WHEN YOU WALK AWAY

And it did, creatively speaking. Financially speaking, it was always going to be a success.

Maybe at first, but the more characters they crammed in the more fandoms they could cater to, which let them add more original characters, which made the plot retardedly complicated but also allowed more shipping and fag porn, which led to a lot of pathetically die hard fans.

That being said I have never played any of these games.

It is, weebs are the only one keeping it afloat

It just full of nonsense posturing

Concept was ok, execution was bad. Story was pretensious garbage. Gameplay mash buttons to win.

who looks at this and thinks "Man that's good"

also reading this in the Donald voice is the funniest thing ever.

Da hell?
Look just because kingdom hearts has a story that is confusing as shit doesn't mean it failed creatively. The plot does make sense if you can play all of the games.

That's a scanlation.

How do you figure? Take two established franchises that are beloved all across the world and combine them. This has worked hundreds of times before Kindgom Hearts and hundreds of times after.

>You'll never have a Warner Bros version with Bugs just fucking around

There is no reason why a game like this should be this complicated in plot.

Aqua is best girl

They don't really have a lot of universes, I don't think

Well it IS half-anime, so...

If anything the entire WB is all one Universe.

Kingdom Hearts 1 was just about a goofy kid who wanted to travel the world with his friends and ended up lost in a bunch of Disney universes trying to get back home. It worked and it was good.

Then they got retarded with the story with too many prequels and spin-offs that it became a retarded unconnected mess.

>taking two worlds with notably autistic fanbases and smooshing them together DeviantArt fanfic style.

How could it have possibly failed?

It only really got complicated around 358/2/BBS and went up to 11 when 3D came out and everyone was Xehanort.

The first was still great.

But yeah, I have to agree that the series got pants-on-head retarded with its timeline. The fact that you kind of needed to play Chain of Memories to understand the entire beginning of KH2 was already a big mistake; the fact that they've kept up with the confusing aspects (and gotten worse with it!) is no better.

When you get Tetsuya "Asses Melt When I Get My Belts" Nomura involved, there's no way we were going to get a simple story. Final Fantasy VIII was a warning, but we didn't listen.

This.

/thread

Was that an actual thing? Was there anyone here who went to that?

Sora wasnt a franchise before this game

The best part of KH1 was that it adapted the disney stories to the world they had created.

All subsequent games just use the disney worlds as dressing

YOU DONT HEAR ME SAY

OP here. I'm a huge fan of crossovers and I hate that I arrived so late to the KH world. I got 1.5 and I'm still playing through Final Mix and Unchained X. Having a pretty great time so far.

Can someone please vocaroo this in Donalds voice?

You're an idiot, or trying to look like an idiot, which just makes you more of an idiot.

This.

That first game wasn't too bad story wise, if a little basic, but it took a hard right turn straight up its own ass after that.

I don't get how you think it should have failed? It's got Disney and Square Enix, two companies whose failures still do better then 80% of their competition.

Doesn't it seem wierd that Disney and Square are vastly different and then they go ahead and do this? I mean, the whole idea was brought up on accident and as a joke, but here we are, 12 years later.

PLEEEEEEEASE OH BABY! Don't Go

I honestly thought it was Please Obey Me, don't go.
Dear Christ reading this in Donald's voice gives me a headache, how would he even pronounce some of these words?

Reminder that we were supposed to get a KH cartoon from Disney until Square axed it

Why?

They took the most popular animation company and smashed it together with one of the more revered video game studios and let a madman oversee the entire thing.

What resulted was pretty much the only thing that COULD have come about.

if space jam can work, anything can

But who was Xehanort?

Make sure to play 2 on Critical mode if you get 2.5, shit was some of the most fun i've ever had in an ARPG

It had Disney in it. It may have had a slight chance of flopping in America but as far as any Asian markets need be concerned the only risk they ran was being arrested for printing money.

It's certainly one of the wildest "things that don't go together at all officially crossing over" ideas I've ever seen, and what's absolutely insane is how good it turned out. The first time.

I fucking love kingdom hearts threads

Fucking 3 when?

Nope, Disney America expected it to be a total failure and that American Disney fans would see it as this hideous abomination. Disney execs have this aversion to crossovers most of the time. That's why Disney Infinity is built around the concept of a Toybox and that the characters aren't really crossing over because they're all toys or that the Disney Princesses aren't allowed to even look at each other.

>end of KH1
>super sad, bittersweet, bitch tears shed
>never play CoM, don't know what it's about
>get KH2 3 years later
>super stoked for a heartfelt story about Sora and Riku finding their way home
>kinda sorta get that, but with the anime faggotry turned up to 13
>heartfelt story takes a backseat to Disney Presents: Naruto
>still pretty fun though

The simple story of the first game was a huge contributing factor to the magic of it. I'm kind of sad that magic is gone.

I actually did have chain of memories and to be honest I couldn't tell you what the fuck it was about. I just remember using cards to attack.

The fact that anything CAN work doesn't mean you can reasonably expect that anything WILL. I can see the similarities though and why they work. Kingdom Hearts is a nostalgia simulator with action RPG fan cross appeal. The nostalgia simulation alone is enough to do well.

Explain the plot of this series to me.

Who wasn't Xehanort

Some boy really wants to fuck another boy and there's darkness and shit. Mickey Mouse Donald Duck and Goofy also play a role.

Yes, but who is this "Xion"?

Adding onto this, but who is Xeanohart?

Everyone is xehanort, and if they're not, they're sora

Yeah, I said I never played it but I actually did play Re:CoM later on and I couldn't tell you either. Some shit happens in a castle and some assholes take your memories for some reason and in your confusion you slaughter them all.

A lot of people hated the card mechanics, but I grew to like it. It felt like it gave you access to moves normally reserved for bosses and such, and being on your last bit of health during a boss and using your last few cards to pull off a winning sleight was deeply satisfying, even if everything up until that point was deeply frustrating.

...I don't think I'll ever play it again.

A boy and his friends are separated from each other several times because of a decades-old conflict over a source of infinite power.

Meanwhile, a guy tries to revive the conflict to gain the power, by becoming a lich.

Some old man repeatedly forces himself into young boys and you have to put a stop to it. With the help of beloved childhood characters, of course.

Opposite sex clone of Sora created as an experiment by one of the villain groups

The lich in

I thought it meant he was being too pushy with her but now I suspect he's literally giving her too many gifts.

This is the manga. In the game, he just says they can't meddle.

LATELY

Neither stories are that complicated. Even less so when you realize that the VAST majority of KH's playtime is "filler" Disney content, and the overarching story gets maybe 5-10 hours out of 30 hour+ games.

Anyone else hate the unrealistically idealized Twat Characters in KH? Oh Aqua is so unrealistically loyal and honorable to her beta male friends. And Kairi is such a waifu even though she forgot Sora existed. Pure shit. And don't even get me started on the bullshit about they being capable fighters.

Twats make terrible warriors and soldiers and cops, etc.

KH2's final boss sequence is still one of the best in gaming history.
>You and your best bud fighting it out against a furry
>He captures your character and you have to control your friend for a few moments
>You both participate in the climax of the Mansex
>You touch your friend's butt under the pretext of helping him walk

Ansem, who was actually Xehanort pretending to be Ansem, who was currently in extradimensional exile by the fake Ansem, who wasn't actually Xehanort at all but a guy possessed by the undead spirit of Xehanort. Xehanort, who was pretending to be Ansem, was also pretending to be several other characters, who at the end of the latest game are revealed to ALL be Xehanort simultaneously diagonally through the timeline.

Also, Olette is objectively the best waifu.

>I couldn't tell you what the fuck it was about
Sora & co. get lost in a castle where they're forced to re-enact the events of KH1.
There's a looming menace in the form of "if they keep exploring this castle, they're going to lose all their memories and get lost forever", but they keep going anyways because "we have to go deeper". The Organization 13 is teased but they don't do anything but exist.

TL;DR: Nothing of importance happens in CoM. It was made to sate Nintendrones who wanted to get into Kingdom Hearts but didn't want to buy a PS2.

>ansem is a furry

Wait, what?

A man, desperate for knowledge and power, seeks to fulfill an ancient prophecy regarding an ultimate battle between light and darkness. Several sets of youths and countless worlds are caught up in his schemes, with one, a boy named Sora, connecting the disparate groups and helping to foil his schemes across space and time. Also Mickey Mouse knows kung fu.

>organization 13 is teased but they don't do anything but exist

What the fuck are you talking about? Half of the organization is introduced and killed in that game.

I'll admit that I had more fun fighting Xemnas with Riku than fighting notAnsem in the first game. What a chore to end that game with.

A container for Sora's memories, essentially a "clone" that took the form of an aspect of his heart (the chick he wants to bone).

>Half of the organization is introduced and killed in that game
Well shit. The only Organization members I remember fighting were Axel and Lightning bitch.

He's wearing a cowsuit.

There was Axel, shield guy, lightning bitch, Yagami Light, someone with ice or something, and the homo with the flower scythe I remember off the top of my head.

>TL;DR: Nothing of importance happens in CoM. It was made to sate Nintendrones who wanted to get into Kingdom Hearts but didn't want to buy a PS2.
It helped to set up KH2. Really, COM and 358/2 Days would have been one game if the series had been made by a sane developer. They both are integral to understanding what happens in KH2.

Damn. I don't know how I could forget that many characters getting killed. Well I'll just have to replay CoM and get my facts straight.

Axel, Vexen, Larxene, Zexion, actually the earth guy with the tomahawk, and Marluxia (fuck you it's mar-lux-ee-a).

I'm hoping for a Warner Bros equivalent.

"You're Xehanort! He's Xehonort! I"M Xehanort!
Are there any other Xehanorts I should know about?"
"Meow"

shit now i wanna replay kh1 again

>think chain of memories is some weird spinoff game
>get 2
>learn that it wasn't
Who the fuck decided that every single game in the series except re:coded should be necessary to understand the plot?

Who here /consoleonly/

The idea that the stories you knew were worlds and their stories got interrupted by this big event was amazing.

You show up and the story still goes on, even with you and Heartless. Even Beast is drawn to Belle across worlds.

The 2nd...... just.... couldn't follow this I guess? Its really too bad, it was amazing the first time around.

I had Chain of Memories for the GB, but I didn't even get half way through it. I don't think I'm going to bother with 3. These games were great when I was a kid, but I'm not a kid anymore.

Eh, you might as well. Even if you don't give a shit about the story anymore (understandable), the gameplay's still solid, and there's nothing hatable about the series.

Or you could go play FFXV. That too.

Another big thing was level design. With one you could see chests and door ways that you could access the first time through, and had to go back for them once you got newer abilities further in the game. 2, kinda had that? It just didn't seem as cool though. I think Pan's floating ability was a big part of that. Who didn't enjoy climbing as high as you in any given world and just floating all the way to the ground?

2.8 Aqua is looking good and I'm okay with that

>implying xion is a girl

Backtracking was huge for games of that era. It saved data and time to use the same area again with different enemies 1 and 2 had lots of backtracking and re-using. 2 does it very purposefully making the story have you revisit all the worlds with new events and buffed enemies.

Why is there so little porn of Aqua? Everyone loves her

>Start a thread about the concept of Kingdom Hearts
>Immediately derails to some deep lore that will just spoil the crap out of me
>Sup Forums just being Sup Forums
Well.

Everyone is Sora, Everyone is Xehanort, Darkness.

youtu.be/P41mQfi40fg

The series is almost 15 years old now user. Get with it.

See All KH threads end up like this.
Also, NamiƄe is best girl.

Second this.

I remember seeing the first screenshots for this and thinking it looked stupid, Donald and Aladdin shovelware.

But then I saw one picture and it was Jack fucking Skeleton. This was before that movie had any sort of real recognition, blew my mind.

*grabs you by the throat*

DANCE WATER DANCE

In conception, you should've failed

Great comeback, friend. Have a (you)

Which characters are Xenoharrt?
