, but I don't really care much. I like superman too much for that shit to annoy me.

...

Hottest DC girl, probably hottest in all of comics.

One of my top favorite female superheros.

>Also post recommended reading

>it's fine when DC kills off a male character and replace it with a lesbian female character

The problem with these reading lists is that they almost always give you pretty much every appearance of the character. So instead of "here are the really good stories with this character" it's "here is every story in which they are mentioned in any way."

Zatanna isn't a lesbian

Also I'm like 90% sure she's a Silver Age legacy so it's not the same

>DC doesn't give her any love
>LITERALLY in Injustice

>lesbian
What? No she wants the batD

Normally I'd be inclined to agree with you, but she honestly doesn't even have that many appearances anyway. You could probably read ever single book shes ever been in, apart from non speaking background stuff, in about ten hours or so. Probably less.

>ever
every

Read she helped mind wipe Batman.
On principle that's that shit I don't like.

>he doesn't like when characters have flawed personalities

You must hate pretty much everything Marvel has ever put out, then.

It's better to just pretend Identity Crisis doesn't exist

post best girl

one of the best eps

...

They shoke up her origins in the New 52. She's a Constantine fangirl now or something similar. I hope they ditch it with Rebirth.

>yfw they announce paul dini series for rebirth and retcon all new 52 shit

wut is this bait?
Stop it, Identity Crisis doesn't exist.

Hubba hubba.

Did any edgy shit ever happen to her?

>yfw they announce paul dini series for rebirth and retcon all new 52 shit

I don't like magic. It's just a cheap trick weak writers use to bypass the established physical laws the universe they are writing for because they can't figure out anything that makes sense to move the story along.

your liking of zee is the only thing preventing me from telling you to fuck off, boco.

You get a pass this time..

found Superman

I don't read comics and I never saw any cartoon about her, but I like porn of her.

>Sup Forums in a sentence

She smoked marijuana in Hellblazer, altered a bunch of villains' minds without their consent in Identity Crisis-era DC, and had a threesome with Constantine and some other guy in the New 52. Other than that, not really.

No rape, no broken spine = boring

>Sup Forums:the post
>with wasted trips to boot

Oh right, Dini had Joker shoot her in the throat so she wouldn't be able to cast spells in his Detective run. She got better in the next issue though.

He talking about the Question guy

I remember reading that little arc, it was one of those moments I felt
>Yeah this is taking Joker too far
Not just because of the gun shot but there was some nonsense early on where while investigating the case of a murder Batman turns on the shower and the steam reveals Joker scrawls confessions of his psychosis or something. I just had to put the comic down for a minute with the thoughts going through my head.

Don't get me wrong TKJ and a bunch of other stuff have already commented that he is a weird asshole but it just felt like they were turning him into Buffalo Bill or something. I don't want to imagine a pale, skinny, green haired, wet, naked homicidal maniac finger painting his journal in the shower.

A character can inherently be a lot of things, implied or direct, from audience to audience through interpretation but generally the idea of a character is that there's something you want to convey and somethings you just don't convey.
It was that initial red light followed by how the rest of the arc unravels with him being 5 steps ahead of Bruce and Zatanna, somehow, and also tricking them in front of their face and all that crap instead of just being a crazy, clown themed guy they find and beat up.

Sometimes somehow it becomes too much. I can't even remember what my point was. Fuck Horror Movie Joker? Something like that.

>She's one of my favourite comic characters,
Good taste, ano-
>after Hal
You motherfucker.

I want Zatara back, you know the actual character.

I bet you're a kylefag.

Or even worse, a simonfag.

Niggas, we all know who the best Lantern is...

I'm an AnyoneButHalFag

Seriously, fuck Hal.

IT BEGINS

i want pic rel

Honestly I like all the earth lanterns, they're pretty great. Except Jessica but I don't know much about her.

>letting the pot boil over

yeah, me too. I like all of em, even jessica and simon are growing on me.

I just like hal the most because I'm attached to the characters loss.

My father died in the air force, in a plane engine failure. Still holding out for that ring.

I like Zatanna a lot and I'm not even Paul Dini.

She doesn't get a lot of love because

a) She is pretty much omnipotent, even by the usual standards of magic characters. There is not a single thing she absolutely *can't* do as long as she says it backwards.

b) The backwards talking gimmick is fun, but it makes her more of a goofy character, hard to put in serious situations. There's a reason her spotlight episode on the JLU show was played for comedy.

I like her. She doesn't get much love because:

1 She's omnipotent, even by magic character standards. She can do anything as long as she says it backwards.

2 The backwards talking gimmick makes her more of a comedy character, hard to put in serious situations.

What a shitty opinion you have. And I wouldn't go out of my way to call a man's opinion shitty, except that your narrow-minded, simplistic view of how to effectively write a story, and the fact that it begins and ends entirely within the confines of the real world, is the exact reason we are now in the third generation of DC tacticool, hyper-realist Nolanified bullshit.

Your shitty opinion is the cancer killing fiction. Please read better books.

Fuck it, I posted the same thing twice by accident. That's OK though, I'm omnipotent and can make the other post go away.

etacilpud tsop hsinav!

I was trying to think of a magic member for the Trinity a few days ago and I completely forgot Alan. I mean he's on the JSA and technically his ring isn't "magic" like Fate or Zatanna, but it still counts.
I think he would make a perfect round off to Clark and Bruce.

She's pretty broken power wise, it's hard to write a story with her.

So this one is better?

>1 She's omnipotent, even by magic character standards. She can do anything as long as she says it backwards.
This isn't really true though. The real problem is that her upper limits are completely undefined. But just about every comic I've read agrees that she DOES have them, and that guys like Fate, Spectre, Phantom Stranger or Shazam (The wizard) are hilariously out of her league.

Sorry for your loss, user

it was 20 years ago, I've had time.

Thanks though, mate.

Why are lanternfags so bitter about every other member besides their favorite? Even Robinfags aren't this bad.

>Why doesn't DC give her any love?
Because you don't care about her.

marvel vs dc, coke vs pepsi, batman vs superman red wine vs white, lanternfags vs eachother etc etc

Old as man itself

>tfw she never got to have her DC Nation shorts

>Rebirth.

any mentions of zee showing up in rebirth yet?

Like I said I don't have a favorite lantern.

I just think Hal needs to get punched in the dick far more frequently.

She gets love in Justice League Dark. I like her there. She's fun.

I actually wish her parents would get some more spotlight. Her dad was a super hero who tutored Batman -- Zatarra and her mom is a homo-magi from Gemworld. They need to focus on them some more because they are cool and interesting.

...

Watch it be a continuation of Gods and Monsters.

Yes, she does have limits in theory, but because there's no rule about what she can't do, any weakness she has is arbitrary. She can't beat the Spectre but we don't really know why she can't just say "Ertceps eid" and destroy him.

Lke in one issue of her solo where a guest writer said her powers don't work on living things, even though they *did* work on living things in the previous issues.

I'm not saying magic needs hard or fast rules but a character needs a better weakness than "gag her so she can't talk backwards."

What DC needs to do is outline some kind of rules for the magic in the DC universe entirely. Something to limit her and the other magical users, like Doctor Fate.

Zee's pretty cool. One of DC's coolest, most memorable B-listers. Her whole speaking backwards gimmick, along with the magician's outfit she has is thematically really cool and instantly recognizable. I'm a sucker for that sort of thing. Doesn't hurt at all that she's sexy as fuck and is probably one of DC's most fetishistic characters. Who wouldn't want to fuck Zatanna? Come on.

Honestly I feel like she has a lot of potential. DC could easily make her an A-lister if they wanted to, right up there with the Big 7. She could easily be used as a sort of 'gateway character' into the magical corner of the DC universe. She kind of already has been used like that before.

Also I think it's funny how Paul Dini is in love with the character, yet he consistently writes practically the most boring Zee ever. Zatanna, in my mind, should be going on crazy Dr. Strange-style cosmic, magical adventures and shit, but his Zatanna book was never really all that interesting and was pretty underwhelming, honestly.

I think if DC wanted to, they could give her a supporting cast that really worked, give her a memorable rogues gallery, the works.

at least post the version with that tripe cut out of it

why she have a bug on her head?

DC has one rule for magic that is set in stone.
Magic has a cost.

I thought Dini's approach to the solo was OK. Kind of a sitcom, but Zee is kind of a sitcom character who needs to be grounded in the real world of stage magic and showbiz.

When she goes on trippy Vertigo-style cosmic adventures she loses some of that. For me she's sort of like Samantha on BEWITCHED, someone who enjoys living in the world of normal people but also having fun with her wacky magic.

Best girl.

Fucking Constantine and lusting for the Bat shows good taste.

True but you never see the consequences of using magic, at least not in mainstream DC.

I think going even further in terms of rules would make stories easier or at least more interesting to read and write, plus enrich magical DC.

God, you might be right. But I vastly prefer the Zatanna that goes on crazy adventures in alternate magical planes of reality than the one who basically just goes through typical superhero hijinx with big of a magician's stage show twist.

Seven Soldiers Zatanna was best Zatanna.

I would accept this. Hell, even keep him gay, but he deserves that spot.

>Zatanna thread on Sup Forums

Is this judgement day?

But we have Zatanna threads every so often.

ain't often enough

Maybe we'd have more if DC actually did more with the character.

can someone explain to me the scene in seven soldiers where she wishes for the man of her dreams but summons something else?

I read it a long time ago but I still remember that scene never made sense to me

>gets powers from a mystical space rock that the Guardians shot into space
> said rock was forged into trillions of different kinds of lamps/lanterns over the years
>has used his powers for so long that he can no longer age

Dude, I love Sentinel, but he more like an "honorary" Green Lantern

Don't quote me on this, but I THINK the way the demon worked, was the he was able to take literally any form, including the "man of her desires," or something. It's not really made all that clear. I think it might also have been because at the time, Zatanna's faith in herself was somewhat shaken, which might've affected her magic.

Cute

That's nothing.

My penis loves her.

Zee is the bomb.

You mean like most hero's do

He has been my favorite for many years. Never got to read much of him outside the JSA though.
