Do you connect the islands by hand or is there some gis option?

Yep, by hand, though it's with a line tool, so it's pretty easy. As for the rest, I used to do borders and such by manually going at it with a brush tool, but lately I've found it's worlds easier to just fill in everything, then use the color select tool in GIMP.

I'm only in Canada for school, I wish there was a way to have my actual country and region flags without using a VPN or something. But at the same time I don't want others to lie about their location so I'm torn.

It's kinda the point of /flag/. In the OP there is a link to a plugin that allows you to select flags for your region. For example, if you live in Riyadh, you can make it so that when you post, next to your flag you will have the flag or seal of Riyadh.

If you install it, you will see that I have the USA flag, a California flag, a Sonoma County flag, and a Rohnert Park flag.

These are links to all of the regionals posted during a given time. Not necessarily a canon way to start your collection, but if you want to get things started quickly, then go here.

Basically the plugin is a way to expand flag collecting on Sup Forums from just nations to counties, municipalities, states, and cities.

We already have some posters who lie about their location (i.e. they live a county or two away from their set regional). If you're uncomfortable with labelling your real location then you can set it so only your province's flag shows (i.e. Manitoba) without cities or regions. Or you can just set yourself to a city that you like, or have lived in in the past.

I'd like to see your leaf regionals. It is quite lonely here as compared south of the border
