Storytiming: Midnight of the Soul #1 (by Howard Chaykin!) Island #8 (first story and minor art) Queen of Vampires #1 Bloke's Terrible Tomb of Terror #14 (first few stories) Injection #10 ...and maybe a surprise at the end.
>What is this?
Basically, a break from Big2 stuff and, potentially, an entry point to some series you might enjoy. All comics are fresh from the Win-O' and should encourage you to dip into stuff you might not usually read.
This is just a great first issue by writer/artist Howard Chaykin. Oozing with confidence on every page, with a cool little story. Definitely going to be following this.
This month's Island features some great off-the-wall art, and as usual the art is the main highlight and draw. The story (by Michael DeForge) in this issue is also weird yet straightforward enough to truly enhance the art.
Queen of Vampires is .... goddamn. As the cover implies, not safe for work (but not too gratuitous, I think: basically just nipples here and there, and "TV sex": lots of skin and some sex positions, but not genitals). Gory as hell. Surprisingly solid writing that had me gripped.

But this is definitely over-the-line.

I thought Chaykin was doing some Civil War thing? I think maybe dystopian state vs state stuff, not a historical piece

Apparently he still is. This is just something he's doing with Image before that. Divided States of Hysteria is slated for Winter 2016.
