Why does she appear pale-skinned only when she's in costume? Is it makeup?

It's privilege

It's Bruce's semen

I hated this redesign.

That's not merely pale. It's blue.

Selina looks like Bruce.

Does anybody not? It was baffling.

I know that for the redesign Bruce Timm said they wanted something which looked closer to the Batman Returns Catwoman outfit, but I have no clue why they decided to make her face white.

Because in Returns she looks pale.

And in promotional materials they make her skin look snow white.

I actually really like the Burton Catsuit but I didn't like this redesign.

I don't. In fact I love the design.

Really? What about it do you like?

It's a very...bland design. Just a straight black blob

Black is slimming.

Yeah, but they still could have kept her curves.

The pale skin, the dark and almost blackish red lips, the white eyes, and the black costume. There is one problem I have with the design though and it's that she was slimmed down perhaps a bit too much.

I think it was the overall change in the art direction that's to blame. If they had kept her earlier body shape but just gave her the black outfit I think it would have looked much better.

She was a slinky sexy curvy breathy hard boiled fiction style femme fatale. Then she's the same character and VA but suddenly she's a thin wiry spunky short haired early 90's style empowered woman. Plus her dynamic with Batman from TAS goes completely out the window so they can focus on their Barbara / Bruce ship.

Catwoman got killed by the redesign I guess is what I'm saying.

Bruce has visibly lost a lot of his optimism during the timeskip from BTAS to TNBA. He probably just straight up gave up on Catwoman, which I think is interesting plot-wise.

They probably couldn't do much with her either because there was a mandate for EVERY episode to give Tim Drake focus, which doesn't leave a crazy amount of room for femme fatales.

The short-haired redesign is giving a nod to the Cooke/Brubaker Catwoman comic too, which I can always appreciate.

All I'm saying is I think there were a lot of factors at play here

>He probably just straight up gave up on Catwoman, which I think is interesting plot-wise.

It would be if it was ever dealt with. There's no plot to speak of, their chemistry and previous relationship is just ignored.

I like Cooke Catwoman too but it's a complete different character than what they did in TAS

Maybe not TNBA, but TNBA era.

>Change Penguin to classic finger version to avoid movie design
>Change Catwoman to movie design
What were they thinking with those redesigns?

I hate this design because they replaced Selina's more emotive, human eyes from the 1st seasons with these big, exaggerated white eyes.

That was cute. Also those blondes at the beginning.

...

Why did everything happen

joker is about to play a card down.

Like so?

It's a Chesire cat reference.

Can you name any redesign from BTAS that didn't suck?

I can't.

I lost interest in the show when the reimagining of everything happened as I thought it made everything simple and ugly.

Scarecrow and Penguin were great.

The Cooke redesign came AFTER TNBA. BTAS Catwoman really wasn't the same character she is in the comics today, she had pretty much zero redeeming qualities as a person and was not trustworthy in any capacity, not to mention she was incredibly incompetent. There was no reason for Bruce to ever believe in her or trust her in the first place, she betrayed him all the time

Like, in TNBA she talks about how she's changed, but the first thing she does is manipulate Nightwing by seducing him and pitting him against Batman to try and steal some emerald.

I agree. I also want to clarify that I don't just like the black costume just because its black. I like it because it basically compliments the other things I listed in my post .

I also realized there is another problem I have with the costume, which is that it is so dark and black that it can look like undetailed like in pic related at times. There should have been some highlighting or something to rectify that issue.

The plan originally was for her to have a black costume and pale skin like the Burton version and the later TNBA redesign. But it didn't work well with the dark backgrounds of the show which led to the gray and black costume.

Dammit I always feel sad at the end of that short.
