Why do you faggots talk about them like they are the Holy Grail of "adult" comics? Love & Rockets is good, but everything else i've read is either edgy shit like Furry Trap and Prison Pit or pretentious garbage like Daniel Clowes. Am i missing something? Do i need an elitist member card?

What are you going on about? Most of Sup Forums thinks they're pretentious as fuck.

Most of Sup Forums have no opinion on them.

Huh. Maybe i just read the posts of a samefag.

I mean the part Sup Forums that would know enough to know them.

I think I had a run in with that user actually.

Fantagraphics is like any other publisher, they put out good works, boring comics, and absolute shit.

Really, most of the comics I own that have been Fantagraphics are all love and rockets related, then I own some Woodring books, some Hanselmann books, Sacred Heart, and some manga they've put out (Nijigahara Holograph, some hentai manga from their EROS line)

I like Fanta for it's diverse selection though and the people that work at the publisher seem pretty chill from what I've read and listened to online.

I'd probably jerk off Image before Fanta despite L&R being my favorite comic series.

The "superheroes are shit, go read some fantagraphics" guy?

>Implying Prison Pit isn’t great shit
They publish L&R, Barks and Rosa collections, the good Mickey comics, and Jim Woodring’s stuff. They’re fine by me. They do publish shit too, like any other publisher.

Don't know if its the same guy, but I was in a thread where we were tiering publishers, and we listed Fantagraphics as hipster tier and some guy lost his mind.

Dan clowes is pretty much L&R tier when it comes to writing quality, especially eightball

...

>everything is edgy or pretentious
Maybe you're not paying enough attention?

Which category is this, pretentious or edgy?

Go read Peter Bagge's HATE right fucking now.

Oh shit, I've read that comic. That's where Pepe is from. It was storytimed somewhere a while back, either on here or /r9k/.

Pretentious? No. Edgy? Not often. Hilarious? Yes.

>everything else I'VE read
Were you paying attention? Are you the fantafag?

You haven't read Boy's Club?

So you've only read the four comics you posted?

>Prison Pit

I love Prison Pit because it's a special kind of edgy. It feels like the product of that kid who scratches a swastika into their desk at school because they're bored

They publish a lot of good comics and a lot of bad comics but overall my impression of them is negative because they're run by assholes.

They were once one of the best publishers of comics in the world but they've settled into some serious status-quo bullshit in the past 15 years, and they're proud of it.

There was literally a Facebook post (or Twitter or something) showing them throwing unread submissions into a dumpster.

They also had the audacity to run a fucking kickstarter campaign even though they're rolling in money.

That's basically Johnny Ryan in a nutshell, Angry Youth Comix is mixed imo and I definitely prefer PP over it. Crazy to think he works on a Nick show now.

You've never read their pornography?

>they're run by assholes.
Kim Thompson is cool, Gary Groth is a snobbish asshole.

Kim Thompson is dead.

Every comics studio is run by assholes, the guy who heads Image is a massive prick.

They publish a lot of shit I like and a lot of shit I don't like. Jason, Hanselmann, Seth, Clowes, Burns, Mome and most of the rest of it can burn, for all I care.

Stepehnson just has an ego. From everything I've heard he's really good to the people he publishes, but loves to shit talk the competition.

But yeah publishers have generally always been assholes

The Kickstarter was when Kim Thompson died and all their finances were thrown into disarray because they had to delay his projects or scramble to hire new people to finish them.

Make room in your cold heart for a little sympathy.

Would you prefer a publisher that only deals in TV pilots?

I don't think Fanta is the best publisher on the planet but they're better than almost everyone Sup Forums talks about.

Btw, Breakdown Press is the best publisher on the planet.

>They also had the audacity to run a fucking kickstarter campaign even though they're rolling in money.
They're still a pretty small publishing company.

The thing about a kickstarter campaign is that you don't have to donate. Did Kim Thompson's ghost steal your wallet?

Found the Fantafag

Is this actually a stealth pro-Fantagraphics thread? All you're really doing is making the anti-Fantagraphics camp look petty and childish.

You'll never know

They're reprinting Carl Barks and Don Rosa, so they're all right in my book.

>Implying it wasn't trash.

The only reason why people like it was because of silly faces that turned into a may may.

>Implying Prison Pit isn’t great shit

It's okay but kind of overrated. But it's the only really good Johnny Ryan comic.

What are the target demographics for Fantagraphics?

Who am I forgetting?

Nah, you hit the nail on the head.

Chris ware continues to be excellent and so does megg mogg and owl

Ed Piskor's Hip Hop Family Tree is great. Looking at his twitter and tumbler he comes across as a guy who is super passionate about his own work and comics in general

The mini comic he did entirely in a Liefeld imitation style is one of my favorites

All those people sound pretty cool. Dunno what your problem is.

What is ouiaboux?

Honh honh honh.

Frenchie fuckers.

I know this adds nothing to the conversation but this is the only Fantagraphics book I own and it's unfortunately out of print now so here's a link thanks to phillywilly.

Is War of the Trenches good? I've seen it on display at my lcs.

What does the word mean though/where does it come from? Google and Google translate tell me nothing.

I'm guessing it's the Euro version of weeb.
