Um, everything? There's so much wrong I'm not sure where to start. Like let's just start with the simple. Why is only central hinterland "China?" Why is it "real" China and why is the rest not? 只有广东最野蛮的猴子才喜欢吃狗狗。广东人什么都吃。 其实驴肉是挺好吃的。

Only if its good land, and only then if it contains people compliant with your regime. The most successful countries in the world tend to be land-starved in case you didn't know.
>Yang Yang, a 22-year-old Chinese corn farmer, spends two to three hours per day streaming video of life in his cliffside village to smartphones across China. He spends lots of time clinging to a cliffside ladder, one hand on his selfie stick, while he banters with fans about village life.
>It's hardly riveting television, but in China it has an audience: In just two months, Yang has managed to earn more than 1 million views and 45,000 regular followers on Kuaishou, an online video app favored by the 73 percent of Chinese who live in small cities and villages.
>That's a lot of people. Kuaishou claims it has 700 million registered users who upload 10 million videos per day. But rather than being celebrated for its focus on China's economically and culturally marginalized majority, Kuaishou has been derided by China's educated urban elite.
Thoughts? Anyone used this app? I heard it is really fun and like 2007 youtube.

Rubbish. Approval ratings for Chinese leadership are far above Trump and even Obama. The poor regions are gradually rising and the gap between urban and rural is narrowing. This is the kind of shit Gordon Chang has been peddling for like fifteen years. All of those instances were small-scale protests supported by a minority of people that always ended in defeat. If the Party could survive the Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution, no doubt it can continue to rule under current conditions.

Move the goalposts some more. I'm one of like a handful of people in this thread that has first hand experiences in China. Gotta go to Taiwan, Shanghai or Beijing next year -- for a year -- for uni.
I'm super into history, which obviously puts Beijing at the top of that list. But literally every Chinese person I've talked to has told me it's shit. Plus, Shanghai has a better university. Which should I go for?
Jonathan Bennett
Can you in anyway, other than using annecdotes and personal experience, prove that you do know "dozens and dozens of Chinese people" and that "the vast majority of Chinese approve the general direction in which China is going"? Can you give statistics from reputable independent sources with no conflict of interest proving your claim? Personal experience cannot be used as justification for statistical claims, and no, the other user's claim is not in anyway weakened by him not having "first hand experience" with China. It is weakened only if either he cannot provide actual proof for his statements, or there are reliable statistics contradicting his claim, or both. Oh, and you did not give an actual counter argument for the other user's claim anyway, being that "the CCP statistics are biased". The burden of proof still lies on him though.
Easton Young
Why don't you find one from the countryside peru? I think Asians are far more interested in whites than them peru. Especially Jeffreys.

>But literally every Chinese person I've talked to has told me it's shit Southern jealousy of the imperial capital strikes again. Seriously Beijing is a great city, it's just the smog that kills the rep. The smog is improving the past few years based on what I heard anway. Beijing is just as good Shanghai or Guangzhou. There's lots to see historically in Beijing, the forbidden city, summer palace etc. For history there's no better place to go. Maybe Xi'an but the stuff in Xi'an isn't as well preserved because Beijing has been the capital for the past five or six centuries. >Shanghai has a better university Peking and Tsinghua and Renmin are China's top three, all are within a ten minute drive in Haidian district of Beijing. Fudan in Shanghai is another top tier school, but I think Beijing is probably the number one city in China for universities. I would say if you're studying history, Beijing would be the best wplace to go. Well if you're just going to blow off all my first hand experiences as invalid, what can I do? Well I suppose I could use other ways, doubtful that they could actually change your mind. thediplomat.com/2013/06/government-for-the-people-in-china/ A Western media article from a not pro-China publication, regarding a public opinion survey carried out in China by Westerners. And here is the survey in question. Of course it's only one survey, but I'm sure there's plenty of others. journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/1065912913486196 What I read in these articles basically agrees with my experiences. Sure Chinese know their situation isn't perfect, but they are heading in a good direction with proper leadership.

Smog was the main complaint, alongside nightlife concerns (not that that really concerns me...). Thank you, memer.

Smog's getting better since I left as I've heard. As for night life, it's not really my thing, but once some of my friends invited me and took me to a night club somewhere near 工体 in Beijing, it was the biggest, loudest dance club thing I had ever been too with a sexy Chinese DJ playing the most deafening dubstep I've ever heard. Beijing definitely has night life too. Not just big and flashy stuff, but also simpler stuff like open-late restaurants and even streetside barbecue. You're welcome, user.

Is it even possible for a country that does nothing but steal from another country to surpass the country it is stealing from?
Matthew Parker
It's only a matter of time. By the 2030's it will be a reality. Everyone used to think it was bonkers that China would surpass Japan, then they did it in 2012, they're more than double Japan now. The China train ain't got no breaks. Deng was a great man. Funny thing, out of all the US Presidents since Nixon, Bush Jr was maybe the friendliest to China. The Bush family have deep roots in China.
Samuel Baker

It is perhaps "cute" that they are trying to imitate us, however it looks like we are going to have to destroy them. Trying to start an ice age is simply not justifiable.
Josiah Hill
remember in the 80's how everyone was saying Japan was going to surpass US? look at where they are now. China is even worse off with uncontrollable debt and real estate bubble.
David Johnson
False analogy. Japan isn't China. In fact China went from merely surpassing Japan in GDP in 2012 to doubling them in 2017. China is moving rapidly forward and is an essential part of the global economy. As long as there is a need for manufacture goods, China's economy will not shrink. By around 2030, the Chinese GDP will have equaled the US. It is unavoidable. It is their destiny. Debt in itself is not a bad thing, as long as China is good on their debts. I have debts but I live just fine with them as I pay em off by the month, same applies to countries, just bigger. And the whole real estate bubble thing, it won't destroy the economy.
Nolan Bell
everything on my jewish side is perfect, but I need to fix some on the amerindian side.

Jaxon Barnes
Wouldn't he have to apply for a legit visa?
Joseph Mitchell
Robots so far are nowhere near as capable as humans. That's why Foxconn still needs thousands and thousands of workers to produce the iPhones. Machines are good for simple tasks, like drilling in a nail somewhere, but they cna't do the precision shit that a human can. And if machines ever do get that powerful, itwon't just be a threat to China, but basically everyone. Taiwan lets any Tom, Dick and Harry come in. I'm sure he'll be fine with his South African passport. Maybe I should write something to him on his Wechat he gave me like a year ago. Perhaps he needs some encouragement...
Luis Kelly
>Robots so far are nowhere near as capable as humans. So far, but for how long? >And if machines ever do get that powerful, itwon't just be a threat to China, but basically everyone. This is false, as the Chinese are willing to endure subhuman conditions that Americans are not, thus making it a race to the bottom instead of the top.
Jose Parker
I was pressured into voting for Al Gore during the 2000s after watching Jet Li's The One and seeing the alternate universe where Al Gore won the presidency and America's police weren't all doughnut munching lards of fat but instead fit, tall athletic not to mention highly intelligent enforcers of law and civility. But over the years I have come to really like the Bush family and now regret not having voted for George Bush Jr. instead of Al Gore (even though he opposed global warming which I agree with, if not just for the sake of my Japanese professor in college). They have proven to be the most China friendly White Americans to enter the political arena and know how to appease the sleeping dragon.
