Why did he want to do that though? It's not like the Empire hadn't industrialised and it actually did pretty well for itself in the wars. Dunno why it wasn't kicked back into Anatolia but you can't have everything I guess.
And yes Turkey is a modern country but its pretty mental around there so its never going to be super good. The reality was that all it had to do post WWII was not become communist and it was going to be fine.

Not the guy you're replying to but Ataturk wanted a modern secular republic and a monarchy which possibly could rebel and revert the country back.
