They weren't so mean-spirited.

More goths

Didn't rely on random bullshit

Poor bait.

I give it a 1/10.

Visual humor over """""""""""""""""jokes""""""""""""""""""

They weren't written for adhd morons with a 5 second attention span
/thread

Defend them from what?
Some teenager claiming that nothing made before he was born has value? Go ask Osamu Tezuka about Carl Barks. Go ask Leopold Stokowski if cartoons are a respectable visual medium. Go ask Theodore Geisel's art teacher about the artistic merit of his character designs. I have no time to argue with you.

Don't shitpost, friend :3

Thank you for confirming everything since 1997 is not 90's, but Sup Forums probably will negate that, they still believe shows like Spongebob or Ed,Edd'n Eddy are from the 90's just because they were broadcasted for the first time in 1999.

>what is Tom & Jerry

>actual autism

of all the things you could have said, you chose one of the only wrong answers

Gargoyles was pre-1997, and it still holds up today.

>Cartoons that were gateways into high brow material.
>Cartoons that weren't so monitored and measured by assumed public approval.
>Cartoons that steadily produced at very least, a decent quality of artwork and story telling.

it's the truth, the 90's ended in 1997, like the 2000's ended in 2008., that's really not the same ambiance, but well i forgot you probably shit on your diaper during this time.

they are cartoons

Tom & Jerry, the Looney Toons, and even some Disney cartoons understood slapstick humor. I haven't seen any modern cartoon understand how to do slapstick right.

Golden age/ people believed in hard work back then/ Animation was taken serious

Much higher production values.

I shit on your mom's face last night

That is 100% false, this is why.

Let our friends from Kamen Rider General on /m/ educate you friend :^)

there are so many things wrong with this post on so many levels it's not even funny.

instead of being triggered like a 12 years old prepubescent, try to explains why i'm not right, because this is just a fact, most of these loved shows evolved more on the 2000's and fit better on a 2000's context than 90's, and it's true, 90's culture was dead somewhere on 1997 and 1998.

>my autism is more important than objective fact
>reality bends to my mental dysfunction

ur just a nostalgia hipster :)

When Looney Tunes used a celebrity, it was never mean-spirited or too predictable.

.....'Cept Hitler.

Defend from what? Your shit taste?

The only reason people should be supplying is their actual love of animation, anything else is purely subjective considering there has been shit and gold made during every period of animation.

If you really wanted to you could argue that the older stuff gave the new stuff a place to exist, so there's that. Without the past, there's be no future.

Without Tom & Jerry, Joe and Bill wouldn't delved into tv. Without Lupo The Butcher there'd be no Ed Edd n Eddy, without classic cartoons to fuel John.K's autism, there'd be no Ren & Stimpy, Without Simpsons, without Mickey Mouse, without Ralph Bakshi, blah blah I could go all day.

If it weren't for someone plagiarizing The Honeymooners, we wouldn't have The Flintstones. If someone hadn't ripped off Sergeant Bilko, there'd be no Top Cat. Huckleberry Hound, Chief Wiggum, Yogi Bear? Hah! Andy Griffith, Edward G. Robinson, Art Carney.

I can defend that Popeye would beat the shit out of every cartoon character on TV today and not give a shit about your fucking pronouns either ya Tumblr Universe tranny scumfuck

nice ad hominem kid. Here's that (you) you wanted so badly. Don't forget to return the favour with your next ad hominem.

...

>autism autism autism
you don't even know what's autism really is, because the one who act more like an autistic person here is you.

Shit, wrong link
youtu.be/kHpXle4NqWI

Did you specifically look that quote up for this occasion or did you memorize it from posting it so many times?

Either way, fuck you and fuck your family.

Look at you stupid faggots falling for the most obvious shit fuck bait in the world. You're all garbage.

>Trying to start a board war through /krg/'s shitposting
I want Gorgom to leave

...

it's Sup Forums, where mods ban fun at the drop of a hat and giggle when we have threads like this.

>the most obvious shit fuck bait
this is modern Sup Forums though, pretty much uncontested when it comes to bad taste

Think about it, people here actually think SU is good because the bar has been set so low. How am I supposed to know OP isn't just indestructibly gay on a scale in which people have yet to be subjected to?

I didn't read your gay words go fuck yourself.

2016 is the year of great Uncuckenings, I think Sup Forums could do it too if you push hard enough to take back the board from tumblr and other leftist trash

Would it HONESTLY surprise you if some Adventure Time / Rick and Morty / Steven Universe snotnose actually made the OP entirely genuinely and actually felt that way?

Looked it up.

suck it

YA BIG GAY BABY

Animation has never been taken very seriously in the US.

I think Hiro will do something that'll eitther destory or automatically fix Sup Forums, whether it be a board split, a shift in moderation or introducing/ removing a rule.

Man you niggas need to get out more

it's not real life

it's not real life

Moot never cared about Sup Forums, why would Hiro?

that's a pipedream

Are you retarded?

Are you new?

literally nothing here is real life
so what am I doing with mine? :(

why not? he's trying to get traffic to boards like /po/, /3/ and /i/. He even posted here.

Really? What did he say?

That's not much man.

Classical music, duh. Old cartoons had a fuckton of classical music and classical music makes you smarter. That is SCIENCE.

He also made /his/ and /news/, boards moot said he would never allow due to fear of Sup Forums shitposting. Hiro's more active than moot. Maybe he won't change Sup Forums, but there's a higher chance with him doing something than with moot if enough people complain.

This

>13 million people tuned in to see the 1st episode of Simpsons
>Hanna Barbera was able to saturate television with palette swapped versions of shows they already made and got away it with because kids love sitting in front of the television.
>Mickey Mouse is a household brand despite not being relevant in who knows how long. This proves that animation could be successful if handled like a business.
>3D CGI was so captivating to Disney that they allowed Pixar to make a feature film. Somehow they managed to get it done despite rigorous tests and money/time thrown down a hole.
>there is a college dedicated to teaching the art of animation
>People have tried several times to copy the success of Spongebob and failed miserably but they were given the leeway to try.
>Zootopia brought in a revenue of 1 billion and climbing
>The need for television animation was so high that we needed to outsource the workload to countries our forefathers previously blew the fuck out.
>Animation has never been taken very seriously in the US.
Animation is as American as apple pie or should I say as important as money. It's like blood or oil over here.

You are not bright.

>Man you niggas need to get out more
>it's not real life
Who are you trying to shut down with this unrelated shit? You get out more. The string of replies is referring to if OP's posts actually feel that way or if he's baiting. Either way it worked.

The latest cartoons (like Adventure Time) have low-rent animation but are pretty clever.

The 90s were from 91 to 2000.

swing and a miss
It's directed at the dude's thinking that Sup Forums belongs to them and should be made into their perfect image, especially that second user
>NO U
Negro, please. Just please.

>this thread

Bait threads used to be deleted

but that was a long time ago

quit crying

only when you realized you completely missed the point

in which case, good to hear

anyone know which episode the simpsons screencap is from?

>dudes that think Sup Forums should be made into their perfect image
>I missed the point
That's projecting. You had no point, you came in and told a few fellow dinosaur oldfags that they needed to go outside. You're not some martyr of free will or source of insight

people will have their opinions and they will disagree politely or vehemently. Get the fuck over it

>Gorgom

'Fland Canyon', Season 27, episode 19.

I need to help you along don't I? You came in saying it referred to OP's posts, I said it was just incessant shitposting about the same shit that people always do.

>told a few fellow dinosaur oldfags that they needed to go outside.
Woah woah man, take it back a bit, the fact you assume this is the 100$ truth is highly dubious
who assumes that a poster is an oldfag like that, unless you were one of those 2 posters, in which case, do tell

and I'm fine with that, but it's silly to see you getting so ruffled even though I was just saying these dudes need to get over their pipedreams

>'Fland Canyon', Season 27, episode 19
cheers mate

HUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

just walk away

Is there actually anything wrong with going outside?

L-Leopold?!

YOU FOOL

DON'T YOU KNOW THAT YOU'RE AUTOMATICALLY A NEWFAG IF YOU LEAVE Sup Forums FOR EVEN ONE MINUTE

DUMBSHIT

>Is there actually anything wrong with going outside?
Yes actually. There are some really pointy rocks out there, broken shards of glass even. There's this crazy homeless guy that walks like Simon Belmont and whenever I see him I check my bank accounts, lemme tell you..

also my point was: stop taking this board so seriously to the point you want to mold it into your own image

I hope that clears everything up , you envious lime.

Animation in the US has been almost entirely for children, and not in a very mature way. Adult animation has been mostly sitcoms. This is not taking animation seriously.

>stop taking this board so seriously to the point you want to mold it into your own image
there you go projecting again

you are adorable

but yeah negro
when I see people always whining about the boogeymen and calling for a mass culling of certain parts of Sup Forums, it just gets boring after seeing the same stuff over and over

so sorry for being a downpour but I'll always object to a dude asking for Sup Forums to be Sup Forums 2.0 and whatnot

here have this

One of the best cartoons ever.

>You're not some martyr of free will or source of insight
Yes I am.

Why 1997?

Cartoons from the 1900s through 1910s were very primitive.
1910s-1920s were building up to the golden age
1920s-1950s rise, peak, and wane of the golden age - the best cartoons from this period have unrivalled mastery in both technical skill and creative output
1960s to 1970s - practically lost decades with very few exceptions
1980s - toy commercials, beginning of the renaissance
1990s - rise, peak, and wane of the renaissance
2000s - transition
2010s - normalization. Quality and style of the cartoon no longer depends on the decade, we have cartoons in many styles and normally-distributed quality (approximately)

You can't lump "pre-1997" all in the same catefory. You can't even lump "1990s" or "1980s" in the same category.

>Why 1997
Because that's when OP was born, he's a fucking child

>Cartoon has income from movie sales
>Made with quality

>Cable and merchandising take in at least as much
>"We have to be cost effective. You understand."

I did enjoy the first 3 seasons myself.

Movies and shows are very different. Six episodes are already the length of a two hour movie, and most American animation movies are less than that. And the episodes have a weekly schedule.

Back in the 30s and 40s cartoons were made to entertain and express a revolutionary art form. Nowadays cartoons are just dime-a-dozen shitfests designed to pump out low-quality garbage to save money and still get high ratings for their networks.

For all intents and purposes, traditional 2D animation is dead, especially here in North America.

But they're so progressive now and not boring shallow slapstick garbage that dodged important issues like my pronouns.

Japan outputs more 2D animation than anyone has time to watch.

Quality of animation should NOT have to be sacrificed to make progressive leaps and bounds.
