With great power comes great responsibility

>With great power comes great responsibility.
This is nothing but slave morality, attempting to siphon power away from the people who've earned it, to the powerless.
The only responsibility powerful men have is to enrich their own lives, and if that includes rightfully subjugating the powerless then so be it.
The less worthy will always attempt to steal from the powerful, and they need to be put down and taught who their masters are like the filthy dogs they are.

OK Mongul

but parker dident earn his power it was an accident

Snyder, plz leave.

Ayn Rand pls

...

Rand was right. The less wealthy are evil ingrate parasites who steal mercilessly from the real producers and innovators who have made our worthless shit hole of a planet tolerable to live in. The socialist systems the west is suffering under today are nothing but pyramid schemes relying on eternally expanding population growth. It's all falling apart now, which is why Europe is importing millions of low IQ savages in a panic to save their sinking ship. The masses are mindless cattle who ride on the coattails of the accomplishments of a very few number of great men, and they imagine these accomplishments to be their own. Why would any rational human being allow the masses any say in the role or activities in government when they will always do nothing but vote the entire nation into utter ruin? We need a fascist dictatorship who advocate for a free market, we need a Pinochet to cleanse our countries of this genetically dysfunctional communist filth.

Alternatively, there are relatively good and bad people both with and without positions of power and the world's only absolute is that absolutes do not exist.

>Rand was right.

Rand was never right.

>slave
> siphon power away from the people who've earned it, to the powerless
You are just picking words at random, right?

...

>there are relatively good
AHAHAHAHAHA
>bad people
Yes. Bad people. People are not good. People are selfish.

...

Cant you go be a NEET somewhere else, like Sup Forums?

Please let Stan the Man take your energy away already Ditko

Fun fact: Stan Lee introduced Steve Ditko to Ayn Rand's books. Lee was fascinated by Rand and he wanted to share his impressions with Ditko. And then Ditko lost his mind.

He EARNED that field trip, dammit!

>hurr durr there was a single word you didn't use correctly
Alright then. Leech. They leech power. Better?

YEA RESPONSIBILITY'S COOL

BUT THERES MORE THINGS IN LIFE

>movie version
It was a walk in science fair. Any yokel could have got that bite

Aw come on user don't be so cynical

I'm not having a tantrum, I'm simply stating that uncle Ben was full of SHIT.

I was actually referring to Ultimate, but yeah.

>People are selfish.
YOU are selfish, and you want to feel morally justified in being so, therefore you naturally latch to objectivisim, the perfect philosophy for assholes.
All humans can be selfish, but all humans have the capacity to be altruistic too. It's just that you have decided that being selfish is a virtue because you don't care about helping other people.
Just like Ayn Rand, she hated charity.

"Responsibility is slavery" could be Spider-Man's "Hail Hydra"

>Less wealthy people leech off of wealthy people by accepting their paychecks and doing their jobs.

Ayn Rand was a cuck too

You don't want to be a cuck, do you user?

Getting bitten by a radioactive spider isn't really 'earning it'

True altruism doesn't exist. It's just a survival method in service of the selfish gene.

>Rand was right
Which is why tons of objectivist societies with no government have thrived! Oh wait.

I agree

>Inb4 blahh blahh charity is bad blahh blahh taking advantage of people's generosity

>A 14 year old's philosophy lesson
kek

>True altruism doesn't exist. It's just a survival method in service of the selfish gene.
How are people that sacrifice their own lives to save strangers servicing the selfish gene?

Ow, the edge

No faggot, they've used the power of the state to steal from the productive elements of society, ultimately making the entire world worse. They're shortsighted and don't deserve any say.

>The selfish gene
>selfish gene
>gene
>selfish

adhom

Gas the flatscans, gene war now

>Productive elements of society
So, the millions of working class across the country, from the inception of our government to today are not "the productive elements" because they're "not as wealthy".

Men sacrificing their lives in service of the group helps human genes survive and proliferate. What a stupid question, honestly.

I'd stay and sit you down for a nice chat, kid, but I'm busy. Guess we'll both have to be disappointed, eh?

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

Did they invent the underlying systems and technologies that fuel our societies? No, they're mindless workhorses, nothing more. Robots will soon replace those millions, and after that they can just die off like the useless pieces of meat they are.

So a healthy fertile young man dying to protect an infertile old woman helps human genes survive and proliferate.
Good to know.

Rand was right in that the poor can be evil and petty.

Rand was wrong in that the rich weren't all that as well.

Heh

>Kill them all, Peter

>and after that they can just die off like the useless pieces of meat they are.
OK, we've all had good laugh here, you can stop now.

What a silly extreme to go to. You sure proved Dawkins wrong with that hypothetical situation.

Sacrificing their lives for complete strangers, i.e. firefighters, first responders, SWAT, coalition soldiers, Red Cross, missionaries.

Slow down, bucko. You're trying too hard.

Not an argument.

Maybe not governments, but transnationals and bankers have.

Heh

You don't deserve an argument, you goofy loon.

I don't argue with mental cuckolds.

You don't see how those institutions helps society survive, and the humans within it to thrive and procreate? Seriously?

Why do we have to argue with a NEET over the internet?

Dawkins regrets calling the book 'The Selfish Gene' and wishes he had called it the Immortal Gene instead.

>inb4 not an argument

Not an argument. :^)

Nice reddit quote.

>checked
They're a silly little goon so I for one will give them their fifteen poss of fame.

What you describe defies the idea of greed in and of itself. Helping humans and helping them pass on their genes is not greed, who the hell taught you that. How do you benefit from a person being born after you die, in a different country, on a different continent.

It always baffled me how the heroes of Rand's novels were the actual most worthless people in their world, the kind of people who had no skills other than paying other people to do things for them. Like, she should at least have made them some type of impossible Tony Stark level supergeniuses who personally invented everything their company produces, but instead she just made them random rich people who would never survive a week without the help of the so-called "parasites".

John Galt did invent the magical infinite energy machine. But yeah, everyone else were just rich CEOs, plus a few oddballs like a trucker, a judge that hates the government and an Ayn Rand self-insert writer.

Found the mentally ill trust fund kid

Not to mention, many of the people saved don't even breed. How does dying to save an old lady help genes or whatever? Notice how that user dismissed it as an "extreme" because he knew he had no way of arguing further

I read both, Atlas Shrugged is an overwrought novella Rand probably stretched to a novel for royalties but Lord of the Rings taught me that some are inherently unable to create civilization, they can maintain some warped visage of it by consuming massive amounts of resources but should not be tolerated within any society.

>you need to be a trustfund baby to see parasites are taking everything and giving nothing
Go give more to Bernie.

Nietzche go back to combing your moustache

Randroid pls.
This is a sorry excuse for a Sup Forums discussion, you're not actually even talking about the movie, but about your own morals. Nobody should give a shit and you should take this to Sup Forums.

Except that statement isn't about siphoning power, and your reading of it suggests you are bound by slave morality yourself.

"Great power, great responsibility" is a reflection of the fact that the more powerful you are, the more consequences your actions have. It's also a statement of the fact that with great power, you are at a higher risk of adversely affecting your life through its misuse.

I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Great, here come the Trumpfags.
>some are inherently unable to create civilization
Like the Mexicans, amirite? Pathetic. Had you lived a hundred years ago, you'd blame the Jews instead for all your problems.

Not to be that guy, but Nietzsche advocated for enlightenment of the self but didn't necessarily advocate that an enlightened individual should actively work to harm the un-enlightened.

Aren't you a little too young to be posting here?

Nietzsche was a borderline psychopath whose ruthless philosophy of virtuous selfishness lead to his insanity.

Dawkins regrets everything he does because he's an obsessive sperg with little forsight to the obvious social reactions of his work.
Him finding something to perpetually complain or feel superior about in comparison to larger society is literally a driving character trait.

Anyhow think there's a bit of disconnect in that most people assume selfishness to assume 'true/total' selfishness. Instead of simple an extension of the old Bedouin saying "I against my brother, my brother and I against my cousin, and my cousin and I against the stranger" which results in a logicly expanding heirarchy radiating out to contain the entire human species.

This entire unconscious hierarchy is based upon genetic selfishness, but is not absolute, as memetic selfishness (shared cultures or ideas) may override it dependent on the individual's values (ex: on occasion a family may give up a member criminal, not out of fear of reprisal by the larger world, but out of rejection of the ideas that member's crime embodies.)

Gonna guess you got a solid B- on your book report.

How about you look at the people taking US welfare, getting US driver's licenses, getting put into US prisons and STILL calling parts of the southwestern US 'Mexico'

I'm half Hispanic and Korean, both my parents are immigrants and have bought guns recently because our city turned to a shithole becasue some cucked politicians turned it into a 'sanctuary city' forgetting that the constituency they are supposed to SERVE is not south of the fucking border or claim they are hispanic first and American second after three fucking generations of living here. You want to know why the US is getting stupider? Look at the fucking animals they think is better to cram into a highschool instead of a zoo.

That's not how genetics work. If selfless people die without passing on their genes, then their selfless genes don't propagate.

It's only "selfish" when you die for your own offspring, and even then we're abusing the definition of "selfish".

Lord of the Rings taught me that epic fantasy books with extremely deep lore actually make me fall asleep with boredom

Fucking hell these aren't even Ben's words. They never were. Instead of getting your autism triggered by dumb movies go read a fucking comic you filthy casual.

hobbit was always better tbhqhgyaft

>That's not how genetics work.
>their selfless genes

Why doesn't Mary Jane like me? I am the SUPREME gentleman!

Not an argument

I'll point out that only a society may determine what is 'Insane' one is only insane if mentally incompatible with the functioning within that society.

One example is schiztophrenics who put butter in the attic to 'appease the faries' or go into 'prophetic fits' are perfectly functional individuals in a society that strongly believes in magical values.

This makes insanity a meaningless charge when applied to post-societal philosophies.

KILL THEM ALL PETER.

With friends (at least former) like Richard Wagner, wouldn't you go insane? Either way, point conceded.

It's easy to blame your problems on Mexicans when you're half-Korean and most your friends are likely white anyways. The socio-economic problems of migrants are far more complex than just "hurr they're just born wrong durr" that people like you spout. Systemic cruelties suffered by minorities in America are not easily removed as long as people like you ally yourselves with the enemy.

>I'm not crazy!
>You are!

How does that make it not "true" altruism? The behavior evolved for practical reasons, but it's frequently exercised by people who literally gain nothing from it.

It can also be interpreted as the responsibility to use your power, rather than let it go to waste.

In many ways, a person with great wealth and personal power who does NOTHING with it and just rests on their laurels is worse than a person who has failed to achieve anything in the first place. The presumed 'lesser man' lacks the ability to do great things, but they waste few resources in the process and there is the potential excuse that they simply never had the resources or opportunity to reach their potential in the first place. Not everyone does, after all.

But if you have power or wealth, and you do fucking nothing with it, then you explicitly have the resources and opportunity to do something great and have personally chosen not to. This doesn't just impact you, resources are finite. You being powerful and wealthy means that, by opportunity cost, someone else is not. So soaking up wealth and sitting on it prevents others from using that wealth for useful things.

Now, this doesn't mean that what you should be doing is helping everyone else around you. That's obviously a valid use of your power, and one many people would appreciate, but funding your own private projects or investing into the development of new technologies are also good.

To put this back int he scope of spiderman, Peter with his spider powers has a power that no one else does. A perfectly normal person chosing not to go and fight Venom is understandable, they lack the power and skill to meaningfully impact that problem. But if Peter, with all of his power, makes the same choice to do nothing? That carries a much greater weight, because he actually CAN do something about it. The very act of inaction means letting people that could be saved die, and letting problems that could be stopped continue. This gives Peter a much greater personal responsibility over the outcome of the scenario than the vast majority of people, even if he never shows up to the fight.

Dont see you crying about Mexicans doing the same thing to Central Americans

Altruism is a behavior that was genetically selected for. It doesn't come from thin air.

>Systemic
>people like you ally yourselves with the enemy.
Next you're going to say "PoCs and queers are natural allies!" to iu

>Ayn Rand
>right

But user, you are crazy.

Meant for
