Flick in set in the future

>flick in set in the future
>laser guns slightly burn the victims instead of punching holes in them

thats because the phasers are set to stun, not kill

>laser beam visibly moves from one point to another
>it isn't an instantaneous solid beam since photons travel at light speed

>the photons are in the visible light spectrum
>cause damage somehow

All scifi is fantasy garbage written by high school dropouts

>Future movie
>Neon lights
>Techno music
>Things written in Mandarin
>Everyone has weird clothes and/or bad hairstyles

>movie set on spaceship
>spaceship has gravity
>the engine makes sound in space
>traveling great distances at close to light speed causes no time dilation
>there is some impossible universal constant time that everyone seems to follow

But there is sound in space retard. Do you not hear any sounds when you hold your breath? Of course you do you fucking retard.

What

put me in the screenshot

>American "education"

I'm trying to establish your thought process. Something like..

>you can't breathe in space
>therefore...
>space...
>space is the same thing as not breathing
>if i stop breathing I'm in space

>set 30000 years in the future
>slavery isnt an extremely prevalent part of society

when will scifi writers get their heads out of their asses

What is time dilation?
Never did physics in school, am legitimately curious for a semi-short answer but not curious enough to look it up myself. Thanks in advance

any matter moving at a different velocity than you is subjected to more/less duration(time) than you. On Earth even planes experience slightly less 'duration' than you, though it is an almost immeasurably small amount

Once you get close to the speed of light though the time is pretty significant, especially if it is over years of the standard observer's time frame

the only thing that matters is frame of reference and relative velocity. just google it

Basically the speed of light must be constant, so the universe bends over backwards to ensure this. Everything else is flexible, so distances can change, the flow of time varies and so on.

Ok, cheers am reading up on it now

Light speed is constant for all observers. Think about that, it makes no sense but it's true.

If you're traveling 90% of the speed of light and your friend is traveling 100% the speed of light, the people watching you two will see you just behind your friend. But to you your friend will vanish because he's going light speed to everyone.

Thus your concept of time must have slowed down compared to everyone else because it will seem to you to take forever to reach the point in space everyone else can see you at.

>traveling 100% the speed of light
that is impossible

>film set in the future
>religion still exists in the developed world

Yes but it's for illustrative purposes. Simpler than saying its your headlights

>flick in set in the future
>PARTY ROCKERS IN THE HOUSE TONIGHT

>alien planet
>aliens have bepises

>flick set in the future
>anyone besides the top 1% has employment due to automation of almost every job in every sector
I'm pretty pessimistic about the future boys.

>traveling great distances at close to light speed causes no time dilation
Most sci-fi gets around this by stipulating that you don't travel through regular spacetime at close to, or over, the speed of light and thus relativity doesn't apply. The ones who do use relativistic space flight will put in time dilation.
