For some reason, the idea of Wall-E and EVE as humans bothers me. The movie emphasizes their robotic natures, and prominently features their mechanical parts.
Wall-E moves via treads, and EVE's head and arms float off her body. I dunno, it's just weird to have them as humans.

I think pretty much all non-human characters have at least one moment that emphasizes a non-human feature or trait.
If you think too hard about humanizations you just have to assume that those instances didn't occur or the story happened differently or something.
