Which one would you want to be your captain on a 12 years long deep space mission?

Which one would you want to be your captain on a 12 years long deep space mission?

If you don't choose Kirk you are a faggot.

Which captain would be the least opposed to me killing myself?

im sure hes the most likely to get you killed

Probably Sisko

Picard. Because he's the best Captain.

Archer. The missions would be the most interesting and he is the least pacifist of them all, including bringing military on board to fight. He retrofitted his ship three times in less than 4 years as he ended up fighting more and more.

Klingons, Romulans, Orions, Borg, Xindi, Vulcans, Andorians, tellarites. Who didn't Archer fight. Suliban. Three random marauder species in the first years, elachi. Every day was a new battle somewhere in Alpha quadrant. He even jokes about it in Home, "You'll spend a great deal of time, boldly going into battle. "

Kirk seems to increase your chances of death.

Have you ever watched an episode of TOS. Its one twilight zone tier nightmare after another.
Janeway objectively has the fewest deaths on her ship, so I'd go with her.

I'd like the middle one to bury his 12 light-years long captain deep in my space, if you know what I mean.

...right

The answer is always Picard!

Most wasted favourite actor in a fucking sequel that screws continuity…

ENT doesn't exist for me

The ECH any day.

Kirk
>Pro: Quick promotions due to all the KIA
>Con: Kirk gets all the good alien tail

Picard
>Pro: Get in, do your service, get out
>Con: Every three weeks Q turns you into a barnyard animal for a laff

Sisko
>Pro: Station life rocks. There are bars, shops, and sketchy alien holodecks free from judgy Federation restrictions
>Con: 77% chance that you're the only human being on board, and everyone else is a changeling

Janeway
>Pro: Hottest crewmembers
>Con: If you're not half-Borg or a Hologram, you literally don't matter

Archer
>Pro: In the mirror universe you're awesome
>Con: In the regular universe you're kind of lame, no matter how hard you try or how many times you try to shift dynamics. Also wtf is up with the temporal cold war?

I don't feel it was wasted at all, I feel it got cut short as it was gaining it's legs, missing out on shran, season 5, earth-romulan war, quite a few other things but I don't feel we missed out. I feel like they couldn't give a definitive voice to archer because they weren't sure of the other actors in terms of chewing scenery so they made him kind of the be all kind of guy and when you're writing an ensemble cast, definitive traits help give them a character 'voice' and you see that in Terra Prime/Demons, except they needed to establish those qualities back in season fucking 1.

Hoshi needed to go from shy/scared, to growing into her own in very first season. You needed Archer being intuitive and guy everyone can come to, but also hard nosed space commander when world goes to shit and torpedoes start flying. You need reed with his stiff upper british-ness, but kind of funny and being guy figures things out, in a lot of ways, Trip/T'pol get that early on and throughout but other mains suffer, especially mayweather. The doc was easily most interesting by his traits alone, and held things in a way that made him stand out and he has already seen so much makes him steady in every scene. You needed more ethical dilemmas for him to round out his character and show he had preconceived biases that he needed to work on, that is a very trek theme.

That kind of stuff.

Deepends, If I'm stuck on the ship, Picard. If I'm on the explore team, Kirk

TCW was the meddling of the studios with the producers to cram something in post 911.

Basically a "You put that in or we fuck you to oblivion"

Kirk was best, but I'd choose TNG for the holodecks

Captain
Jean-Luc Picard

Enter-prise

Picard for maximum comfy.

Sure, every once in a while we'll be boarded by borg or Q will stop by and fuck some shit up, or we'll get into a spat with some cardassians or romulans. But man, I would love to just be like some low level ensign, doing some work in the jeffries tubes (i'd ask the computer to play some light classical music in the background while I work) at the end of my shift I check in with Geordie and let him know the phase inducers or whatever have been improved with a 13% increase in efficiency. He'd give me a pat on the back and tell me to take the rest of the night off. I'd go hang out on the beach in the holodeck for a few hours, get cleaned up, head to ten forward and flirt with some fresh out of the academy young ensigns, trade some bants with the science nerds, and then head off to my big ass comfy quarters, replicate some crab legs and watch some classical tv and films like family guy and infinity war part 2 before I fell asleep.

kek

I agree with the giving the voice for Archer, but they neglected the cast. Mayweather for instance, you could place a random ensign and it wouldn't make a difference.

Basically, they tried to find themselfs for 3 seasons without definite getting the tread until someone like Manny Coto, who knows Trek back and forth start making it Star Trek. Which was too late.

And in terms of being a captain with authority - Archer sucks donkey balls - Even the captain of the Kelvin (and I don't like the reboots) has oozed more presence and competence in the first 30 min. than Archer in the whole 4 season.

Picars, DS9 is my favourite ST but there's no way to know if Sisko would be a good in an actual Trek situation.

Kirk would most likely get me killed and Janeway would probably turn me into coffee.

Picard.
Unless it's a movie you have better chances.

Kirk loses people so much by season 3 is barely fazed by it while in the first season he went autistic all the time someone died.

Sisko causes wars and hangs up with war criminals so no.

Janeway will probably have you replaced with a quantum clone

Picard. Every other choice is for animals.

>If you're a security officer or lower you're a literal human shield, after you die your bosses will take all the glory for a successful mission
>Transporters kill you and replace you with copy; if you refuse to go in one you'll be reprimanded and called a pussy
>the only source of entertainment is the holodeck which is prone to accidentally create self aware programs or trap you inside, also your history is logged so everyone knows about your loli sleepover party

No thanks, I think I'll save up credits and buy an intergalactic greyhound ticket to a galaxy far far away.

>Wanting to be fused with neelix
Janeway made the right call in shutting nonsense down.
Even if you do die you get replaced by a parallel universe doppelganger, or raised from the dead as a sexy ass space ayy lmao, or a weird lifeform that mimics your entire ship and has its own adventures.
Plus more holodeck time allowed than any other ship in starfleet.

Janeway girl for sex obviously.

>if you refuse to go in one you'll be reprimanded and called a pussy

when did this ever happen? They always seemed happy to accomodate people who would rather shuttle to and from planets

Unironicaly The Sisko

Kirk and Picard are tied for #1, but Picard would have a much more advanced understanding of science given that he's from 100 years further into the future, so I pick him.

Enjoy getting scammed by shady visitors on the promenade, overpriced beers at Quark's, weird bajoran holy people vandalizing the station (including literal terrorist attacks), getting randomly stabbed in the corridor by angry klingons that lost at the dabo table, sisko losing control of the station to old cardassian security systems, jem'hadar boarding and killing you as you try to escape

but it'd be cool to hang out with o'brien and bashir so... maybe

Picard
Archer
Janeway
Kirk
Sisko

Sisko did everything to stop Worf's brother from suicide.

This

100% Success record, 0 Casualties, Know for Major victory accomplished by pure style
He's better at being pic related than pic related in a way.

>gets you killed
>women will only have eyes for Kirk and you have to make do with Sulu

On the other hand with Picard:
>extremely protective of his crew and always tries to solve shit peacefully
>bald, so no women cares about him
>access to sex sims on the holodeck

>And in terms of being a captain with authority - Archer sucks donkey balls
Thats kind of the point of Enterprise as a whole. Hes not the superconfident and self assured captains from the rest of the franchise because he doesnt have the benefit of the tradition he's helping to establish as absolutely necessary by virtue of stumbling through every encounter and falling ass first into a solution.
Theres a good character arc with him across 4 seasons growing into his role. Would have been cool to see how the mind meld with sarak tempered him with more patience and wisdom as he spearheads the federation and has to constantly save it from itself.
I agree the rest of the cast was underutilized and underdeveloped. Every time they give mayweather something to do I genuinely liked the character. A spacer helmsman is a good sci fi character, and works well in the kind of story the show was telling.
But trip gets plenty to do, and t'pol has vulcan stuff and learning about humans. Phlox is best doc, and I would watch a Phlox M.D. show.

>bald, so no women cares about him
>Implying space bitches didn't get sloppy wet over bald men
>Enjoy not getting that bolean pussy

Honestly, if you're going with the best place to get laid you'd much rather be in DS9, at Picard's you may not be competing with him, but you have Riker nailing everything in sight.

Bolians love hair

Sisko. He seem most mentally stable.

>but you have Riker nailing everything in sight.
just as planned

>but it'd be cool to hang out with o'brien and bashir so... maybe
Precisely

>TCW was the meddling of the studios with the producers to cram something in post 911.
The temporal cold war is introduced in the pilot, which aired in the middle of september, 2001.
The xindi arc is >muh towers, but still manages to do a season of voyager better than voyager did.

>hanging with cucks
>cool

>cucks
One is happily married to an Asian chick he BLEACHED and the other fucks everything with a hole.

Remember when that ensign who gets assassinated in season 7 asks to come with them on the holodeck they get super weird about it.
You could put a baby in keiko though.

Unrelated, but where should I start watching Star Trek for the first time? TOS?

they are still emotional cucks

How so?

watch the show

Picard solely because he's the only series I watched.

TOS is hard to rec as the entry point. Its the patrician's choice, but the production value and campiness could turn off a lot of people.
Start with the TOS movies. TMP is good, but a lot of people hate it. If you start with wrath of khan you'll be fine. Watch them, start with TNG then DS9 then if youre still invested VOY and ENT.
Ignore the TNG movies, watch galaxy quest instead.
If you're into it do yourself a favor and watch TOS at some point.

It would help to know what "emotional cuck" is supposed to mean.
It's not like you can raise the emotions of another man.

Ill be sitting right there next to you in my blue and black jammies. Just spend everyday going over science and sensor logs the entire shift and maybe catching some anomaly that I can bring to.... I don't know is Data technically the chief science officer on the D? I guess Ill bring to him. He'll know who needs to see it I bet. Then yeah off to Ten Forward to get a few drinks and see who's around to bs with.
In the few scenarios where I may actually be called on in a red alert or emergency situation I've got one of those puny hand phasers Capt Picard had. They won't even want me to help fight.
Enterprise D life is where it's at. Just gotta save some leave for when we deal with that ribbon nonsense.
And forget about the E.

>wants to be in the uniform for betas

They're fucking eachother. They're reverse cucking rom's wife and keiko.

He found out after Dax screwed it up. Then he yelled at Worf and Dax.
Thats all he did.

Sisko and it's not even a close contest. With him you get to live on a massive comfy station with tons of interesting people, and there is always going to be shit tons of new people coming and going so you don't get bored of the same old people over and over, yet the actual starfleet people will be there for a long time so you can still make good friends as well. Also you can go to bajor and shit for shore leave and be on an actual planet instead of some shit holodeck.

>Crusher and Troi were commanders
>All you need to pass the bridge officer exam is to be willing to order people to their death
Its a fast track. Enjoy surviving to lieutenant in a red or gold shirt, asshole.

Picard, no question.

Yeah you'd really have to follow starfleet protocol and shit but you wouldn't feel like it was out of rote devotion to the text.
Picard would instill a sense of respect for the very best of the Federation and Starfleet in you while pushing you to succeed/rank up.
>paraphrasing red shirt worf: "the captain wants his junior officers to be always learning"

Plus you know hes not going to just throw your life away for some dumbass shit - and if push comes to shove, he'll absolutely throw hands with whatever hostile ayylmaos come around to get you home safe.

>Janeway
So rigid in the prime directive that she fucked her entire crew repeatedly for a decade. Likely to sell you into slavery if it avoided a PD violation.
>TOS Kirk
If you dont work on the bridge your life is entirely disposable to him so long as muh risk vs reward
>Sisko
the man has real issues with past trauma, believes himself to be the emissary of god-like beings *and* acts accordingly, doesnt seem to do much in terms of mentoring, building officers up etc.
>Archer
Do what I say or get fucked, I'm always right because I'm the Captain. (Plus 12 years on an NX vessel would be hell)

Picard is the only good choice for a young officer.

Have fun in your red or gold uniform then. They expect you to do shit.

Troy had years of experience on the bridge and was fucking the first officer.
Crusher was one of the most well respected doctors in the federation and was fucking the captain.

Oh No!!! Don't you skip First Contact!

>The ship takes damage
>it doesn't magically get fixed
>it has damage shown to be repaired over multiple episodes
>shit going wrong with the ship as they try to patch it together
>Trip basically dies trying to give them a new advantage against the xindi

The entire third season has more consequences for the crew and ship than all the other series combined because it doesn't hand wave away the losses, it counts all of them till very end. It is completely unique in the universes history.

They expect it out of blue uniforms too.
But I'll be in my gold uniform playing poker with Data and Geordi, sharing holoporn programs with Barclay, and work on engines to the sweet hum of the warp core.

First Contact is shit

This guy. His ship was the most fun.

Ill be hanging out with all the hot nurses and science girls then.
>sharing holoporn with Barclay
If you want to i guess

>Con: Kirk gets all the good alien tail

Tourist detected.

Do you how hard it is to program a horny Troi just right? That's like thousands of lines of BASIC.

Riker

engineers get the best qts

Troi first starts thinking about Commander cert after that incident where Picard ends up trapped in the turbolift with the kids.
She was seconds away from having to make an executive decision that might or might not kill hundreds on the ship - in order to guarantee saving the rest.

After that, (and probably combined with years of just being beside Picard and Riker) she seems to have really taken an interest in command - which is shocking desu because her character seemed way more likely to never want to be put in that situation ever again.

Crusher gets commander rank for being chief medical officer, comes with the job as a bonus. But she does know how to lead people (somewhat) because as chief surgeon etc. you have to be able to manage people in a crisis and make tough calls.

All in all they are definitely exceptions to the rule. It does make more sense that Red and Gold would be better suited to command tracks overall.

>Fuck new galaxies, let's explore new sex practices on Risa instead

I think he did pretty great for what he was given. And to people that complain he is a my way or highway kind of guy..so are a lot of commanders, to the point in universe they usually just try to convince him until he either see's the light or when he was brainwashed, mutiny, and save him from himself.

Even Picard can't manage it to command in a blue uniform.

>Crusher gets commander rank for being chief medical officer, comes with the job as a bonus.

>lieutenant, i cant patch up your penis with these tools
>i prescribe a footjob administered by me, and thats an order.

>Troy had years of experience on the bridge
Go to ben Diana. You sat next to the captain, tried not to look bored, and offered insight like "the romulans are hiding something."
NO SHIT BITCH! THATS WHAT THEY DO! DON'T TELL ME, THE KLINGONS ARE ANGRY?

>Captain
Picard
>Engineer
O'Brien
>Doctor
EMH
>Security
Odo
>Science
Data

Bashir was a lieutenant.
Bones was a lieutenant commander.

Kirk, since I'd be in a ship with Spock and I always wanted to experience a Vulcan pon farr

Kirk, obviously

Everybody hates on that one but as a kid I loved it.

Thinking archer is more militant than ill make planets uninhabitable to get one man sisko.

Bashir is the era-relevant comparison.

If you're CMO of the flagship on deep space exploration, you realistically cant be less than a commander. If you have to relieve the captain of command or force a quarantine to kill crew members, nobody is going to follow some lieutenant with an MD.

But, she was apparently super skilled (while Polaski is on the ship its because Crusher is teaching medicine at SFA) so maybe it was 50/50 merit and assigned-rank.

He only made it uninhabitable to humans
Archer killed millions

DS9 isn't great for comparison either.
It wasn't a ship and it wasn't Federation property.

/trek/ is always the comfiest thread in the catalog

True, im sure the command structure was super fucked up. I just figured if you were going to compare doctors it made more sense to use Bashir and ignore Bones since who knows to what degree Starfleet has evolved in those (75?) years.

Picard or Janeway, not even a contest really. I want to come back alive.

Doesn't matter actually since a CMO's authority isn't based on rank and supersedes even the captain's orders.

Didn't Crusher explain why she got her commander rights when Troi asked her in one episode? I guess it was just a personal choice and nothing required by regulations

I started with TNG

She'd have had the most if the events of Year of Hell hadn't been retracted by some time fuckery. I wouldn't say it's fair to count any movies either because some captains don't have them and they account for a lot of deaths.

TNG would be allright. Then I would go for TOS.

You don't even have to watch TNG in order, or wath all episodes for that matter. Look for a ranking of best episodes and start with that. Most are autoconclusive, and the show doesn't have a spoiler effect.

Which is exactly the reason you want to be aboard the USS ResetButton.

Capt. Jonathan Archer, he seems like a true bro.
