What is the solution to I-66? It's one of the worst drives in the world. The 24/7 traffic is obscene. The HOV restrictions are a joke. Fuck Arlington for blocking expansion inside the beltway. But even outside the beltway, it's fucked.

What's the solution? Can they build it up to double or triple-deck to add more lanes without expansion? It seriously needs probably 12-16 lanes.

BUMP how do we fix this shit?

The Worst Damn Freeways in America

I-66 in Northern Virginia and Washington D.C.
1-10 in New Orleans, Louisiana
The 610 Loop in Houston, Texas
The 405 in Los Angeles, California
1-70 in Denver, Colorado
I-635/LBJ in Dallas, Texas
I-35 in Austin, Texas
I-80 in San Francisco, California
I-880 in San Jose, California
I-376/Parkway East in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
I-76/Schuylkill Expressway in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
I-95 and I-195 in Providence, Rhode Island

>I-66 is backed up an average of 7 hours and 15 minutes each day. That’s second only to the 405 in Los Angeles, which is congested 8 hours 27 minutes a day on average.

BUMP we need to fix it!

Nobody cares

Ride the train or the metro, nigga

>every single one in a major city

gee, why is there so much traffic?

How is adding more lanes going to fix it?

The problem isn't that there's not enough space for the cars, the problem is that the flow is causing cars to back up.

You need bypasses and new roads to give people more ways to get to where they're going rather than being funnelled down one road.

Move to Maryland, faggot.

The Chinese have a solution.

>costal state

Not my problem. Maybe if you blame "flyover rednecks" a few more times your problems will be solved!

>the metro

Now I know you're joking.

Because everyone and their mother has a car and use it to drive as close as 4 blocks away?

>1-70 in Denver, Colorado

I-25 is infinitely worse than I-70.

Said no one ever. Fuck your communist nig nog shit hole.

More lanes reduces congestion dummy.

What the fuck does this have to do with anything?

Ride the metro he says

>Have important meeting at 8am. Takes 23 minutes to get from Van Dorn to Foggy Bottom

Okay, i"ll take the 6:45 train just to be professional.

>Nigger comes on "SORRY YALL TRACK DELAYED 10 MINUTES"

Finally get on train. Can't even stand it's so packed with people.

Get stopped at King Street

>SORRY YALL WE'RE ON SINGLE TRACK FOR MAINTENANCE

Get delayed at Arlington

>SORRY YALL SOMEONE KILLED DEMSELVES ON DUH TRACK AGAIN.

Every. Fucking. Day.

Oh, and lets not forget it takes 5 dollars to park, and 12 dollars for a round-trip peak ticket. That's 17 dollars a day just to be incredibly inconvenienced. I actually PREFER taking the 395 and paying for parking in the city just so I'm not surrounded by smelly niggers

>More lanes reduces congestion
How?

Unless you have a lane for each car you're still going to get everyone choked up when 400 people per minute try to take a single offramp.

self driving cars and mandatory car pooling

This map looks like a giant vagina being penetrated by a finger.

Digits confirm, metro is the worst, most corrupt piece of shit organization. It's 99% black workers and they are all incompetent.

>mandatory car pooling

lol wut

Move away from DC?

...

Not an argument.

>More lanes reduces congestion dummy.

very false

plenty of research disproving this, lots of money spent by politicians on widening, despite the evidence saying it's pointless once you hit a certain loading

it's a political tool to make a state or local member look as if they're doing something meaningful

>Get stopped at KANGZ street

Couple nukes during WW3.

It's useless for large cities, but it is a godsend in small cities/big towns.

t. Main highway going through my town just got widened from 2 lanes to 3 and its noticeably better

wtf I hate lanes now

Let's just make everything one lane then.

a virginian complaining about his highway system? you have the best highways on the east coast. like all states more niggers in more vehicles = more problems

Virginia has the best highways, yes, with the EXCEPTION of I-66. It's the fucker liberals in Arlington.

Lol sure maybe it's useless after a certain load of cars but protip:

Most towns don't have that load of cars

It's been proven that if you destroy the roads that there will be no traffic.

Let's build walls on freeways. It'll solve the traffic problem once and for all.

true, though once you've reached a population large enough to need extensive public transport systems, you're probably well past the point where adding lanes is still helpful, generally speaking.

the two solutions that will save us from congestion are increased use of bikes/scooters/etc and bus rapid transit systems, which are separate or semi-separate road networks to publicly accessible roads.

the hour-long commute to work is showing no signs of slowing down in many cities.

lol this nigga

Does Australia even have traffic? You dummies don't even drive on the right side of the road.

>mandatory
of course, Kirchner socialism on its finest

>I-635 in Dallas

If they reviewed this list recently it probably wouldnt be on here. They added 4 express lanes below ground level and finished the High5, which was the major slowing point. Runs pretty smoothly now.

Fuck that's nice. That's what I-66 needs. Fucking only two lanes inside the beltway, just think about that.

IT'S 5776 COME ON NOW

our major highway (yes, singular), running almost the entire length of the populated section of the east coast of the continent, is 40kmh (25mph) in some areas, and plastered with speed cameras.

Holy fuck man sounds like a hell hole. Probably have to deal with wild abbo crossings too.

Then again, it's not like yall actually have any people so it's probably okay.

These are the cities with the worst traffic.

1. Washington DC-VA-MD
> Annual hours lost per commuter: 82
> Total annual hours of delay: 204.4 million
> Annual cost per commuter: $1,834
> Total congestion cost: $4.6 billion

Washington D.C. commuters waste more time in traffic than residents of any other city. A typical area commuter spends an additional 82 hours behind the wheel each year due to traffic delays. As in most traffic-plagued cities, drivers in the nation’s capital spent less than half that time in traffic in 1982. Like some other congested cities, the Washington D.C. area’s population also tends to use public transit. In 2013, 16.5% of workers used public transportation, the third highest share nationwide. Given the estimated annual costs of sitting in traffic, this is not particularly surprising. Excess fuel consumed and lost productivity due to congestion cost each commuter $1,834 per year on average, the highest such cost among all U.S. cities reviewed.

2. Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA
> Annual hours lost per commuter: 80
> Total annual hours of delay: 622.5 million
> Annual cost per commuter: $1,711
> Total congestion cost: $13.3 billion

US-101 south and northbound, and I-10 eastbound — all in the Los Angeles area — led the nation’s most congested corridors. Half of the 20 worst roads for traffic are in Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim. A typical Los Angeles area commuter spends an estimated additional 80 hours in traffic per year due to delays, slightly less than auto commuters in Washington D.C. However, traffic conditions are more unpredictable in the LA area, which may cause more stress even than in the D.C. area. The area’s traffic system is congested nearly eight hours during a typical day, the longest rush hour compared with other U.S. cities.

Except how they fucked 95 up from stafford to 495 with the hotlanes

The Aussie is right. 401 highway is a good example of this.

Get rid of HOV lanes. They don't do anything besides waste a lane.

40kmh!? Why the fuck does a major highway going around the country have such a low speed limit? You'd think it would be minimum 80kmh.

a decent portion of it reduces to two lane roads, and the national highway/highway 1 (runs around the entire country) turns into a one lane dirt road at some points.

it's just something to do with our population, we have practically no people in most areas of the country when compared to places like sydney or melbourne.

hell there's a highway through the northern territory that has no speed limit, and people go 250 kmh down that.

All of this will be fixed by free market innovations as the driverless car continues to pick up steam. Patience

it's only 40km in school zones and nowhere else it's 60km through built up areas and 100km unless otherwise sighned

I missed that golden opportunity didnt I
