Is it really just a money laundering scheme?

That explanation seems to make the most sense.

>Is it really just a money laundering scheme?
I think so, but some stuff is "cool" to look at, I guess. I mean, whatever though.

Yes. Especially in kinds of Minimalism. It says a lot that this work by a Joo was sold for tons of money (of course you only don't get it :)).

Probably. People are paying million of dollars for something basically a 4 year old can do, so you tell me

In a world where overgrown children make themselves heard, it's no wonder that child-tier art is considered valuable

CIA scam.

i really love tumblr

That pic give me creeps, is it painted with menstrual blood or something?

The art market is one of the most sleaziest dirty money and nepotism driven market you can ever imagine. In points of dirty money it is even worse than association football oligarchs (Abramovich, Glazer, ...) and porn industry. Sadly, the governments even subsidize them with tax money.

...

Both.

Some of it probably, but the greats of modern art are great for genuine reasons. I'd talk more about it but it's honestly a little difficult to explain this stuff to people without the full context of all of art history, because the internal forces that drive art is a lot more complex than how representational it is of physical and natural forms.

...

These images have secret messages in them.

So are you saying I can pretend to be a liberal and splash paint on a canvas and I can be wealthy?

who /turner/ here?

...

guess what? what you're feeling is what the artist intended. abstract expressionism like this often seeks to convey emotions with as little as possible. Two seemingly arbitrary colors makes you feel creeped out and think about menstrual blood. whether you like it or not it's doing something to you.

mainstream fag

>It's art, you wouldn't understand

Basically what you said.
We understand. We hate it because it's not art

the same thing happened in music and literature without the same kind of money changing hands, so no, it's just the decline of western culture

There is lots of interesting stuff in the modern and postmodern periods, it just cant be expected to be as beautiful and meaningful as the art that preceded it

...

>"I like shakespeare"
>f-fucking mainstream fag

I actually like this, true I can make something like that in 10 seconds in Photoshop but the physicality of the actual paint just draws me in.

...

Some days I dream of just having no values or self respect and just becoming a modern artist and scamming the rich.

youtube.com/watch?v=sN9iJCZ5Il8

the CIA has a lot of connections to modern art, they used the scene as a psyop against the soviets since like the 50's.

...

Art in general is just about the tastes of high class people who can drop money on anything and not put a dent in their finances. That's art that is bought and sold anyways.

Nobody was buying Van Gogh paintings when he did them, and the same is true of many other artists. The truth is that in the current sense, people have no idea what is actually original and good art and what is just pointless noise, because it takes that great artist to find it, nobody can just buy it.

Who here /Goya/? He is so patrician.

You guys like my painting? Hopefully I get into art school or who knows what I might do.

>Voice_of_Fire
>that time my hometown paid 2 million for this piece of shit three stripes
fuck

I made that on photoshop in about 10 minutes.

You will never find the hidden meaning.

Art has been a money laundering scheme for a very long time.

You need to have some knowledge to debate art. I had that attitude but after i had it in college, it all made more sense. The message is not always easy to get but it's always there and always inside a specific context when we talk about the big names. The rest is just the rest.

>So are you saying I can pretend to be a liberal and splash paint on a canvas and I can be wealthy?

This. Anyone know how I can become wealthy with my shitty art?

At least with that you can imagine what it is

I feel like refinancing my mortgage now

It's a turd in the middle of a putting green

Ceci est d'une qualité inférieure.

Modern art is for pretentious nu males who sit in Starbucks.

A pretty castle, but how useful is it? Do you have any devices that could be used to bake bread?

...

Who knew my neighbour's old truck was an artist?

I think it goes to back to soviet post modernism. The art was degraded in order to degrade the minds of the population

Know one thing, modern art is deeply attached to Commerce. In many cases you don't know if Art had inspired Commerce or vice versa.

Dadaism for example is told to be marketed by a company which sells "Dada" hair tonic.

Cubism was marketed by the Maggi firm, who sould their characteristic square-designed "Cube" products. Picasso himself even designed several Maggi firms.

Artists are pushed into god status and art is a "winner-take-all-market". The mystification of names like Matisse brings them only for money.

Simply don't believe the swindle. Modern art never was anything other than a way to make money, a way to replace folk customs and a way to demoralize and desensitize the people.

Yes.

It's depressing what qualifies as "deep" and "meaningful" these days.

>college
>trying to nail this art major girl
>she invites me to her performance art exhibition
>go
>she's on a stage in a giant cage thing
>in with her are a mirror and an armoire full of clothes
>she looks in the mirror, shakes her head, takes off her clothes (down to bare ass naked) and throws them in the floor
>gets new clothes from the armoire
>repeats this for 20 minutes until there's nothing left
>wild applause
>everyone saying "wow she really capture the struggle women and girls face with image" and whatever
>"that was such a deep experience"- some hoe
>after the show we got drunk and fugged but I never talked to her again

Oh look it's Pleb Central B)

Hi plebs.

This is retarded. You wouldn't say this about anything else.

>I don't understand mathematics, but I'm going to pretend I know more about it than mathematicians do.
>I don't know much about history, but I'm going to pretend I know more about it than historians do.
>I don't know much about physics, but I know that quantum physics isn't REAL physics!

Instead of dismissing something outright, you could keep an open mind and try to learn about it. But this is Sup Forums, so I'm probably asking too much.

>inb4 "lel kys joo XDDD"

Art is a weapon. It will manifest in reality by infiltrating our collective subconsciousness.

Ugly and degenerate art will create a society that falls apart. Beautiful art will makes us want to build a great civilization.

This is why Hitler destroyed modern art pieces. These are communist style strategies of destabilization.

Goya is great, and was no doubt shouted down by throngs of plebs for his degenerate modern art that didn't adhere to their stupid rigid standards of the day.

LET ME FINISH

i'm not saying you wouldn't understand, i'm just saying that it's a long story that most people don't bother to learn. What people don't realize is that modern art wasn't a sudden thing, it was naturally caused by a lot of ideas that slowly creeped into the art world into the 19th century thanks to industrialization, new ways to create art (like synthetic paint and new printing methods), western artists embracing african and asian arts, and a rejection of the monotony and irrelevance of classical art. Again, this shit takes forever to explain so I"m not going to, but i'm sure you could easily find an art history textbook or an online article that helps you through this. Artists naturally came to become modernists.

protip: there is no reason good art should require good technical skill. Good art can happen by accident, by luck, and through imperfections. What you made there looks kinda neat, even if you're purposefully did a botched job just to prove a point on an internet website.

...

There is a bastion of real Art fighting against this century old plague on the artistic world:

artrenewal.org/articles/2005/Abstract/Ross.php

Is that a minimalist pepe?

Goyim, I will tell you what is art and what is not. That is all.

To some degree I'm sure it is used for that, no doubt. Though I'm sure there are some rich assholes who think if they spend a fuckton of money on shit like this it makes them classy or whatever. I could see some new money chinks unironically buying this shit most definitely.

Wow cool theory about the god-like power of art!

Is that why Hitler destroyed Germany and himself? They were communist style strategies of destabilization? I agree that Hitler was exactly that.

>several Maggi firms
*Maggi products

Needs jpeg artifacts

I'm sure this is just some text blurred out and stretched in paint

>protip: there is no reason good art should require good technical skill.

>artfag and this is true
Also thanks, people call modern art what contemporary art is too often

but past that, art schools have become feel gooderys and have severely lowered standards
>art is culture
>>whatever just read glubb

It has its place in the art timeline, namely abstract expressionism, but yeah a lot of it is trash. American modernism in general can be very pleasant though, like Hopper and Crawford. Check out precisionism, good old American industrial/working art

Yes this is another characteristic of modern art: "Concepts" are more important than the actual art. But concepts are nothing more than a clever way to market something as more valuable than it actually is.

But math, history and physics are purely factual. (maybe less so for history since the winners write the history books).
It's more like eating food at a restaurant and calling it terrible then the chef coming along and saying "YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND IT!!".
Yeah I can't cook like a chef but I know when food tastes bad.

Also, le kyso joo XDDD.

Imagine what it took to make this and now look at art

this is actually very nice IMO

>but normies like yall dont know shit about composition and stroke

...

I could see that being a popular piece, the french would obviously want their flag hanging in their house.

Germany was being destabilized by communists. They always hit academia, media, arts first.

Yuri explains it:

youtube.com/watch?v=5gnpCqsXE8g

Look towards comics books or video game designs for worthwhile modern art.

What makes more sense:
>blobs and streaks of random colors, making no objective design, sells for thousands, sometimes millions of dollars
>(((embezzlers))) use private selections' secrecy and lack of oversight to launder millions of dollars. The best way of doing so: objectively worthless and trashy "art" as a front.

Modern ""art"" is the result of a CIA psyop campaign, this is common knowledge.

The fact that the joke is still going 25 years after the USSR collapsed is saying something about the effectiveness of subversion.

>this sculpture was made with technical skill and also is good art, therefore all good art requires technical skill
bad logic there buddy. Saul Steinberg wasn't a very technical artist but he was IMO one of the best artists of the 20th century because he found ways to use very simple line drawings to convey things much bigger.

Nice meme

Degenerate art is degenerate. Hirst got rich on a sick death cult of emperor's new clothes picked animals. LIke hundred million dollar auctions rich.

...

>protip: there is no reason good art should require good technical skill. Good art can happen by accident, by luck, and through imperfections. What you made there looks kinda neat, even if you're purposefully did a botched job just to prove a point on an internet website.

then you have degraded and devalued the word art to the point where it has essentially no meaning.

I don't know. I agree with the impressionist movement but I feel that this is just retarded now.

Actually I am pretty much convinced everyone is retarded. I really don't want to be alive anymore. I wish I could do something less than mediocre but I am learning that everyone is mediocre until they ain't

>picked
meant pickled. Anyway, Hirst's formaldehyde slaughterhouse is a disgrace. Some art...

>steinberg

Like this?

Point taken. And your preferences of food, like those of art, are subjective. But we know what food IS. The definition of "food" is a matter of fact. Same for art.

So you cannot say that a particular piece of art is "not art" just because you think it's shitty. Bad art =/= not art. Of course, the definition of art is unclear. But that's a debate that should be left to artists, who are more informed about their craft.

See stuff like this is neet. But its nothing that a graphics designer couldn't do

Art is a dialectical process. The art of today is the collective response of (mostly) liberals against traditional values and social norms of today. Now it's up to the right to respond- you can't just start aping romantic painters because you like them, because it won't work as a response. You have to respond directly, in a language they understand. Think of Sam Hydes comedy, or eary black metal (made to sound terrible intentionally to piss off people who liked bourgeois commercialized metal).

So whatcha gonna do, young conservative artist?

>Degenerate art is degenerate.
This, art that uses poop and pee, and accept openly to homosexuals, it is the pinnacle of degeneracy

>sometimes people prevaricate

wow, such meaning, very depth, wow.

don't be obtuse.

artrenewal.org/pages/livingartists.php

>subjective
>moral and artistic relativism.
>all can be untrue, so anything can be true

You just goofed.

The art world can be very political, almost always leftist

The CIA felt promoting abstract art was beneficial, since it was meaningless and didn't arouse leftist passions.

They were basically trying to drown out radicals in a sea of abstraction.
