How do you do Elric justice?

it's too late

that's catchy as fuck to be honest

Let sleeping Dragon Emperors lie?

BUT JUST IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES
Wat

Is Geralt a rip off of Elric?
Also is The Book of the New Sun a good read for someone who typically dislikes fantasy (I know it's technically SF, but it's high fantasy styled)?

>Is Geralt a rip off of Elric?
Yes. Elric was translated in the same book that Sapkowski worked as a translator on and he admits to knowing about Elric.

If not an outright ripoff, there are definitely hints of Elric in there that Witcher fags will never admit to. But then again, Elric is in fucking EVERYTHING.

Even Japanese porn games.
alicesoft.wikia.com/wiki/Chaos
EVERYTHING

You can't, it would never fly in this age of SJew shitflinging and fedora tipping nonsense.

aren't these literally too old ?
even on wikipedia they have a shitty summary, for a what seems like tens of books they say almost noting about it

>Even Japanese porn games.
even in Berserk

Griffith is based on the boy from Death in Venice.

>aren't these literally too old ?
No. Everyone that pulled bits and pieces out of this made a fortune. If someone does it justice, it will work.
You tell me. The Japanese love Elric.

>Japanese love a canonically bishi elf who grapples day and night with MUH ANGST

Huh, how very surprising that isn't.

Only read the first Elric. Are the rest good?

Yes but Bane/Everything to do with the meeting of Zarozinia is the most basic of the stories.

Stormbringer however, is a true classic. One of the best works of fantasy fiction every published.

Did you like the first one? Moorcock is a very consistent writer, the rest are as good as the first.

The number of people who have ripped off Moorcock is pretty fucking long at this point.

I don't care what you say. Portrait in Ivory is a wankfest and Jesting with Chaos would have been unfit.
Stormbringer is deservedly praised..

why does fantasy always seem so generic as fuck?
it's like it could be made by a computer
>create a world with magic and sorcery based on medieval stuff
>make the protag have random adventures where it's a clusterfuck of things
>add more and more shit
>somehow people are supposed to keep being interested by the story

I mean, it's kinda of like in the Dark Tower... every new book has new concepts and new monster, new locations etc, up to the point where it'd be as good as if a random guy had thought of a random idea and put it on paper

Yes. Now read the rest. Then read Hawkmoon, Corum, the Cornelius Quartet and Dancers at the End of Time

I'm not sure that the most vanilla fantasy thing ever could be adapted.
I know it works with LOTR but that was a different time.
Now if you want to make a fantasy movie with no "twist" on the setting it'd probably flop

>"And, as far as I know, [Grant Morrison]'s the only bone of contention between me and Michael Moorcock. Michael Moorcock is a sweet sweet man – I believe he has only ever written one letter of complain to a publisher over the appropriation of his work, that was to DC Comics over Grant Morrison, so the only bone of contention between me and Michael Moorcock is which of us Grant Morrison is ripping off the most. I say that it’s Michael Moorcock, he says it’s me. We’ve nearly come to blows over it, but I’m reluctant to let it go that far, because, I’m probably more nimble than Moorcock – I’ve got a few years on him, I’m probably faster, but Moorcock is huge, he’s like a bear. He could just like take my arm off with one sweep of his paw, so we’ll let that go undecided for the moment."
What did Alan Moore mean by this?

The Corum books would make a better movie. The "swords" trilogy is already a trilogy with a coherent overarching narrative, the whole "reaching into the Lower Dimensions" and demon summoning stuff is very cinematic, and Corum himself is a much more relatable hero than Elric, who, to be perfectly fair, is a giant prick and an antihero.

>Portrait in Ivory

Never even heard of this one.

CHRIS

OWENS

>Elric
>Vanilla

Are you nuts? Even NOW, Elric and the EC are too out there for mainstream audiences. LOOK AT THIS

It's okay. It's just a short story where Elric meets a sculptor that asks to make a statue of him made out of dragon bone which is understandably, stirs emotions of Imryr/Melnibone. I don't particularly think much of it. There are better works.

I think he was implying that Moorcock is going to murder Morrison at some point. Then he'll move onto Games Workshop.

Corum is a more generic hero than Elric, at least in the first trilogy. He's the easiest to swallow other than Hawkmoon but Elric really is the best.

I seriously wonder how GW and Blizzard both haven't been sued into oblivion yet.

It's just that Moorcock never takes legal action. He's too nice a guy to do anything of import except when the plagiarism is egregious.

ayo niguh, where this from?

Has anyone here read The Night Land? It sounds interesting.

Why not Erekose

you could say this about anything ever in any universe

>wield stormbringer
>accidentally walk into izchak

Visually they are pretty alike, and there's a few similarities with their abilities and orgins, but they really don't come across as the same character

Elric is a wandering self exiled noble who hates himself. He's meant to be tragic figure.

Geralt is a self employed monster hunter and curse breaker. An anti hero, but only in the sense a Clint Eastwood in a fist full of dollars is. He gets Monies and fucks bitches.

They're really not the same at all.

As an anthology series.

Why was Moorcock so butthurt about Tolkien?

That essay is hilarious

I've read, it seemed to me that the real reason he disliked Tolkien was political. Moorcock is an anarchist, Tolkien a reactionary. The literaly criticism itself was just cover for that.

Every other fantasy writer he mentioned as superior to Tolkien, such as Terry Pratchett, Ursula K. Le Guin, Philip Pullman, M. John Harrison, China Miéville or J. K. Rowling, is a leftist.

I like many of these authors, btw, so I can't understand why people can get so butthurt about the politics of authors they read. And I fear that because of politics, Tolkien will one day be purged from popular culture, like Lovecraft is being now.

Because he was aware of what came before.
Too many fantasy fans and authors just go to Tolkien as a be all end all fantasy author, with a slight stop at C. S. Lewis at the very most.

The essential quality a fantasy or science fiction author requires is military service involving killing the enemy. Raves and rants will never change that.

Moorcock, Le Guin, Pratchett, Martin, et al. will never be on the level of Heinlein, Jordan, Tolkien, etc., no matter how much they kvetch.

>like Lovecraft is being now.
Yet failing. The harder they try to be all reactionary and selling themselves on either "not my idea of a racist romp" or "we wuz, he wasn't", the more it just serves to advertising him and causing a response by the people who defend him or call these people out for being the retards they truly are.

>check Gene Wolfe to see if he also served in the military
>"Wolfe dropped out during his junior year and subsequently was drafted to fight in the Korean War."

At last I truly see.

Yes, he is.

Thank you so much!

I am reading Elric and its good so far , but I dont know how an adaptation would work , If I ever became wealthy I would adapt "Book of the New Sun" but I would probably go broke

I'm so glad you posted this.

who should play Arioch? i'd like to see Gilbert Gottfried.

BLOW DA HORN, ELRIC! END DA WORLD ALREADY!

'cause Erekose was a negro.

Moorcock got up on stage with Hawkwind. that counts as a tour in Vietnam.

Sadly Tim Curry is a spazz now, he would have been perfect. Well, him or Christopher Lee ;_;
