She was created and raised to be a loyal Gempire subject, and had no reason to befriend the Crystal Gems.
She managed to contact her beloved ruler, whom she worshipped as a goddess, in spite of the Crystal Gems' best efforts, and with even Steven not believing in her. But confronted with the fact her leader had feet of clay, she didn't cave. She held her integrity even when she had no allies at all. She told her off on her own terms. Her own terms! IE, she did pretty much what Rose Quartz herself did.

All of this. Although while she's my favorite I think they should be careful using her as a tool for cheap jokes. But episodes like Barn Mates made me believe she will be treated right and they will balance her more comedic side. Seriously when Lapis broke her recorder I was expecting they would throw in one of her classic temper tantrums for cheap laughs but instead she had a very mature response. This moment showed the results of her character development.

Honestly one of the best redemption arcs I've seen in a cartoon. It didn't feel rushed and you can clearly see where she begins to develop a relationship or respect for each character and why. It did a good job of not rushing it and showing her slowly opening up more to Steven's kindness while also still appearing untrustworthy. I'm glad they made her betray the gems immediately before she ended up betraying Yellow Diamond. And it was fun seeing the aftermath when her hysteria turns to pride.

Even waifufagging aside, all the other crystal gems have REALLY dropped the ball with their characters, at least for me. Maybe it's just cause she's actually growing a lot in the short time we've known her, but the other gems just got more annoying over time. Like, I understand that showing their flaws is good, and we've also had scenes showing their good sides, but they really come off as incompetent, and I feel like Peridot has been one of the few characters to point that out.

I don't know what that user is talking about, she's cool and all, and she probably believes more in Steven learning on his own than trying to coddle him like Pearl does, but she still doesn't know what she's doing, just like all of them don't know what they're doing.
Garnet is the "Cool Mom" that has faith in her kid and gives them room to breath, but ultimately doesn't really know how to connect with them, Pearl is the "Overbearing mom" that keeps their child close, often way too close, and, sure, the child is taken cared of and nurtured, he misses out on a lot and ultimately suffers from a lack of allowance to grow. Just to complete the trio, Amethyst is more like the "older big sister" who's snrky and cool, but really has no idea what she's doing with her life and is self-concious about everything.
They're all alright moms in different ways, but they're also all flawed.
