Crossed comics

What does Sup Forums think of Crossed? Has anyone red the entire series?
I think it's a nice step away from the average "zombie" phenomenon we usually see connected with a viral epidemic, while actually making the infected more terrifying

Edgelord shit.

Looks bad man

This

It's gore porn with more rape than usual.
That's your lot.

Sup Forums hates it because of the violence. Any kind of blood or gore triggers us something fierce. I think it's alright.

It's pretty fun to read

I'm a ravenous gorehound and I still hate Crossed. It's childish, but not in a fun way. Just stupid really. Like an Eli Roth film.

>It's childish, but not in a fun way.

this
It is tryhard edgelord garbage

I don't think so. It's not for the faint of heart, but there's alot of story behind the comics. The writers, especially Garth Ennis who wrote the first volume is very focused on not making it TOO gory, to the point where it's excessive. He stated that he wanted to point out the inhumanity of the infected, and perhaps shock readers, but not make the comic nothing but gore porn

If it's not Moore or Spurrier it's not worth reading.

I get what they're going for, but nobody other than Moore succeeds at it. Zombies doing really horrific things has been done well in stuff like Helldriver, Hater, BrainDead, etc. and Crossed just doesn't live up to its contemporaries.

Is... is that a black frank? A Blank? A Frack?

I read The Boys and was significantly impressed with it despite hearing that it was edgelord shit, but I can't get over the initial assumption that Crossed really IS edgelord shit.

That said, I'm not comfortable discounting an entire series because I thought the first issue was stupid (IIRC first issue involves a guy trying to use salt rings to stop the crossed), so what exactly is compelling about Crossed?

Again, I think Ennis is actually a pretty good writer, The Boys displayed a level of complexity beyond LOLCAPESRNAIVE.

you are the stupid one, first issue is a good fucking story. before crossed became a meme you would have read this comic and believed in the salt rings and expected that neckbeard nobody to be able to outsmart the crossed like in most zombie stories, but turning the page to see a kid being torn in half was genuinely shocking

Why didn't they just gas the crossed?

FPBP

>The Crossed are people who - through infection - have given in to the absolute worst instincts that human beings can: murder, rape, torture, cannibalism, all of the most cruel and inventive kind imaginable.
Those aren't instincts, dumbies.

It's a comic so extreme that Alan Moore was disturbed by it. In it's own way it's the modern equivalent of what Tales From the Crypt was back in the 50's.

I personally don't like it, but I do see that there is a point to it all.

It's pretty fucking shit tbqhfamalam.

It's entirely based on 'I'm edgier than you aren't you shocked?!' It's not even written well, it's just garbage. I remember someone here tried to say it was good and it wasn't just generic 13 year old edgelord shit, and then linked an issue. On the second page was a guy fucking a dolphin's blowhole while stabbing the dolphin for no relevant reason at all.

how could they organize it? all the major cities got fucked before they even knew what was going on

>On the second page was a guy fucking a dolphin's blowhole while stabbing the dolphin for no relevant reason at all.
you are a fucking idiot, that page is supposed to be ridiculous. it's meant to highlight how seeing a zombie fuck a dolphin has become a daily occurrence in crossed world and people are desensitized to it

>edglelord

Insults aside, the subversion of nerd expectations did not come off like the take-down of long-standing assumed tropes.

The fat nerd was clearly a loser archetype, and it's hardly controversial or subversive to show these characters as losers. It reduces what should be a plot movement down to a probability game: either the salt rings work or they won't. That sort of mechanical plot movement sidelines whatever character development there is in favor of guessing what will most likely happen. In this case all that rang up to was a nerd being an idiot.

That's why I found the first issue's final plot twist non-compelling, that and the crossed themselves were engaging in the sort of debauchery which was commonplace in the sort of stories like Berserk.

So I don't think that Crossed's can rely on shock factors, and that those factors can't carry a story. If there is something compelling about Crossed, it's probably unrelated to people just getting wrecked.

>no it's meant to be a subtle thing and it's meant to be edgy but it's not edgelord shit i swear!

It's not even ridiculous or funny. It's just stupid. They already set the high bar early on and after that it becomes an undending parade of bullshit that tries to top itself but ends up being little more than a vain attempt at throwing any shit against the wall they can think of in hopes of getting something to stick.

>Ctrl+F
>Horsecock
>Zero results
Color me surprised

At least learn how to capitalize. All of your responses so far limit themselves to calling the other person stupid.

>the point is that they show really shocking stuff all the time
Yeah, because it's edgelord tripe.

This. If you want popele to take your posts seriously then take one second to look down and find your shift key. You obviously don't know where it is because if you did you'd use it because it takes almost zero effort to capitalize a word.

I think something along those lines was the plan in The Fatal Englishman.

The start of the Ennis disappointment era. Besides Red Rover Charlie his avatar work is unreadable. The only good thing about Crossed is I got introduced to David Lapham and found Stray Bullets.

This. And even discounting the poor choice of wording, if that's how the Crossed now function? There should never be such a thing as a group of Crossed.

Two Crossed, in the same room, would murderkill each other until there was only one Crossed left. repeat for any number of Crossed in a group.

You are telling me that these people cannot resit their urges to indulge in their most depraved violent nature, and NO ONE in that crowd shanks the guy standing next to him and starts a barroom blitz?

Let's be fair, he could be phone-posting. I don't know why that would be an excuse, but it kind of sounds like one.

I kind of want to give this thread a chance, because despite not liking Crossed I believe that there's something of value in there. Unlike God Is Dead by Hickman, which is so fedoracore it hurts, I think Ennis was legitimately trying in Crossed.

>retard

shut the fuck up you moron, you haven't read wish you were here. i can tell you haven't because your criticisms aren't valid, try actually reading it instead of copying opinions you read on Sup Forums.

no the point is that they see it all the time, it's not shown that often in wish you were here and its no longer supposed to be shocking like in the original crossed stories.

i know how to capitalize but i dont feel like doing it, and my responses are better than any of the stupid shit saying "i saw one panel out of context so its edgy and SHIT!!"

I haven't read it but I would imagine that operating under the premise that the crossed simply obsess over the most evil things they can think of then they are more likely to work together with other crossed to kill or infect the uninfected, because that would be more evil.

Are we all discounting that the Patient Zero arc revealed the virus to be supernatural in function?

It doesn't unleash instincts, it bombards with atrocities.

they do turn on each other but only when theres no humans around, for whatever reason they prefer a human to a crossed

>shut the fuck up you moron

Boy you sure proved me and everyone else wrong that it's nothing more than edgelord shit that throws out edgy shit for no reason other than to be edgy. Here's a shitty page from a mediocre comic that has more of an emotional impact than the entirety of crossed.

The fact that you haven't authored an actual response marks you as a troll or a retard. To be fair, you could be both.

>it's fucking magic
Dropped.
Unsubscribed.
Downvoted.

Does anyone have the caveman storyline?

>I am mad Hot Topic is closed

Not so much magic as more...Gaia Theory.
Like the Happening.

We are ignoring it because its dumb. The only pretense to maturity that Crossed can cling to is showcasing the worst inhumanity of man, but that doesn't work if its caused by what amounts to demonic possession. At that point, we might as well be watching aliens hunter-killer their way across Earth, but that wouldn't be edgy enough to be Crossed.

source on comic? looks fun

So magic.

Fucking hell, that Earth intelligence must not be very intelligent. Humanity is at worst a necessary evil and it's solution is to make every human want to nuke the planet?

Fucking hippies.

That's still there, just not as such.
With "The Thin Red Line" and even the original miniseries the virus just shifts your perception, showing how to do shit.

All Patient Zero did is add a bit of a esp angle.

Something I found real funny about Crossed is how the future folk tried to religiously rationalize the Crossed.

They basically said that just as someone doesn't intentionally drop and shatter a plate, God didn't mean to fuck the world up.

Imagine being God on that day.

>Oh... fuck. Ehhhh.....

They do when sufficiently bored (like when there are no people or even animals around) or provoked.

They otherwise uneasily tolerate each other, and there's very little fun to be had in doing horrible things to someone who will enjoy it (the Crossed aren't just sadists, but masochistic as well).

So they cooperate for the mutual business venture of producing the maximum amount of edge as possible?

Exactly.
But this usually happens under a cast system.

Like Horsecock, Smokey, and the Priest you have the "Boss Crossed".
Only superseded by the Patient Zeroes.

Yeah. They've got edgy corporations and everything. If you want to be successful as a crossed you have to build up your resume.

i find it disturbing and uncomfortable to read, so i don't

the non-ennis stories are complete garbage
the ennis ones range from good to ok

Wish You Were Here by Spurrier was the best of the bunch

+100 by Moore was interesting

Ennis was good while writing the Englishman and that first Badlands arc

Spurrier has been pretty great.
Only exception being his arcs on +100...which he's always been shaky on.

>nobody posted it

Wonder when Ennis' last Crossed mini is getting solicited.
With +100 and Badlands finishing, it's weird it hasn't been announced yet.

oh yeah i had conveniently forgotten that ennis didnt do wywh

After Badlands 1-3, American Losers is probably my favorite arc.
Spurrier knows how to work the darkly comedic inherent in the over the top nature of the series.

Literally filename

you haven't read wish you were here, fuck off.

are you illiterate? have you not read anything i have written? you haven't read wish you were here. i have. i am telling you its not edgy for the sake of being edgy like many other crossed stories, i am telling you that the edginess in it is presented as actual weird depraved shit and the characters, while desensitized, treat it as such. i know this because i have read the comic. you and the other two retards keep shouting "its edgy its edgy he fucks da dolphin!!" when you haven't fucking read the comic. shut up. stop giving your opinions on comics you haven't fucking read. you look like an idiot.

Could someone tell me the plot of each Crossed story and how it ends? I don't wanna look at all the gore and get paranoid that a crossed epidemic was going to happen soon or already started

i really liked the paneling in the englishman

somebody post the one where the chick kills a guy while he calls her a SJW

there are some midly interesting themes in some of the stories, but for the most part there is nothing to them except setting up the next outrageous gore scene

i feel like if they just trimmed the entirety of the series down and removed the useless gore, it could be a decent zombie anthology or something similar

assumed that was just from the line of the comic, kinda thought it was Judge dredd.

Actually, if I recall, that story for the most part was pretty okay, right?

The Englishman?
Yeah, it was okay but Ennis indulged in a religious rant but wasn't too bad there.

It led to the squandered potential of the Patient Zero arc though, and his rumored last arc is gonna be about them again

Whatever happened to that series they were working on?

What happened with the Patient Zero arc?

I haven't super kept up with things. And last arc is gonna be about who again?

How did Englishman end again?

Shit. I need all the spoon feeding.

*live action series

>somebody post the one where the chick kills a guy while he calls her a SJW

You asked for it.

>Ennis indulged in a religious rant

He almost always does his hate-boner for Christians is really tiresome

>What happened with the Patient Zero arc?
It was about the first days of the virus.
The Four Soldiers are holed up in a bunker with Patient Zero while the Prime Minister watches the world collapse. Very bland outside a few good scenes.

>I haven't super kept up with things. And last arc is gonna be about who again?
The four soldiers again this time in the middle of their journey to where they were in the Fatal Englishman.

>How did Englishman end again?
They decide not to fuck the world just to destroy the Crossed. The English soldier mercy kills his brothers in arms before committing suicide by crossed

Still trying to be funded.
Dead or Alive was going to be the framing device for the series anyway.

>Still trying to be funded.
>Dead or Alive was going to be the framing device for the series anyway.

I think there's a similar situation with Stitched.

>not finding a dolphin getting fucked in the blowhole funny
lame

Considering Christian Zanier drew numerous shemale-centric porn comics, this is actually rather appropriate.

Boy, you sure showed him.

Except you didn't.

That's the most shallow fucking crap in the world. "Oh no, characters are desensitized to horrible shit!" Jesus fucking christ, dude, every action movie with casual danger dialogue has done that. Every long running police procedural has done that. Every long running medical drama has done that. Every war story has done that.

I have read Wish You Were Here. It's fucking mediocre pap that only sells because it's gore porn and zombies are "in" right now. There's just no fucking *substance.* Go watch Night of the Living Dead and tell me that fucking Wish You Were Here is any good.

>Popele

Fatal Englishman's ending was shit desu senpai. I wish they followed the original plan of throwing shit at the fan

Man, Global Frequency was such a mixed bag. I really enjoyed some issues. Others were just entirely meh.

(I mean, I guess that's kind of the fucking point of the premise-- Being able to tell a wide variety of stories and all.)

That...

That's the female Pepe.

Witnessed.

>This image of a guy fucking a dolphin's blowhole while stabbing it is really remarkable in the way it establishes the scene and is powerful in its methodology to express the artist's and writer's message in this story.
>Crossed fags think like this.

You didn't respond to any of the actual comments beyond saying "the characters treat violence as desensitized" and then you failed to draw a significant conclusion from that observation. All of your comments are reactionary, responding to a blanket claim that Crossed is edgy. Even when people were being charitable, such as I was in my post (), you ignored any comment more complex than "Crossed is edgy".

So even when not confronted with that claim, your only response so far has been to repeat the following:
>You're stupid
>I've read stuff, you haven't
>Everybody's desensitized to the violence so you wouldn't it's not edgy mom!

You're clearly a troll or simply unable to come up with an actual analysis of comics.

That biofeedback issue was awesome

>sells
I know you havent read it now retard since its a free webcomic. The story isnt about people being desensitized, its about recontextualizing the crossed as a bizarre and ultimately ineffectual threat, about how the real problems in a post-crossed society are derived from the humans and, towards the second half, about the crossed becoming something more than rape zombies, building primitive societies, learning to control some of their inhibitions.

I am talking about wish you were here, which isnt edgy. Its campy and silly, dolphin fucking is meant to make you laugh not shock you. The characters reaction is more along the lines of "fucks sake not again" rather than the earlier "OH my GOD hes FUCKING a DOLPHIN". Crossed #1 is edgy, although ennis used the edge to create an effective shocking twist. I will never deny there are terrible crossed stories written by hacks, but wish you were here is not one of them and neither is crossed #1

All I can remember about crossed is that guy with his wife and daughter trying to protect himself with salt (?) and then his wife calling him stupid while being raped, it was kind of funny I guess

Oh gee nigger, I'm supposed to remember the difference between shit I read off CDisplay and shit I read off Chrome. Wooooowwww.

And here's the thing: That story has been told better. Repeatedly. By every other fucking zombie story. Even the last bit was done better by fucking Survival of the Dead, which sucked dick!

Wish You Were Here by Si Spurrier is one of the greatest comics I've ever read. He takes the Crossed Setting and uses a writer main character to deconstruct and criticize literary tropes and the minds of writers and people at large: how we all try to create little stories to fit everything to, where things make sense and can be rationalized, when in fact the best we do is be passive observers to the chaos. It is a brilliant piece of work.

It's one of those comics where I don't really give a fuck about the story, I just turn my brain off and enjoy the gore, which gets pretty inventive sometimes. It's like an Eli Roth film; stupid as fuck, but I can't help but like it.

The only thing I really hate about it is when issues try to be all "maybe WE'RE the real monsters, and not those raping murder torture dudes". I hate it with zombies, and it's even more fucking stupid with the Crossed.

>No you just don't get it, it's too DEEP for you!

Crossed are those uplifted by Jesus. Christ gives them the mark and absolves them of all sin. No sin = do as thou wilt = messed up shit.

yeah killing everyone in the uk wouldve been much more satisfying but MUH STATUS QUO

A fuck movie wifi.
